General safety guidelines Always observe the following precautions to r educe the risk of injury and property damage. Service Do not attempt to service a product yourself unless instr ucted to do so by the Customer Support Center . Use only a service provider who is appr oved to repair your particular pr oduct.
Do not bend or modify the plug. If the plug is damaged, contact the manufacturer to obtain a replacement. Some products ar e equipped with a three-pr onged plug. This plug fits only into a grounded electrical outlet. This is a safety feature. Do not defeat this safety featur e by trying to insert it into a non-grounded outlet.
CD and DVD drive safety CD and DVD drives spin discs at a high speed. If a CD or DVD is cracked or otherwise physically damaged, it is possible for the disc to break apart or even shatter when the CD drive is in use.

Chapter 1. Product Description The M500 projector can be used for both business pr esentations and home entertainment and is easy to connect, use, and maintain. Some main features of this pr ojector are: v Extremely powerful, lightweight, and portable at 1.

Note: The remote contr ol can only interface with a computer when the projector is connected to the computer through a USB cable connection. The computer cable connects a computer to the pr ojector for display purposes only . Remote control operating range The remote contr ol uses infrared transmission to contr ol the projector .
Projector and remote control buttons The projector can be operated using the r emote control or the buttons on the top of the pr ojector . All operations can be carried out with the remote contr ol; however the buttons on the projector ar e limited in use.

Chapter 2. Setup and Operation This chapter provides information on positioning the pr ojector , connecting a computer source, using the projector with Micr osoft W indows, and displaying and adjusting a computer sour ce image. Attention: Only use AAA alkaline batteries.
Connecting input devices Attention: Be sur e to disconnect all power to the projector and connecting devices befor e making connections. A PC or notebook computer as well as video devices can be connected to the projector at the same time. V ideo devices include DVD, VCD, and VHS players, as well as movie camcor ders and digital still cameras.
Starting and shutting down the projector 1. Connect the power cord to the pr ojector . Connect the other end to a wall outlet. This turns on the POWER and READY LEDs on the projector . 2. T urn on the connected devices. 3. Ensure that the Ready LED is on a steady (not flashing) orange and then pr ess the Power button to turn on the projector .
Setting access passwords (security lock) Yo u can use the cursor (arrow) buttons on the remote to set a passwor d and prevent unauthorized use of the projector .
5. Press the left or right cursor button to select Enable (gr een text is selected). A password dialog box appears. 6. Yo u can use the cursor buttons numbered 1, 2, 3, and 4 on the r emote to enter the password. Yo u can use any combination including the same number multiple times, but the password must be four characters.
7. Every time you start the projector a passwor d dialog box appears. Enter the password set in step 6. Press Menu to cancel if you enter the wr ong password. Adjusting the projected image position T ake note of the following when setting up the projector: v The projector table or stand should be level and stur dy .
Adjusting zoom, focus and keystone 1. Use the Image-zoom control (on the pr ojector only) to resize the pr ojected image and screen size A . B A 2. Use the Image-focus control (on the pr ojector only) to sharpen the projected image B . 3. Press the Keystone +/- buttons on r emote control.
Adjusting volume 1. Press the V olume +/- buttons on the remote control. The volume contr ol appears on the display . 3 2. Use the V olume +/- buttons to adjust the level.
Chapter 3. On-screen display (OSD) menu settings This section provides information on the On-scr een display (OSD) menu settings. OSD menu controls The projector has an OSD that lets you make image adjustments and change various settings. Note: Yo u must have a display on the screen in order to access the OSD.
Note: Depending on the video source not all items in the OSD ar e available. For example, the Horizontal or V ertical Position items in the Properties menu can only be modified when connected to a PC. Items that are not available ar e grayed out and cannot be accessed.
Setting the OSD language Yo u may want to refer ence the OSD on your projector while reading this section. Set the OSD language to your prefer ence before continuing. The default language is English. 1. Press the menu button to open the OSD menu. 2. Press the left or right cursor button until Language is highlighted.

Item Description Default User color This feature adjusts the color balance in each color (r ed, green, blue, cyan, magenta, yellow and white by using color correction adjustment. Incr easing a color’s setting heightens the intensity of that color on the screen, while a lower setting makes the color less intense.

Appendix A. Maintenance This chapter provides information on pr ojector maintenance. Replacing the projection lamp The projection lamp should be r eplaced when it burns out. It should only be replaced with a certified replacement part, which you can or der from your local dealer .
6. Reverse steps 1 to 5 to install the new lamp module. Resetting the lamp After replacing the lamp, you should r eset the lamp hour counter to zero. Refer to the following: 1. Press the Menu button to open the Main menu. 2. Press the left or right cursor button to move to the Information menu.
4. Press the up or down cursor button or the Enter button. A message scr een appears. 5. Using the remote, pr ess the cursor buttons in this order: down, up, left, right. The Status menu displays the Lamp Hours reset to zer o. Cleaning the projector Cleaning the projector to r emove dust and grime will help ensure tr ouble-free operation.
Using the Kensington lock If you are concerned about security , attach the projector to a permanent object with the Kensington slot and a security cable.
Appendix B. T roubleshooting The following table provides tr oubleshooting information for the projector . In some cases, more than one possible solution is provided. Tr y the solutions in the order they are pr esented. When the problem is solved, you can skip the additional solutions.
