G-1 Caution–– STANDBY/ON button! Disconnect the mains plug to shut the power off completely (the standby lamp goes off). When installing the apparatus, ensure that the plug is easily accessible. The STANDBY/ON button in any position does not disconnect the mains line.

4 Putting batteries in the remote control Before using the remote control, put tw o supplied batter ies first. 1 Press and slide the battery cover on the bac k of the remote control. 2 Insert batteries. Make sure to match the polarity: (+) to (+) and (–) to (–).

10 USB connection This receiver is equipped with a USB terminal on the front panel. Y ou can connect your PC to this terminal and enjoy sound reproduced through your PC . When you connect y our PC for the first time, f ollow the procedure below . • Remember you cannot send an y signal or data to your PC from this receiv er.
11 5. The USB drivers are installed automaticall y . • If the USB drivers are not installed automatically , install the USB drivers by f ollowing the instructions on the PC’ s monitor . 6. Check if the driver s are correctly installed. 1. Open the Control Panel on y our PC: Select [Star t] = [Control Panel].
12 Basic operations 2 Select the source to play On the front panel: T urn SOURCE SELECT OR until the sour ce name you want appear s on the display . The source lamp corresponding to the selected source lights in red. • As you turn SOURCE SELECT OR, the source changes as follo ws: D VR/D VD* 1 : Select this f or the D VD recorder or D VD play er.
13 DIGIT AL A UTO: Select for the digital input mode . The receiver automatically detects the incoming signal f or mat, then the digital signal format indicator (LINEAR PCM, , , or 96/24) for the detected signal lights up . DOLBY DIGIT AL* 2 : Select to play bac k software encoded with Dolby Digital.
14 Basic adjustment of auto memory This receiver memoriz es sound settings for each source: • when you turn off the pow er, and • when you change the source . When you change the source , the memor ized settings f or the newly selected source are automatically recalled.
15 L S.WFR R ANALOG L S.WFR R ANALOG T o obtain the best possib le sound effect from Surround/DSP modes (see pages 27 to 31), you need to set up the speak er and subwoof er information after all the connections are completed. F rom pages 15 to 20, how to set speakers and other basic items of the receiver are e xplained.
16 Speakers (channels) number and the size Y ou can find how each of the speaker siz e is defined according to the number of connected speakers (speak er channel “ch” number) you select. • Subwoof er is counted as 0.1 channel. The size of connected speakers CH L/R C LS/RS SB SUBWFR 2.
17 Operating procedure On the front panel ONL Y: Before y ou star t, remember ... There is a time limit in doing the f ollowing steps. If the setting is canceled before y ou finish, star t from step 1 again. Ex.: When setting DIGIT AL IN 1 terminal. 1 Press SETTING.

19 Selecting the main or sub channel —DUAL MONO Y ou can select the playbac k sound (channel) you want while playing digital softw are recorded (or broadcasted) in Dual Mono mode (see page 28), which includes two monaural channels separately . When the receiv er detects Dual Mono signals, the DU AL MONO indicator lights up on the display .
20 NO TES • Y ou cannot assign the same component for diff erent terminals. The priority order for assignment is as f ollows: “DIGIT AL IN 1” > “DIGIT AL IN 2” > “DIGIT AL IN 3. ” Ex.: When “DIGIT AL IN 1” is set to “D VR/D VD .
21 Sound adjustments Y ou can make sound adjustment to y our preference after completing basic setting. Basic adjustment items Y ou can adjust the follo wing items. See pages in parentheses for details. • Y ou cannot select the items which are not av ailable with the current setting.
22 Adjusting the equalization patterns— D EQ 63Hz/250Hz/1kHz/4kHz/16kHz Y ou can adjust equalization patterns in five frequency bands (center frequency: 63 Hz, 250 Hz, 1 kHz, 4 kHz, 16 kHz) for the front speakers . • Once you ha ve made an adjustment, it is memorized f or each source.
23 Adjusting the bass sounds Reinforcing the bass—BASS BOOST Y ou can boost the bass lev el—Bass Boost. • Once you ha ve made an adjustment, it is memorized f or each source. • Y ou cannot use the remote control for this setting. B BOOST < ON > Select to boost the bass le vel.
24 Adjusting the center channel localization for Pro Logic IIx Music and Pro Logic II Music—CENTER WIDTH This setting is av ailable when Pro Logic IIx Music or Pro Logic II Music is activated f or the analog or digital 2-channel sound signal. 25 T uner operations T uning in to stations manually From the remote control ONL Y : 1 Press FM/AM to select the band. The last received station of the selected band is tuned in. • Each time you press the b utton, the band alter nates between “FM” and “AM.
26 3 Press the numeric b uttons (1 – 10, +10) to select a channel number while the c hannel number position is flashing. • F or channel number 5, press 5. • F or channel number 15, press +10, then 5. • F or channel number 30, press +10, +10, then 10.
27 Creating realistic sound fields Reproducing theater ambience In a movie theater , many speak ers are located on the walls to reproduce impressive m ulti-channel sound, reaching you from all directions. With these many speak ers, sound localization and sound mov ement can be expressed.
28 DTS Neo:6 DTS Neo:6 is another conv ersion method to create 6-channel (plus subwoof er) from analog/digital 2-channel software by using the high precision digital matrix decoder used for DTS-ES Matrix 6.1ch. • This receiv er provides the following DTS Neo:6 modes— Neo:6 Cinema (NEO:6 CINEMA) and Neo:6 Music (NEO:6 MUSIC).
29 Introducing the DSP modes The sound heard in a concer t hall, club , etc. consists of direct sound and indirect sound—early reflections and reflections from behind. Direct sounds reach the listener directly without any reflection. On the other hand, indirect sounds are dela yed by the distances of the ceiling and walls.
30 Using the Surround/DSP modes A vailable Surround/DSP modes v ar y depending on the speaker settings and the incoming signals . See the table below . • The numbers inside the parentheses f ollowing the incoming signal type indicate the number of the front channels and that of the surround channels.

33 Connecting procedure 1 If you ha ve already plugged y our VCR, DVD play er , TV , or this receiver into the A C outlets, unplug their A C power cor ds first. 2 Connect your VCR, DVD pla yer , TV , and this receiver as follo ws, using the cables with the monaural mini-plugs (not supplied).
34 Y ou can use the supplied remote control to operate not onl y this receiver but also other JVC pr oducts. • Ref er also to the manuals supplied with the other products. – Some JVC VCRs can accept tw o types of control signals— remote codes “A” and “B.

39 T r oubleshooting PROBLEM The pow er does not come on. The receiver turns off (enters standby mode). “O VER HEA T” flashes on the display , then the receiver turns off . No sound from speakers . Sound from one speaker only . Sounds are intermittently distor ted by the outside noise such as a lightning discharge.
