6 English Getting Started Supplied Accessories Make sure that y ou have all the follo wing items. The number in the parentheses indicates the quantity of the pieces supplied. • AM loop antenna (1) • FM antenna (1) • Remote control (1) • Batteries (2) • A C plug adaptor (1) If anything is missing, consult your dealer immediately .
7 English 1 If cords are co ver ed with insulation, twist the core of the cor d at the end of each cord, then r emove the insulation. 2 Connect the AM loop antenna to the AM LOOP terminals as illustrated. 3 T urn the AM loop antenna until you ha ve the best r eception.
8 English Connecting Other Equipment Y ou can connect audio equipment—used only as a playback device . • DO NOT connect any equipment while the power is on.
9 English Common Operations T urning On or Off the Power T o turn on the unit, press (or ST ANDBY/ON on the remote control) so that the lamp on the b utton goes off. T o turn off the unit (on standby), press (or ST ANDBY/ON on the remote control) again so that the lamp on the b utton lights up.
10 English Continued F ADE MUTING V O L U M E VOLUME Adjusting the V olume Y ou can adjust the volume le vel only while the unit is turned on. The v olume le vel can be adjusted in 32 steps (V OLUME MIN, V OLUME 1 – V OLUME 30, and V OLUME MAX). T urn V OLUME + / – clockwise (+) to increase the v olume or counterclockwise (–) to decr ease it.
11 English The sound modes change as follo ws: When using the remote control, the sound mode changes only clockwise in the abov e sequence. Surround modes* D ANCE : Increases resonance and bass. HALL : Adds depth and brilliance to the sound. ST ADIUM : Adds clarity and spreads the sound, lik e in an outdoor stadium.
12 English Creating Y our Own Sound Mode — User Mode Y ou can change SEA (Sound Ef fect Amplifier) pattern to suit your preference. The SEA (Sound Ef fect Amplifier) pattern can be adjusted into 5 frequency ranges—LO W1, LOW2, MID, HIGH1, and HIGH2.
13 English Listening to FM and AM Broadcasts T uning in to a Station 1 Pr ess FM/AM. The unit automatically turns on and tunes in to the pre viously receiv ed station (either FM or AM). • Each time you press the button, the band alternates between FM and AM.
14 English Playing Back Discs Loading Discs On the unit ONL Y : 1 Press 0 f or the disc tray (CD1, CD2, or CD3) you want to load a disc onto. The unit automatically turns on and the disc tray comes out. 2 Place a disc correctl y on the circle of the disc tray , with its label side up.
15 English • Pressing CD 3¥8 instead of the disc number buttons starts playing back the currently selected disc. • If no disc is placed on the selected disc tray , “NO DISC 1, ” “NO DISC 2, ” or “NO DISC 3” appears on the display . Then, the unit continue searching for a disc from the next disc tray .
16 English 4 Select a track fr om the selected disc in step 3 . On the unit: Tu r n 4 / ¢ to select the track number , then press SET/DISPLA Y . On the remote contr ol: Press the number b uttons. • For ho w to use the number buttons, see “T o go to another track directly using the number buttons” on pa ge 15.
17 English Playing at Random—Random Play The tracks of the currently selected disc will be played at random. • T o use Repeat Play (see page 18) for Random Play , press REPEA T after starting Random Play . Only REPEA T 1 and REPEA T ALL can be selected for Random Play .
18 English Prohibiting Disc Ejection—T ray Lock Y ou can prohibit disc ejection from the unit and lock discs. • This operation is possible only when the source is the CD player . On the unit ONL Y : T o prohibit disc ejection, press 0 for any disc tray while holding down 7 .
19 English Y ou can play back type I tapes without changing an y settings. Playing Back a T ape 1 Pr ess 0 EJECT for the cassette deck. 2 Insert a cassette with the exposed part of the tape down. 3 Close the cassette holder gently . 4 Pr ess T APE 2 3 .
20 English Recording Recording on a T ape 1 Press 0 EJECT and insert a r ecordable cassette with the exposed part of the tape down. 2 Close the cassette holder gently . • If you want to record on both sides of a tape, see “T o record on both sides—Rev erse Mode.
21 English Synchronized Recording By using the Synchronized Recording method, ev erything on the disc goes onto the tape in the same order as it is on the disc, or according to the order you ha ve set in Program Play . Y ou can start or stop both disc play and tape recording at the same time.
22 English Using the T imers There are three timers a vailable—D AIL Y (Dail y T imer), REC (Recording T imer), and SLEEP (Sleep T imer). Y ou can set the timers whether the unit is on or of f; howe ver , if Ecology Mode is acti v ated, you cannot set the timers while the unit is of f.
23 English 4 Set the off-time y ou want the unit to turn of f (on standby) at. 1) Tu r n 4 / ¢ to set the hour , then press SET/DISPLA Y . 2) Tu r n 4 / ¢ to set the minute, then press SET/DISPLA Y . “SET” appears for about 1 second, then the unit enters source selecting mode.

26 English Maintenance T o get the best performance of the unit, keep your discs, tapes, and mechanism c lean. Handling cassette tapes • If the tape is loose in its cassette, take up the slack by inserting a pencil in one of the reels and rotating. • If the tape is loose, it may get stretched, cut, or caught in the cassette.
