GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 7 Alwa ys use common sense It is not possible to co ver e very conceivable situation y ou can face when using a chain sa w. Alwa ys ex ercise care and use your common sense . A void all situations which you consider to be bey ond your capability .
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 8 – English • The chain brake (A) can either be activ ated manually (by y our left hand) or automatically by the inertia release mechanism.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 9 of the front hand guard, the chain brake can only be activated b y the iner tia action. Will m y hand always activ ate the chain brake during a kickbac k? No . It takes a certain force to mov e the hand guard forw ard.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 10 – English Vibration damping system Y our machine is equipped with a vibration damping system that is designed to reduce vibration and make operation easier . The machine ′ s vibration damping system reduces the transf er of vibration between the engine unit/cutting equipment and the machine ′ s handle unit.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 11 • Keep the chain’ s cutting teeth properly sharpened! Follow our instructions and use the recommended file gauge. A damaged or badly sharpened chain increases the r isk of accidents. • Maintain the correct depth gauge setting! Follow our instructions and use the recommended depth gauge clearance.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 12 – English • Chain oil hole and hole for chain tensioner . The bar must be matched to the chain saw design. Chain • Chain pitch (inches) • Drive link width (mm/inches) • Number of drive links.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 13 • Check that the chain is correctly tensioned. A slack chain will mov e sidewa ys, making it more difficult to sharpen correctly . • Alwa ys file cutting teeth from the inside face . Reduce the pressure on the return stroke.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 14 – English • Raise the tip of the bar and stretch the chain by tightening the chain tensioning screw using the combination spanner . Tighten the chain until it does not sag from the underside of the bar . • Use the combination spanner to tighten the bar nuts while lifting the tip of the bar at the same time.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 15 Never use waste oil! Using w aste oil can be dangerous to you and damage the machine and en vironment. Filling with chain oil • All our chain saws ha ve an automatic chain lubrication system. On some models the oil flow is also adjustable.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 16 – English Needle bearing lubrication Both versions of sproc kets hav e a needle bear ing on the drive shaft, which has to be greased regularly (once a week). CAUTION! Use only high quality bearing grease or engine oil.
ASSEMBL Y English – 17 Fitting the bar and chain CS 2245 Check that the chain brak e is in disengaged position by moving the front hand guard tow ards the front handle. Unscrew the bar nut and remo ve the clutch cov er (chain brake). T ake off the transportation r ing (A).
ASSEMBL Y 18 – English Fit the bar ov er the bar bolts. Place the bar in its rear most position. Place the chain over the drive sproc ket locate it in the groov e on the bar . Begin on the top edge of the bar. Make sure that the edges of the cutting links are f acing forw ard on the top edge of the bar .
FUEL HANDLING English – 19 Fuel Note! The machine is equipped with a two-stroke engine and must alwa ys be r un using a mixture of gasoline and two-stroke oil. It is impor tant to accurately measure the amount of oil to be mixed to ensure that the correct mixture is obtained.
FUEL HANDLING 20 – English Fueling Clean the area around the fuel cap. Clean the fuel and chain oil tanks regularly . The fuel filter must be replaced at least once a year . Contamination in the tanks causes malfunction. Make sure the fuel is well mixed b y shaking the container before refuelling.
ST ARTING AND ST OPPING English – 21 Starting and stopping Starting The chain brake should be activ ated when star ting the chain saw . Activate the chain brak e by pushing the front hand guard forw ards. Cold engine Start position (1): Set the star t/stop switch in the chok e position by pulling the red control outward - upw ard (1).
ST ARTING AND ST OPPING 22 – English • Nev er star t a chain saw unless the bar , chain and all cov ers are fitted correctly . See instr uctions under the heading Assembly . Without a bar and chain attached to the chain saw the clutch can come loose and cause serious injur y .
WORKING TECHNIQ UES English – 23 Before use: 1 Check that the chain brak e works correctly and is not damaged. 2 Check that the rear right hand guard is not damaged. 3 Check that the throttle loc kout works correctly and is not damaged. 4 Check that the stop s witch works correctly and is not damaged.
WORKING TECHNIQ UES 24 – English 6 Before mo ving your chain saw s witch off the engine and lock the chain using the chain brak e. Carr y the chain saw with the bar and chain pointing bac kwards. Fit a guard to the bar before tr anspor ting the chain saw or carrying it for any distance .
WORKING TECHNIQ UES English – 25 user . If the saw chain is jamming, the saw ma y be pushed back at y ou. 8 Unless the user resists this pushing force there is a risk that the chain saw will mov e so far bac kwards that only the kickbac k zone of the bar is in contact with the tree, which can lead to a kickbac k.
WORKING TECHNIQ UES 26 – English Limbing When limbing thick branches y ou should use the same approach as for cutting. Cut difficult branches piece by piece . Cutting If you ha ve a pile of logs, each log y ou attempt to cut should be remov ed from the pile, placed on a saw horse or runners and cut individually .
WORKING TECHNIQ UES English – 27 Felling direction The aim is to fell the tree in a position where y ou can limb and cross-cut the log as easily as possible.
WORKING TECHNIQ UES 28 – English Next mak e the bottom cut so that it finishes exactly at the end of the top cut. The directional cuts should run 1/4 of the diameter through the trunk and the angle between the top cut and bottom cut should be 45 ° .
WORKING TECHNIQ UES English – 29 Freeing a tree that has fallen badly Freeing a ”trapped tree” It is very dangerous to remove a tr apped tree and there is high accident risk. Nev er tr y to fell the tree that is trapped. Nev er wor k in the risk zone of the hanging trapped tree.
WORKING TECHNIQ UES 30 – English was being used when the kickbac k zone of the bar touched the object. Kickbac k only occurs if the kickback z one of the bar touches an object. Limbing Make sure that y ou can stand and move about saf ely . Work on the left side of the trunk.
MAINTENANCE English – 31 General The user must only carry out the maintenance and service work descr ibed in this manual. More extensive work must be carried out by an authorised service workshop. Carburetor adjustment Y our Jonsered product has been designed and manuf actured to specifications that reduce har mful exhaust fumes .
MAINTENANCE 32 – English Checking the inertia brake release With the engine turned off, hold the chain saw o ver a stump or other firm object. Let go of the front handle so that the bar drops towards the stump as the chain sa w rotates around the rear handle.
MAINTENANCE English – 33 Chain catcher Check that the chain catcher is not damaged and is firmly attached to the body of the chain saw . Right hand guard Check that the right hand guard is not damaged and that there are no visible def ects, such as crac ks.
MAINTENANCE 34 – English use a muffler if the spark arrestor screen is missing or defective. The muffler is designed to reduce the noise le vel and to direct the exhaust gases a wa y from the operator . The exhaust gases are hot and can contain sparks, which ma y cause fire if directed against dry and combustible material.
MAINTENANCE English – 35 Replacing the return and drive springs Recoil spring (A) • Lift up the star ter pulley . See instructions under the heading Changing a star ter cord. Remember that the recoil spring is coiled under tension in the star ter housing.
MAINTENANCE 36 – English Spark plug The spark plug condition is influenced by: • Incorrect carburetor adjustment. • An incorrect fuel mixture (too much or incorrect type of oil). • A dir ty air filter . These factors cause deposits on the spark plug electrodes, which ma y result in operating problems and star ting difficulties.
MAINTENANCE English – 37 ”T urbo Air Cleaning” centrifugal cleaning Centrifugal cleaning means the following: All air to the carburetor passes through the starter. Dir t and dust is pushed out by the cooling f an. IMPORT ANT! In order to maintain operation of the centrifugal cleaning system it must be regularly maintained.
