11 4 BASIC OPERA TION New2001 4 ■ Adjusting the squelch level T o adjust the IC-M72 ’ s squelch level, use the [ Y Y ] / [ Z Z ] keys as desired below . In order to receive signals properly , as well as for the scan to function effectively , the squelch must be ad- justed to the proper level.
12 4 BASIC OPERA TION New2001 ■ VOX function The VOX function (voice operated transmission) starts transmit- ting when you speak into the headset ’ s microphone. There is no need to push [PTT] . The IC-M72 automatically returns to receive mode when you stop talking.

14 SCAN OPERA TION New2001 5 ■ Scan types Scanning is an ef fi cient way to quickly locate signals over a wide frequency range. The transceiver has a priority scan set - ting and normal scan setting. In addition, the “ Weather alert ” and “ Auto scan ” functions are also available for scanning.
15 5 SCAN OPERA TION New2001 5 ■ Setting T AG channels For more efficient scanning, add desired channels as T AG channels or clear the T AG for unwanted channels. Untagged will be skipped during scanning. T AG channels can be assigned to each channel group (USA, INT , CAN) indepen- dently .
16 DUAL W A TCH/TRI-W A TCH New2001 New2001 6 ■ Description Dualwatch monitors Channel 16 while you are receiving another channel; tri-watch monitors Channel 16 and the call channel while receiving another channel. ■ Operation q Select the desired operating channel.

19 7 SET MODE New2001 7 D Auto scan function “” The auto scan function starts the desired scan automatically when no signal is received, and no operation is performed for 30 sec. D Dual/T ri-watch function “” This item selects dual or tri-watch as desired.
20 7 SET MODE New2001 D LCD contrast selection “” The contrast of the LCD can be selected from Hi (default) and Lo. D Auto power save function “” The auto power save function reduces current drain by deac- tivating the receiver circuit for preset intervals.
21 7 SET MODE New2001 7 D Battery voltage indicator “” This function controls display or non-display settings of the connected battery pack ’ s voltage when the power is ON. • The voltage of the connected battery pack is displayed for 2 sec. after power is turned ON.
22 7 SET MODE New2001 D D V oice scrambler code “” ( available with some versions only) There are 32 codes (1 to 32) available for programming. In order to understand each other , all transceivers in your group must share the same scrambler code.

Only Icom battery pack is tested and approved for use with Icom transceiver . Using third- party or counterfeit battery packs may cause smoke, fi re, or cause the battery to burst.
