Chapter 1. About the Multi-Burner drive This manual provides information on r egistering, installing, and using the IBM ® ThinkPad ® Multi-Burner Ultrabay ™ Enhanced Drive, and is available on the.

If you have an analog or IEEE 1394 capture device installed in your computer , you can use this software to r ecord video from a camera. v IBM Drive Letter Access (DLA) This software enables you to write dir ectly to CD-RW , CD-R, DVD-RAM, DVD-R W , and DVD-R media using the drive letter like you would if you were writing to a diskette.
This software enables you to cr eate full or incremental backups of your system files on DVD-RAM, DVD-R W , DVD-R, CD-R, or CD-RW media, and allows you to restor e your computer if it crashes. v Intervideo W inDVD This software enables you to play back DVD videos on your computer or to play video files from your har d disk drive.

Chapter 2. Using the Multi-Burner drive This section provides information on how to handle, load, and car e for DVDs and CDs and how to care for your Multi-Burner drive.
Caring for the Multi-Burner drive To protect your drive during operation, observe the following pr ecautions: v Remove the disc fr om the drive before moving the drive. v Do not insert for eign objects into the drive. v Do not stack objects on the drive.
Using the drive This section contains information on using the Multi-Burner . Using single and double-sided DVD-RAM media DVD-RAM media is available in single-sided and double-sided versions. The 2.6 GB and 4.7 GB versions are single-sided. The 9.4 GB versions ar e double-sided.
Precautions for handling Be careful when handling the r emoved disc. Debris, dust particles, fingerprints, smears, or scratches may impair recor ding and playback of the media. To clean dust or other debris, use a CD Cleaning Kit. Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the disc.
Note: For W indows 95, the DVD movie player is supported by W indows 95 OSR2.0 or later versions. Yo u can check which version of W indows 95 you are using by doing the following: 1. Click Start , move the cursor to Settings , and then click Control Panel .
4. Click the Device Manager button. 5. Click IDE A T A/A T API controller to pull down the submenu. 6. Double-click Secondary IDE . (Double-click Primary IDE if you ar e using the ThinkPad A21e computer .) 7. Select the DMA is available as the T ransfer Mode.
Installing WinDVD and viewing a DVD movie To install W inDVD, go to the ″ Softwar e ″ section of the Software and User’s Guide Super CD . After you install the Multi-Burner drive and W inDVD software, you can view a DVD movie. But first you need to set the DVD region code for your DVD content.
Starting WinDVD To start W inDVD, complete the following pr ocedure: 1. Click Start . 2. Click Programs . 3. Click InterV ideo WinDVD . 4. Click InterV ideo WinDVD to open the DVD movie player window . For more information on how to play the DVD movie player , refer to the W inDVD help information on the Software and User’s Guide Super CD .
For more information on using the softwar e, refer to the IBM RecordNow and IBM DLA help information on the Software and User’s Guide Super CD . Backing up a CD or DVD To copy a commercial CD or DVD, you must own the copyright or obtain permission from the copyright owner .
T ake the following actions: 1. If you can r ead the CD or DVD Disc in another CD or DVD player or you can see previous sessions, the dir ectory information might be damaged on the volume, making it unreadable. To get ideas for troubleshooting, check the documentation that comes with the software.
