5 2.2 Installing Your Mobile Phone 2.2.1 Installing the SIM Card There are two steps t o install the SIM card : 1. Remove the battery cov er. 2. Insert the SIM ca rd. 2.2.2 Installing the Battery 1. Angle the edge labeled a (with the contacts ) into the bottom end of the batt ery slot.
6 2.2.4 Charging the Battery Before charging the battery, e nsure that it has been properly inserted in to your phone. 1. Connect the USB cab le that came with your mobile phon e to the charger. 2. Connect the USB cable to your mob ile phone. Then, plug in the connect or of the char ger to an electrical outlet.
7 • The time required to charge the battery depends on the ambient tempe rature and the age of the battery . • When the battery is low on power, the phone plays an alert and displays a prompt. When battery power is almost exhausted, yo ur phone will power off automatically.

Touch OK . 2.4 Using the Touchs creen 2.4.1 Touchscreen Actio ns • Touch : Use the touch o f your finger to selec t an item, confirm a selection , or start an application. • Touch and hold : Touch an item with yo ur finger and con tinue to press dow n until your mobile phone respon ds.
9 ■ Note: If you have set up a screen unlock pa ttern, you will be prompted to draw the patter n on the screen to unlock it. 2.6 Home Screen 2.6.1 Notificati on and Status Icons 2.6.2 Notificati on Panel Your mobile phone will notify you w hen you receive a new messa ge or there is an incoming event.
10 Opening the Notificatio n Panel 1. When a new notificatio n icon appears on the notification bar , touch and hold the notification bar, and then flick dow n to open the notific ation panel. 2. On the notification panel, you can do the following: • Touch a notification to open the related applicatio n.
11 2.6.5 Changing the Wallpaper 1. On the Home screen, to uch > Wallpaper . 2. Do any of the following: • Touch Live wallpapers to select a picture and set it as the wallpaper. • Touch Gall ery to select a picture and se t it as the wallpaper. • Touch Wallpapers to select a picture and set it as the wallpaper.
12 3 Calling To make a phone call, you can dial a number or to uch a number f rom your contact list, on a Web page, or in a document. When y ou are on a c all, you can a nswer other incomin g calls or send t hem to your voicemail box. You can also set up conferen ce calls with several par ticipants.
13 3.2.2 Ending a Call During a call, touc h End to hang up. 3.2.3 Rejecting an Incoming Call Drag the to th e left to reject the call. 3.3 Other Operations Duri ng a Call 3.3.1 Making a Confere nce Call If you receive a new call wh ile you are already on a call, you c an connect the second c all to the call you are on.
14 2. Enter the phone numbe r of the next person you want to join the conversatio n and touch , or select someo ne from yo ur Call log or Contacts . The first p articipant is au tomatically plac ed on hold while you do this. 3. Once you have con nected to the second person, touch Merge cal ls to begin the conference call.
15 4 Contacts The Contacts application enables you to save and mana ge information su ch as phone numbers and addresses of your contacts. A fter you save contact information on your mobile phone, yo u have easy access t o the people with wh om you want to communic ate.
16 1. In the contacts list, to uch and hold the contact whose details you want to edit, and the n touch Edit contact in the optio ns menu. 2. Touch the category of contact information you wis h to change: name, phone number, email address, or an y other infor mation you r ecorded earlie r.
17 5 Using the Onscreen Keyboard 5.1 Displaying th e Keyboard Panel To enter text, use the ons creen keyboard. So me applications open the key board automatically . In others, touch a text fiel d to open the ke yboard. Touch the space where you want to writ e text to disp lay the keyboard.
18 5.1.3 Using the Swype Keyboard 5.1.4 Using the Land scape Keyboard If you find the keyboa rd inconvenient or diff icult to use, turn your mo bile phone sideways. The screen will display the key board in landscape or ie ntation, providing you with a wider keyboard layout.
19 6 Messaging The Messaging application allows you to exchange text mess ages (SMS) and multimedia messages (MMS) with anyone using an SMS-or -MMS-capable phone. With the Email application you can read and send e mails. 6.1 SMS and MMS 6.1.1 Opening Messag ing Touch > Messaging .
20 4. Touch Done to finish composin g your message and ret urn to the multimedia messag e screen. 5. To alter your multimedia message, tou ch Edit on the multimedia mes sage screen. When the message is ready to be se nt, touch Send . 6.1.4 Opening and Viewing a Multimedia Me ssage 1.
21 ★ Tip: When adding an additional email ac count, you have the option to use the new ac count to send all outgoing messages. 6.2.2 Viewing an Email Message 1. On the accounts sc reen, touch the em ail account you want to use. 2. Access a folder, and th en touch the message th at you want to view.
22 7 Getting Connected 7.1 GPRS/3G Your mobile phone will b e automatically configured to use your wireless s ervice provider’s GPR S/ 3G/EDGE serv ice (if available) when you turn on the phone for the first time. Not e that the SIM card must be insert ed.
23 7.3 Sharing Your Phone’s Data Co nnection You can share your mobile phone 's data connecti on with a single c omputer via a USB cable: USB tethering. You ca n share your mobile phone 's data connectio n with devices at the sa me time, by turning you r phone into a portable Wi- Fi hotspot.
24 ★ Tip: When the known or open W i-Fi networks and the mobile ne tworks are present at the same time, your phone will prefera bly select a Wi-Fi netw ork for internet ac cess. Open the browser opt ions menu and perform o ne of the following ope rations, touch : • New window : Touch to open a new win dow.
25 7.5 Bluetooth Your mobile phone has B luetooth, which allows you to create a w ireless connec tion with other Bluetooth devices s o you can share file s with your friend s, talk hands-free with a Bluetooth headset, or eve n transfer ph otos on your ph one to your PC.
26 8 Entertainment In addition to being a communication device a nd personal assist ant, your mobile phone als o provides you with a multitude of entertainment possibilities. You can take photos, create videos and audio clips, and do wnload and listen to musi c.
27 2. Touch the onscreen button to do any of the follow ing: • Touch Share to send the photo in a message or post it online. • Touch Delet e to delete the photo. • Touch More > Set as to set a picture as contact icon or wallpaper. 8.1.4 Recording a Vi deo 1.
28 2. Touch More . 3. Select either Rotate Le ft or Rotate Right . The picture is saved with the new or ientation. 8.2.4 Cropping a Pict ure 1. When viewing a pic ture, touch to display the mo re operations panel, and then touch More > Crop . 2. Use the cropping tool to sele ct the portion of the picture to crop.
29 3. Touch and hold the song, and then touch Add to playlist in the options menu. • Touch Current playlist to add the song to an existin g playlist. • Touch New to create a playlist an d add the song to it. 8.3.5 Playing a P laylist 1. Touch the Playlists tab on the music library screen.

31 2. Touch the account that contains the email you wa nt to read. 9.2.3 Creating and Sending an Email 1. In the mail list, touch , and then touch Compose . 2. Enter the message recipient’s email addres s in the To field. If y ou are sending the email to several recipien ts, separate the email addre sses with commas.
32 9.3.2 Adding a Frien d 1. In the friends list , touch , and then touch Add friend . 2. Enter the Talk instant messagin g ID or Google email address of the frie nd you want to add.

36 10 Synchronizing Information Some applications o n your mobile phone give y ou access to the same personal informa tion that you can add, view, and edit on your compu ter. If you add, change, or delete your infor mation in any of these applicati ons on the web, the updat ed information also app ears on your mobile phon e.

Confirm that you want to remove the ac count. 10.2 Customizing Your Acco unt Synchronization You can configure backg round data use a nd synchronization op tions for all the applicat ions on your phone. You c an also configure w hat kind of data yo u synchronize for each account.
38 11 Using Other Applications 11.1 Using the Calendar Use Calendar to create and man age events, meetings , and appointments. D epending on your synchronization se ttings, the calenda r on your phone can be sync hronized with the inte rnet-based calendar you use.
39 • Hide declined events : Select to hide events for which you have decline d invitations . • Set alerts & notifications : Touch to set event reminde rs to alert you, send you a notif ication, or to turn off event notific ations on your mobile phone.

41 12 Managing Yo ur Mobile Phone To configure your mobile phon e, touch > Settings . 12.1 Setting the Date and Ti me By default, yo ur mobile phone automa tically uses the date , time zone, and time p rovided by the network.
42 12.3.2 Adjusting the Volume You can adjust the volume f rom the Home scree n or any application scr een. Press the Vo lume keys to adjust volu me to the level you des ire. You can also adjust the volume from the settings scre en. 1. On the Settings screen, to uch Sound > Volume .
43 12.5.1 Installing Voice Data 1. On the Settings screen, touch Voice input & output > Text-to-speech se ttings > Install voice data . 2. If your mobile phone does not have speech synthesiz er data installed, connect to Android Market and let it guide you through the process of downlo ading and installing the data.
