16 Site Requi rements Power Installatio n The Power Supply (AC/DC) should be connected to an AC Outlet that is free o f electrical noise (clean). A qualified electrician can determine the amount o f electrical noise on the A C line.

T he scanner must then be configured to match the host’s R S232 parameters. Cable installation alone does not guarantee that t he scan ner will communicate properly w ith the host system.

33 Wake Activation Area ( Photocell LED O utput ) Th e MS2421/MS2422/MS2431 scanner ’s default pow er save mode † 41 is Dual Action Power Save M ode #2 (see page ). T his power save mode tu rns the l aser OFF after a configured pe riod of non - use then turns the motor OFF aft er thirty - minute intervals.
34 Wake Activation A rea Sensitivity (Photocel l LED Output Range ) Cha nging the Wake Area Sensitiv ity Level (Photocell LED Range Adjust) The MS2400 Series bar code scanner wake area sensitivity leve l can be set to the end users pre ference by scanning one of the Phot ocell Sensitivity adjustment bar codes below.
35 Audible Indicat ors W hen in operation , the MS2421/M S2422/MS2431 scanner pr ovide s audi ble feedback that indicates the status of the unit and the current scan . Eight settings are av ailable for the tone of th e beep (normal, six alternate tones and no tone) plus three volume settings.
36 Figure 32 . Blue LE D Visual Ind icato rs Blue LED is located near the bottom corner of the vertical output window. When the scanner is ON, the flashing or constant illumination of the LED indicates the status of the scanner and the current scan.
37 Fail ure Modes Flashi ng Blue and On e R azz berry Tone This indicates that the scanner has ex perienced a laser subsystem failure. The scanner wil l try up to thr ee times to correct the failure condition.
38 Diagnost ic Indi cator Display Th er e is a two - digit error code display located under ho riz ontal output window near the to p of t he platter (see f igure below) . Figure 33 . Error Co de Dis play The following is a list o f possible error codes and their meanin gs.
39 Error Code Description 09 COPROCES SOR COMMUNICAT ION ERRO R – The main microprocessor is not communicating with the interface coprocessor. The interface coprocessor may be in a fault condition with the host or just no t able to respond.
40 Error Code Description 28 LASER #2 ( R IG HT HO RIZ O NT AL ) UNDERCURRENT W ARNING – The l aser in t he right horizontal scanning subsystem is drawi ng too little current. The laser is probably not on. This could be the result of a l oss of the required set point in memory.
41 Power Save Modes Th e MS2421/MS2422/MS2431 bar code scanners ha ve f ive configurable power save modes. Refer to the MetroSelect Co nf ig ur at ion Guide for additional information on Pow er Save Modes. 1. Blink Power Save M ode: B links the laser OFF & O N after a conf ig ur ed period o f non - u se.
42 Beeper Options and Button Functions Changing the Beeper Tone Beeper tones may be configured incrementally using the following bar code. The new tone will be heard followed by a short pause. Two more new tones w ill be heard signifying the new setting has been stored in memory.
43 Startup W he n the scanner first receives pow er, the blue LED will turn on and the scanner will bee p once. T he scanner is now ready to scan. Power- Up Test Mode W hen a MS2421/MS2422/MS2431 scanner is first powered up, it cycles through a number o f self -tests before starting normal operation.

45 Main tenance Horiz ontal Scan Window Re placement Note: After the replacement platter has been ins talled, remove all protective film from the ne w platter’s window. The unit will not function properly i f the protective film is no t removed. Figure 38 .
46 Daily Main ten ance Smudges and dirt on the uni t’s window can interfere w ith the unit’s performance. I f the horizontal or vertical output windows require cleaning, use only a mild glass cleaner con taining no ammonia.
47 T roubleshoo ting The following guide is for re ference purposes only. Contact a customer service representative to preserve the limited warranty terms. Symptom Possible Cause(s) Solution All Interfaces No LED, beep , or mo tor s pin. No power is being supplied to the scanner.
48 Symptom Possible Cause(s) Solution All Interfaces Scanner beeps at some bar codes and NOT f or ot hers of the same bar code symbology. The prin t quality of t he bar code is suspect. The type of printer and/or the p rinter settings could be the problem.
49 Symptom Possible Cause(s) Solution RS232 Only The host is receiving data but the data does not look correct. The scanner and host may not be configured for the same interface. Check that the scanner a nd the host are configured for the same interface.
