How to Scan 1. The imager must be pointed at sligh t angle to the barcode so that the light reflected off the bar code can be seen by the image r . Do not hold the imager perpendicular to the bar code. 2. The scan line must cross the entire barcode.
T rouble shooting If the imager can not operate prop erly , t he following checks should be performed : 1. The cradle uses an ex ternal pow er supply and the extern al power supply has failed, t he imager will not operate. Change the power supply with a known goo d power supply and rese t the imager .
3. V erify the interface cable is secure ly connected to the cradle. 4. Check that the bar codes are of suf f icient quality to be recognized by the imag er . Wrinkled, smudged, or torn labels will cause the imager to not read at all. Scan a known good labe l to check the i mager’s read operation.
Wireless Connection Linking the image r wit h the cradle Follow these instru ctions to link the two devices: 1. Connect power to the cradle. The rad io LED (marked with a light symbol) will blink ambe r and the cradle w ill beep.
Unlinking There are three w ays to unlink an imager from a cradle: Force imager to discon nect and sleep 1. Scan the “Force imager to disconnec t and sleep” barcode – Reading the unlink barcode abo ve while the imager is in range of the cradle w ill break the link between the two devices and allo w another imager to link to the cradle.
4. Push the “Reset ” button on the bottom of crad le – If the cradle is linked w ith an imager a nd in range, pushing the “Reset” button (for ab out 2 seconds) on the bottom of cradle will drop the link betwee n the devices.
Battery Charging The imager contain s a 1000 mAh Lithiu m-Ion rechargeable battery . A full charged ba ttery will pr ovide up to 55,000 s cans over a 15 hours period.
How t o Change the Batt ery In case the containe d battery in side the imager needs to be replaced, please follow the procedu res below: 1. Loosen the screw at the bottom of the i mager . 2. T ake of f the batter y cover out of the imager . 5. Use a new battery pack and replace the used one.
Note : DO NOT touch the PCB A inside the imager w hen replacing the batter y . Improper operation may damage the imager . 6. Place the new ba ttery into the battery containe r . 7. Connect the bat tery cable connector to the main boa rd. 8. Put the battery cover back to the imager handle .
Wireless Features The AS -8020CL Wireless model includes an i mager and a cradle. When the i mager and cradl e are linked toge ther , the imager will read and decode barco des and transmit them via a Wireless radio to the cradle. The cradle w ill then trans mit the barcode dat a to the hos t computer over the host cable.
Auto Update When this feature i s enabled, an imager and its linked cradle can automatically en sure they st ay in sync with rega rd to firmware and/or configuration. This is acco mplished by the linked i mager and cradle c omparin g firmware version number and configuration file check sum.
Enable firmware a uto up date on ly – A llows only firmware upda ting. Disable auto up date – No automatic updates w ill be performed..
Deep Sleep M ode The WIRELESS i mager can be pl aced into Deep Sleep Mode after thi s progra mmed duration (sin ce the units ’ last scanning activity).
Wireless Connectiv ity The AS -8020CL can be linked to any Bluetooth (BT) enab led device which can ac cept such a connection with o ther devices. T o implement this fea ture, user should set the imager to “Crad le/Dongle connection auto detection” fir st.
Wireless Connectiv ity (co ntinued) User is also allow ed to set any four - to six-character PIN code assigned to the target Bluetooth device using the setting procedures below : ST A TE CODE Cradle/Dongle connection auto detection Program Begin PIN setting PIN no.
Inquiry Beep Con trol When the cradle is no t linked to an imager , the Radio LED will blink amber and the cradle w ill beep. This beep can be disabled or reconfigured to sound for differen t durations by using the follow ing programming b arcodes.
