W ARNING The engine exhaust from this product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer , birth defects or other reproductive harm.
KICKBACK WARNING KICKBACK occurs when the moving chain contacts an object at the upper portion of the tip of the guide bar or when the wood closes in and pinches the saw chain in the cut. Contact at the upper portion of the tip of the guide bar can cause the chain to dig into the object and stop the chain for an instant.
RECOMMENDED BAR AND CHAIN COMBINATIONS COMBINAISONS RECOMMANDÉES DE GUIDE-CHAÎNE ET DE CHAÎNE COMBINACIONES RECOMENDADAS DE BARRAS Y CADENAS TO MAINTAIN EASY STARTING AND CUTTING PERFORMANCE Before storing your chain saw for more than 30 days, drain all fuel from tank into a container approved for gasoline.
A. Front hand guard /Chain Brake B. Front handlebar C. Cylinder cover D. Throttle lock button for starting E. Trigger lock F. Rear handle G . Throttle trigger H. Ignition Switch (I) On / (O) Off I. Fuel mix cap J . Chain oil cap K. Starter/Fan housing L.
NOTE: Exposure to vibrations through prolonged use of gasoline powered hand tools could cause blood vessel or nerve damage in the fingers, hands, and wrists of people prone to circulation disorders or abnormal swellings. Prolonged use in cold weather has been linked to blood vessel damage in otherwise healthy people.
• Always use caution when handling fuel. Move the chain saw at least 10 feet (3m) from the fueling point before starting the engine. • Do not operate a chain saw with one hand! Serious injury to the operator, helpers, by- standers, or any combination of these per- sons may result from one-handed operation.
MAINTENANCE • Never operate a chain saw that is damaged, improperly adjusted, or is not completely and securely assembled. Be sure that the saw chain stops moving when the throttle control trigger is released.
FRONT HAND GUARD Your saw has a factory-installed front hand guard to prevent contact with the chain if your hand slips off the front handle. Do not remove the front hand guard. Maintain the guard in good condi- tion and do not use the guard as a hand grip.
GUIDE BAR AND CHAIN ASSEMBLY DANGER Never start your engine unless guide bar, chain, drivecase cover and clutch drum are installed. Without all these parts in place, the clutch can fly off or explode. 1. Always put the switch to "O" stop before you do any work on the saw.
CHAIN TENSION 1. Stop the engine before setting tension. Turn the adjusting screw ( I ) clockwise to move the guide bar outward until the chain is tight to the bar but can still be pulled around the bar by hand. See Illustration A. Tighten guide bar nut(s) securely to lock in position.
DISPOSITIF DE LUBRIFICATION DE LA CHAÎNE CHAIN OIL SYSTEM 1. Use HOMELITE ® Bar and Chain Oil. It is designed for chains and chain oilers and is formulated to perform over a wide temperature range with no dilution required. If not available, use any new SAE-30 weight engine oil.
9. Pull starter until engine tries to run. (No more than 6 pulls.) 10. Move choke lever to half choke position ( G ) and pull starter until engine runs. 11. Move choke lever to run position ( H ). Squeeze the trigger and then release. This unlatches the trigger and gives you control of throttle for cutting.
WORK AREA PRECAUTIONS • Cut only wood or materials made from wood; no sheet metal, no plastics, no masonry, no non-wood building materials. • Never allow children to operate your saw.
UNUSUAL HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS • Do not fell trees during periods of high wind or heavy precipitation. Wait to do your cutting until the hazard has ended. • Do not cut down trees having an extreme lean or large trees that have rotten limbs, loose bark, or hollow trunks.
3. Cut a notch ( C ) about 1/3 the diameter of the trunk in the side of the tree. Make the cuts of the notch so they intersect at a right angle to the line of fall .
LOAD A LOAD B A B During bucking operations always stand on the uphill side so that the cut-off section of the log can not roll over you. A wedge can be used on large diameter logs to hold the cut open (See illustration).
LIMBING AND PRUNING • Work slowly, keeping both hands on the saw with a firm grip. Maintain secure footing and balance. • Keep the tree between you and the chain while limbing ( A ). Cut from the side of the tree opposite the branch you are cutting.
HOW TO FILE THE CUTTERS Be careful to file all cutters to the specified angles and to the same length, as fast cutting can be obtained only when all cutters are uniform. 1. Clamp the middle of the guide bar in a vice. Be careful that you do not pinch the guide bar rails or the chain will not move freely in the groove.
RAKER (DEPTH GAUGE) CLEARANCE 1. The rakers ( D, see page 24 ) should be maintained at a clearance ( A, see page 24 ) between .020" (0.5 mm) and .018 (0.46 mm). Depth gauge tool #D06885 can be used for checking the raker clearances. 2. Every time the chain is filed, check the raker clearance.
REGULAR MAINTENANCE AIR FILTER MAINTENANCE For proper performance and long life, keep air filter clean. TO INSPECT AND CLEAN OR REPLACE THE AIR FILTER NOTE Always clean the air filter before making any mixture adjustments of the carburetor.
SPARK ARRESTOR 1. Always keep the muffler ( A ) and spark arrestor ( B ) on your saw in good condition. A faulty spark arrestor screen can create a fire hazard. 2. The spark arrestor screen is retained by the deflector ( C ). Remove the deflector screw ( D ) to access screen.
