Getting S ta rted - 9 - Pass the str ing through the lens cap and gr ip belt and attach it as shown in the f igure. Removing the lens cap Alway s attach the lens cap to pr otect the lens when carr y ing or stor ing the cam corder. Dur ing shooting attach the lens cap as s hown in the figure to prevent it f rom being lost.

Getting S ta rted - 12 - Install the battery to pr event misplac ing it. 1. Pull out the battery holder. 2. Insert the battery with the "+" terminal f acing up. 3. Fully insert the battery holder into the cam cor der. WARNING: KEEP THE BA TT ERIES AWA Y FR OM CHILDREN A ND PETS.
Getting S ta rted - 13 - 3. Once the arr ows are aligned, push down on the battery. 4. W hile pushing down the battery, slide it to the right until it "click s" into place. 5. After ins talling the battery, close the cover. Hold the OPEN lever and align the tabs on both sides of the cover with the end of the attachm ent section.
Getting S ta rted - 14 - 3. Remove the batter y and close the c over. Checking the Battery 's Charge A battery char ge indicator is loc ated on the upper right cor ner of the viewfinder. One of thr ee symbols displays when the battery is us ed. This symbol indicates a f ully charged battery .
Getting S ta rted - 15 - 3. Insert six alkaline batter ies with the correct polar ities. 4. After ins talling the batteries, clos e the cover. Hold the OPEN lever and align the tabs on both sides of the cover with the end of the attachm ent section. Note: Use only "AA" alkaline batteries m ark ed "LR6".

Inserting and Removing Cassettes A power sourc e must be connected befor e inserting or r emoving cass ettes. Once c onnected cas settes can be inserted or removed whether the CAM/OFF/VIDEO switc h is on or off.
Getting S ta rted - 18 - Using the Linear Ti me Counter The linear time counter displays the tape r un in hours, minutes, and s econds, helping y ou to keep track of how long you've been filming or time y ou have left to film before running out of tape.

Press the r ed button on the CAM/OFF/VIDEO switch as you slide it to CAM. 2. Press the DAT E/T ITLE button to spec ify the date display y ou want to record.

This requir es an optional sy nchro edit cable. T he Hitachi VM-E220A uses a fly ing erase head to eliminate glitches or rainbow noise that s ometimes occur s between edits.
