English 6 Cautions When Using Handle the liquid crysta l display (LCD) with ca re: • The LCD is a very delicate display device: Do not press its surface with force, hit it or prick it with a sharp obje ct. • If you push the LCD surfac e, unevenness in display may occur .

English 33 VIEWING IMA GE ON LCD MONIT OR SCREEN If you open the LCD monitor , you can monitor subject image on the LCD scr een. 1 Open the LCD mo nitor . The LCD monitor has a portion wher e you can hook your finger . Hook the finger there to open the mo nitor .
English 34 Setting Date and Time Set the current date and time so that the date and time you mak e a recording ca n be recorded correctly . The f ollowing procedure can also be used to correct the date and time you ha ve already set.

English 39 Inser ting and Removing Disc 1 Pres s down the DISC EJECT button once and relea se it. A few moments after th e ACCESS/PC indicator blinks, the cover of disc insertion block will op en. 2 Gently open the co ver by hand fully until it stops.

English 43 Recor ding Stills Note : Recording of still images is possibl e on D VD-RAM disc and card. 1 Remove the le ns cap, and then point the DVD video camer a/recor der at subject. 2 T u rn the DVD camera/r ecorder on. When using DVD-RAM disc: Set the power switch to “ ”.
English 44 Swift Restar t of Recor ding (SLEEP/REST AR T button) If you press the SLEEP/REST A RT button while in th e recor ding pause status instead of turning the DVD video camera/r ecorder of f, the status that recor ding is possible will be r estored in appr ox.
English 45 Recor ding using LED Light (for DZ-GX5040E only) Y ou can use the LED light to illuminate a subject to be recor ded in a dark place. 1 Pres s the 1 b ut to n d ur in g re co rdi ng pa us e o r re co rdi ng. An icon will appear on the scr een, and the LED light will glow .

English 55 Manually Focusing Subject The D VD video cam era/recorder usually f ocuses on a su bject automatically (autof ocus). Y ou can also manually f ocus a subject depending on the recording conditions.
English 56 Manually focus the following objects , which may not be automatically fo cused (see page 55): Objects not in the centre of screen Objects that are f ar and near at the same time Objects w ith little v ariation in brightness, such as white wall Objects moving rapidly Dark objects Objects lit by neon sign, spotlight, etc.
English 57 Adjusting Brightness of Image to be r ecorded (Exposur e) The D VD video camera/recorder usually adjusts the ex posure automatically . Y ou can also manually adjust the exposure depending on the recording conditions. 1 Pres s the EXPOSURE button during rec o rd i n g.
English 58 Using Full Auto Function Pressing the FULL A UT O button will fully automate the camera functions. 1 Press the FULL AUTO button. “FULL AUT O” will be displa yed on the screen of DVD video camera/r ecorder for several seconds.

English 60 RECORDING D AR K SUBJECTS USING LCD MONIT OR LIGHT When Programme AE is set to Lo w Light, you can use the light from LCD monitor to record a subject. 1 Press the MENU button, and choose “Program AE” from the “Camer a Func tions Setup” menu.

English 64 SETTING T O WIDE TV SCR EEN MODE (16:9 MODE) When viewing recor ded images later on a wide-scr een TV (aspect ratio 16:9), specify wide-scr een (16:9) mode “On”: Y ou can also recor d images with the aspect ratio changed (the aspe ct ratio with “Off ” is 4:3).

English 68 Disc Navigation Using Disc Navigation ST ARTING OR TERMINA TING DISC NA VIGA TION Disc Navigation is a tool for editing scenes r ecorded on this DVD video camera/r ecorder . Her e is an explanation on “sce ne” and “program me”, so that you will be able to ma ke most use of Disc Navigation function.

English 73 SKIP PLA YB A CK OF MO VIE During playback, press the 2 or 1 button to locate the star t of desired scene. Press 1 once: T o skip to the first image of the scene following the one being played back, and start playback. Press 2 once: T o return to the first image of the scene being played back, an d start playback.
English 74 JUMPING T O SPECIFIE D POINT (GO T O) 1 Press the MENU button during playback. 2 Choose the option (point you want to go to), and then press the button. To p : T o go to the start, an d enter p layback pause. End: T o go to the end of last scene, and enter playback pause.

English 80 Scene DELETING SCENES (EDIT – D ELETE) Y ou may want to delete unwanted scenes. Scenes on DVD-R W (VF-mode)/DVD-R disc cannot be deleted, and menu item “Delete” will not appear with DVD-R W (VF-mode)/DV D-R disc. When using +R W , no scene can be delete d from the Disc Navigation menu (see page 71).

English 85 CHANGING IMA GES FOR THUMBNAILS (EFFECT – THUMBNAIL) Normally , the first image of the r ecorded scene is displayed as a thumbn ail: Y ou can choose another image of the scene for thumbnail. If you set a vivid ima ge to thumbnail, you can know what you recor ded from a glance at the Disc Navigatio n screen.
