It is the responsibility of the owner to ensure t hat all users of this treadmill are adequately informed of all warnings and precautions.
4 24. DANGER: Always unplug the power c ord immediately after use, before cleaning the treadmill, and before performing the maintenance and adjustment procedures de- scribed in this manual. Never remove the motor hood unless instructed to do so by an a uthorized service representative.
5 C ongratulations for purchasing the SOFTSTRIDER A60™ treadmill by HealthRider. The SOFTSTRIDER A60 treadmill offers an impressive array of features to help you achieve your fitness goals in the convenience and privacy of your home.
6 ASSEMBL Y Assembly requires two people. Place the treadmill in a cleared area and remove all packing materials. Do not d ispose of the packing materials until the treadmill is assembled. N o tools are required. Note: The underside of the treadmill walking belt is coated with high-performance lubricant.
7 GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS THE PERFORMANT LUBE T M WALKING BELT Your treadmill features a walking belt coated with PERFORMANT LUBE TM ,a high-performance lubricant. I MPORTANT: Never apply silicone spray or other substances to the walking belt or the walking plat- form.
8 CONSOLE OPERA TION FEATURES OF THE CONSOLE The advanced console offers an impressive array of features to make your workouts more enjoyable and effective. When the console is in the manual mode, the speed and incline of the treadmill can be changed with a touch of a button.
9 Refer to the drawing at the top of page 8. A. Accessory Tray—Holds your personal items. B. Water Bottle Holder—Keeps your water bottle handy during your workouts. C. Hand Pulse Sensor—Allows you to measure your heart rate before you begin exercising, during your workouts, and again when you finish.
10 I nsert the key into the console. See HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER on page 9. Note: When you are familiar with the console, you may go directly to step 5. While learning to u se the console, please read all steps. Select the MANUAL mode. When the key is inserted, the MANUAL indicator will begin to flash.
11 SPEED display —This display shows the speed o f the walking belt, in miles per hour or kilome- t ers per hour. How to select miles per h our and kilometers p er hour: H old down the STOP/PAUSE button while inserting the k ey into the console.
12 E nter your age if desired. See step 4 on page 10. Adjust the maximum incline or speed setting. If you selected the Incline 1, Incline 2, or Incline 3 program: After an age setting is entered, a number will begin to flash in the DISTANCE/ INCLINE display.
13 T he Custom 1 and Custom 2 programs are workout programs that you create. The programs control both the speed and the incline of the treadmill, and can be up to forty minutes long. The programs are stored in m emory, and can be changed as many times as de- sired.
14 W hen the program is completed, remove the k ey. Make sure that the incline of the treadmill is at 1%. The incline must be at 1% when the treadmill is folded to the storage position or the treadmill will be damaged. Remove the key from the con- s ole a nd p ut it in a secure place.
15 The console features an information mode that keeps track of the total time and distance accumulated on the treadmill. The information mode also allows you to switch the console from miles per hour to kilometers per h our. To select the information mode, hold down the STOP/PAUSE button while inserting the k ey i nto the console.
16 The convenient hand pulse sensor allows you to measure your heart rate before you begin exercising, during your workout, and again when you finish. To use the hand pulse sensor, the console must be turned on (see HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER on page 9).
17 HOW T O FOLD AND MOVE THE TREADMILL HOW TO FOLD THE TREADMILL FOR STORAGE B efore folding the treadmill, adjust the incline to the lowest position. If this is not done, the treadmill may be permanently damaged. Next, unplug the power cord. Caution: You must be able to safely lift 45 pounds (20 kg) in order to raise, lower, or move the treadmill.
P ROBLEM SOLUTION a. Make sure that the power cord is plugged into a surge protector, and that the surge protector is plugged into a properly grounded outlet. (See page 7.) Use only a UL-listed surge protector, rated at 15 amps, with a 14-gauge cord of five feet or less in length.
19 PROBLEM SOLUTION a. If the walking belt has shifted to the left, first remove the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD . Using the allen w rench, turn the left rear roller adjustment bolt clockwise, and the right bolt counter- c lockwise, 1/4 of a turn each.
20 The following guidelines will help you to plan your ex- ercise program. Remember—these are general guide- lines only. For more detailed exercise information, ob- tain a reputable book or consult your physician.
21 SUGGESTED STRETCHES T he correct form for several basic stretches is shown at the right. Move slowly as you stretch—never bounce. 1 . Toe Touch Stretch Stand with your knees bent slightly and slowly bend forward from your hips. Allow your back and shoulders to relax as you reach down toward your toes as far as possible.
