Four-Channel Digital Video Recorder 1 Chapter 1 — Introduction Features Your color digital video record er (DVR) provides recording capabilities for 4 camera inputs.
User’s Manual 2 Technical Overview Your DVR can replace both a time-lapse VCR and a multiplexer in a security installation. However, it has many feat ures that make it much more pow erful and easier to use th an even the most advanced VCR. The DVR converts analog video to digital images a nd r ecords them on a hard disk drive.

User’s Manual 6 AI 1 to 4 (Alarm In) You can use external devices to signal the DVR t o react to events. Mechani cal or electrical switches can be wired to the AI (Alarm In) and GND (Ground) connectors. See C hapter 3 — Configuration for configuring alarm input.

A USB port on the front panel is provided to conn ect external hard disk drives, CD-RW drives or flash drives for archiving video . Position the exte rnal hard disk drive close enough to the DVR so that you can make the cable conne ctions, usually less than 6 feet.

User’s Manual 10 Panic Button Pressing the PANIC button activates panic recording, so the DVR will record video regardless of the time-lapse or event recording schedule. Pr ess the button again to releas e the panic recording. NOTE: When the DVR is in th e Panic recording mode, the REC LED flick ers and displays on each camera screen.
Four-Channel Digital Video Recorder 11 Enter/Pause Button This button selects a highlighted item or completes an entry that you have made. Pressing the ENTER/PAUSE button in the live monitoring m ode freezes the current live screen, and the screen displays .
User’s Manual 12 Turning on the Power Connecting the power cord to the DVR turns on the unit. The unit will take approximately 60 seconds to initialize. Initial Unit Setup Before using your DVR for th e first time, you will want to establish the initial sett ings.

If you sele ct Off , you will use the Normal Setup screen to change the DVR’s settings. Highlight the first box beside Re cording Spe ed/Quality, and select recording speeds from as few as 0.

Four-Channel Digital Video Recorder 21 NOTE: If the D VR senses S.M.A.R.T. Alert or High Temperature , the S.M. A.R.T. Monitoring Information screen w ill appear. Once the S.M.A.R.T. M onitoring Information screen displays, replacing the hard disk dri ve is recommended, usually within 24 hours.

User’s Manual 24 You can assign titles to each camera by highlighting the Ti tle heading and pressing the button. A virtual keyboard al lows you to enter camera n ames. Selecting the PTZ Device box causes a list of controllable cameras to display. Select your camera from the list and press the button.
Four-Channel Digital Video Recorder 25 The alarm terminal strip on the back of the DVR has inputs associated with e ach alarm. You can set up each input on the Alarm In Setup screen. You can turn each input On (via Alarm I/O or Camera Alarm ) or Off .
User’s Manual 26 The Motion Detection Zone screen is laid over the video for the s elected camera. You can s et up motion detection zones by selec ting or clearing blocks. User’s Manual 32 Pressing the PANIC button on the front panel enters the Panic Recording mode. You can program the recording sp eed, quality and duration when the DVR is in the Panic Recording mode. On Panic Recording Speed can be set from 0.5 to 25 ips, and On Panic Recording Qualit y can be selectable from Ver y High, High, Standard and Low .

Four-Channel Digital Video Recorder 35 You can set the amount of time to record prior to the event by adjusting the Dw ell Time . You can set the Dwell Time from 1 to 300 seconds. NOTE: When the DVR is in the Time-Lapse mode, it i gnores the pre-event setti ngs and follows the time-lapse s ettings.
