9 2 Before you Begin This section w ill guide y ou through the insta llati on pr ocess . Placement o f the EnG enius EAP 600 is essential t o maximize the access poin t’ s per for mance. Avoid placing th e EAP600 in an enclose d space such as a closet, ca binet, or stair well.
10 2.2 Com puter Set tings ( in W indow s XP /Windo ws 7 ) In orde r to us e the EAP60 0, you must f irst conf igure the T CP/IPv4 conne ction of your W indow s OS co mputer sy stem.
11 In Windows X P , click Network Connection s In Windows 7 , click View Network Status and Tasks in th e Network and Internet section, t hen select Change adapter settings Right click on .
12 Select “ Inter net Protocol Version 4 ( TCP/IP v4 ) ” an d then select Properties Select Use the followi ng IP address and enter an IP addres s that is different from the E AP600 and subnet mask then click OK . Note: Ensure that the IP address and subnet mask are on the same subnet as the devic e.

14 2.4 Hardware Installation 1. Ensure that the c ompute r in use has an Ether net Control ler (RJ - 45 Et hernet Port). For m ore i nfor mation, ver ify with y our compute r ’s use r manual. 2. Connect one end of the Category 5e Ethernet cable into the RJ - 45 port of the EAP600 a nd the other end to the RJ - 45 port of the compute r.
15 Mounti ng the E AP60 0 Using the provided har dware, the EAP600 can be attac hed to a ceiling or wall. T o at tach the EAP600 to a cei ling or wall using the mou nting bracket: 1) Attach the mounting b racke t to the wall or ceiling using the provided wall/ceiling mounting hardwar e kit.
16 3) Mount the EAP600 on the mounting bracke t by rot ating the unit clockwise about 90 degrees to secure i t in place. T o at tach the EAP600 to a cei ling using the provided T - rail connectors: 1) Attach the T - ra il conne ctors t o the bottom cov er of t he EAP600 using the provided shor t scre ws.
17 2) Line up the connect ed T - rail conne ctors with an appro priately sized rail and pr ess the uni t onto the ra il until i t snaps into place. Note : T o protec t your EAP600 , use the Kensing ton security slot to at tach a cable lock (cable lock is no t included).

22 4 Building a Wir eless Net work The EAP600 has the ability t o operate in v arious modes. This chapter describes the operating modes of the EAP600. 4.1 Acces s Point Mode In Acce ss P oint Mode, EAP600 behav es lik es a central c onnection f or stations or clie nts that suppor t IEEE 80 2.
23 4.2 WDS AP M ode The EAP600 also supp or ts W DS AP m ode. This operating mode a llows wir eless conne ctions to the E AP600 using WDS tec hnology . In this mode , conf igure the M AC addresses in both A ccess P o ints t o en large the wireless a rea by ena bling WDS Link set tings.
24 4.3 WDS Br idge Mo de In WDS Br idge Mode, the E AP600 can wir elessly connect differ ent L ANs by conf iguring the MAC addres s and security settings o f each EAP60 0 device. Use this mode when two wi red LAN s located a small distance apar t want to communicat e with e ach other .
25 4.4 Repeater mode The Repeater mode i s used to regen erate or replicate sig nals from a wir eless r outer or other access point/stat ion that is unable to reac h cer tai n areas in a b uilding.

33 5.6 System Log The EAP600 a utomatically logs (records) events of possibl e inter est in its inte rnal memor y . T o view the logged informati on, click the System Log link under the St a t u s menu. If t here is not e nough internal m emor y to log all event s, olde r event s are deleted from the log.
34 6 System 6.1 Ope ration Mode The EAP600 sup por ts four operating modes: Access P o int, WDS AP , WD S Bridge, and R epeater . S ystem Pro pert ies Device Nam e Enter a name for the devic e. The name you type appears in SNMP management. This name is not the SSID and is not bro adcast to other devices.

53 7.4 Wireless MA C Filter ing W ireless M AC Filterin g is used to a llow or d eny network a ccess to wireless clients (comp uters, tablet PCs, N AS, smar tphones, etc.) ac cording t o their MAC a ddresses. Y ou can manually add a MAC addr ess to restrict t he permi ssion t o access EAP600.
