INTRODUCTION This chap ter describes the features of th e ENMGS-16+2 an d some background in formation abou t Ethern et/Fast Ethern et/Gigabit Ethernet switchi ng tec hnol ogy. Gigabit Ethernet Technology Gigabit Ethernet is an extensio n of IEEE 802.
In addition, the ph enomenal bandwidth delivered b y Gigabit Ethernet is the m ost cost-e ffective method t o ta ke advanta ge of to day and tom orrow’s rapidl y im provi ng swi tchin g an d rout ing i nternet worki ng technologies.
Switching Technology Anothe r ap proach to pushi ng bey ond the limi ts of Ethernet techn ology is the de velopm ent of s witchi ng techno logy. A s witch bridges Ethernet pac kets at the M AC address level of the Ethern et protoc ol transm itting a mong co nnected Et hernet or Fast Et hernet L AN segments.
VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network) A VLAN is a gr oup of e nd-st ations that are n ot constrai ned by their physical location and can c ommunicate as if a comm on broadcast domain, a LAN. The primary u tility of u sing VLAN is to reduce latency and n eed for ro uters, u sing fa ster swit ching i nstead.

UNPACKING AND INS TALLATION This chapter provid es unpacking and installation in formation for the Switch. Unpacking Open the sh ipping carton s of the Switch and carefully unpack s its content s.
Leave at least 10cm of s pace at th e front and re ar of the hub fo r ventilatio n. Install the Switch on a sturdy , level surface that can support its weight, or in an E IA standa rd-size e quipm ent rack. For i nform ation on rack installation, see the next section, Rack Moun ting .
Rack Mounting The switch can be mounted in an EIA standard-size, 19 -inch r ack, which can be placed in a wiring clos et with other equipm ent. Attach the mou nting brac kets at the s witch’s front panel (one on eac h side), and secure them with the provid ed screws.
Connecting Network Cable The Swit ch suppo rts 1000M bps Gigabit Et hernet that runs in Aut o- nego tiation mode and 10Mbps Ethernet or 100Mbps Fast Ether net that runs b oth in half and f ull du plex m ode and 1000Mbps Gigabi t Ethernet runs in full duplex mode usi ng four pairs of Cat egory 5 cable.
IDENTIFYING EXTE RNAL COMPONENTS This cha pter d escribes t he fr ont pa nel, rea r panel , and LED i ndicators of the Switch. Front Panel The figure below show s the fr ont panels of the Switch .
Combo mini-GBIC Ports (Po rt 15~16 ) The Switch is equipped with two co mbo mini-GBIC por ts, supported optional 1000BASE-SX/LX mini-GBIC m odule. The 1000BASE- T port 15 and 16 ar e the same ports with the mini- GBIC port 15 and 16, w hen p lug i n the mi ni-GBIC modul e, the devi ce will activate mini-GBIC, and the RJ45 port will be disab led.

1000BASE-T Port 1~16 Status LEDs Link/ACT: Link/Activity On : When the Link/ACT LED li ghts on, the respective port is successfully connected to an E t her net network. Blinking : When the Link/ACT LED is blinking, the port is transm itting or receiving data on the Ethernet network.
Combo m ini-GBIC Port 15~ 16 Status LEDs Link/ACT On : When the fiber line connected to the mini-GBIC module is installed and connected to a network, the Link/ACT LED will lig hts on. Blinking : When the Link/ACT LED is blinking, the port is t ransmitting or receiving data on the Giga bit Ethernet network.
CONFIGUR ATION Through t h e Web Br owser y ou can configure t he Switch such as VLAN, Port Trunking, Jum bo Frame… etc. With the attached W eb Management Utility, you can easily d iscover all the Web Managem ent Swit ch, assign t he IP Address, changi ng the password a n d upgrading the new firm ware.

Discovery List This is the list where you can discover all the Web manage ment devices in t h e entire networ k.

Device Setting You can set the device by using the function k ey in the Device Setting Dialog box. Configuration Se tting: In this Configuration Setting, you can set the IP Address, S ubnet Mask, Gateway, Set Trap t o (Trap IP A ddress), System name, Location a nd DHCP funct ion.

Toolbar The toolbar in the Web Management Utility hav e four m ain tabs, File, View, Options and Help. In the “File TAB” , there are Monitor Save, Monitor Sav e As, Monitor Load and E xit.
Configuring the Switch The 16-P ort 10/ 100/10 00Mbps Web-Sm art Gigabit Et hernet S witch has a Web GUI interf ace for smart switch configuration . The Switch can be configur ed through the Web Browser. A network administr ator can manage, co ntrol and monitor th e switch from the local LAN.
Or through the W eb Management Utility, yo u do not n eed to remem ber the IP Address, select th e device sho wn in the M onitor List of the Web Manag ement Utility to settle th e device on the W eb Browser.
Configuration Menu When the m ain page appears, find the Con figurati on menu in the left side of the screen ( Figure 16 ). Click on t he setup ite m t hat you want to configure. There are sixtee n options: Port Setting, IE EE 802.1Q VLAN Setting s, Trunk Setting, Mirror S etting, IEEE 802.
Configuration Setting Find that there are seven items, inclu ding Port Setting, IEEE 802.1Q VLAN Settings, Trun k Setting, Mirror Setting, IEEE 802.1p Defau lt Priority, Broadcast S trom Control Setting , Jumbo Frame S etting in Setup m enu.
The 1000BASE-T connections ca n op erate in Forced Mode settings (1000M Full , 100M Full, 10 0M Half, 10M F ull, 1 0M Hal f), Auto , or Disable. The default setting for all ports are Auto.
IEEE 802.1Q VLAN A VLAN is a gro up of port s that can be any where in t he netw ork, but communicate as though they were in the sa me area. VLANs ca n be easily o rganiz ed to reflect de partment gro.
Asymmetric VLAN IEEE 802.1 Q Asymmetric VLA N default settin g is “Disab led”, you can press “En abled” ratio button and Apply it to sub mit the Asymmetric VLAN function.
Untag VLAN Settin g: The IEEE 802.1 Q VLAN Configur ation page pr ovides powerf ul VID management fun ctions. The origin al default VLAN settin g has the VID as 01, named “de fault”, and co nt ains all ports as “Untagge d”.
VID: A u nique VL AN ID. VLAN Name: A VLA N nam e can be setting as user wi sh . Port: The swit ch po rt num ber. Untag: Out going fram es without VLAN tag. Tag: Outgoing frames with VLAN tag. Not Member : The port num ber which not to be gro u ped . Select All: Select all ports to be VLAN me mbers or not VLAN members.
To chang e exist VLAN setting, press the VID to m od ify it. Figure 23. Modify VID Figure 24. Modify VID PVID settin gs : While receiving an unta gged fram e from the port, the switch will assign a tag to the fram e, using the PVID of the port as its VID.

Tag VLAN Settin g The IEEE80 2.1Q prot ocol defines a new form at of the fra me; i t adds a tag header in th e original Ethernet fram e, as follows: IEEE802.1Q Ta g VLAN is di vided by VLAN ID (VID). On receiving a frame, the switch checks t he VID in the tag header of t he frame to decide which VLAN it bel ongs to.
Example3: Figure 30. Tag VLAN setting exam ple Step1: Set VLAN1 member port1 to “Tag Po rt ” and port 9~16 to “Not Mem ber”, then apply setting. Step2: Add VID2 and set port1 to “Tag Po rt” and Port 9~16 to “Untag Port” member, then apply setting.
Another example is ab out setting tag VLAN with two switches. Switch 1’s VLA N 1 (2 ~ 3 ports) have access to th e Switch 2’s VLAN 1 (2 ~ 3 ports). Example4: Figure 31. Tag VLAN setting exam ple The settings of VLAN group for two devices are same .
Trunk Setting The Tru nking functi on ena bles the cascadin g of tw o or more ports f or a combi ned larger ba ndwidt h. Up to six T runk gro ups m ay be created, each supporting up to 8 ports. Add a T runking Nam e and select the ports to be trunk ed together, an d click Apply to activ ate the selected Trunking g roups.
Mirror Setting Port Mir rorin g is a m ethod of m onitori ng net work traf fic th at forwa rds a copy of eac h incom ing and/or out going pa cket from one port of the Switch to anoth er port where the pa ck et can be stu died. This ena bles networ k managers to better m onitor network pe rformances.
IEEE 802.1p Default Priority This feature displays the status Qu ality of Service pr iority levels of each port, and for packets t hat are untagged, the switc h will assign t he priority in the tag depending on your co nfiguration. Figure 34. IEEE 802.
Broadcast Storm Control Setting The Broad cast Storm Control feature provides the ab ility to control the receive rate of broadc asted packets. If Enable d (default is Disabled), thresho ld settings of 8,000 ~ 4,096,000 bytes per second can be assi gned.
System Setting Find that there are nine items, including System Informati o n, Syste m Setting , Trap Setting, Passwo rd Setting, S tatistics, Factory Reset, Backup S etting, Firmware Upload and System Reboot in System menu.
System Settin g The System Setting includes IP Info rmation and System information. There are two ways for the switch to attain IP: S tatic and DHCP (Dynamic Host Configur ation Protocol). When using static mode, the IP Ad dr ess, Subnet Mask and Ga teway can be manually configu red.
Trap Setting By configuring the Trap Settin g, it allows Web Management Utility to monitor specified even ts on this Web-Smart Switch. By default, Trap Setting is Disabled. When the Trap Setting is Enab led, enter the Destination IP address of the managing PC that will receive trap information.
Password Setting Setting a pa ssword i s a inval uable to ol for m anagers to se cure the We b Smart Switch. After ente ring the old pass word and the new password two tim es, press Apply fo r the changes t o take effect.
Refresh: To renew the details collected and displayed. Clear Counter: To reset the details displayed. T o view the stat istics of i ndivid ual ports, cli ck one of the Port ID as Figure . Figure 42. Port Statistics Factory Reset The Factory Reset helps you to reset the device back to the default setting from the factory.
Backup Settin g The backu p set ting hel p you t o backup t h e curre nt sett ing of t he Switch. Once you need to backup the settin g, press the “Backu p” button to sav e the setting.
System Reboot Provides to a safe way to reboo t the system. Ensur e the conf iguration has been sa ved, or all the c h anges y ou just m ade may be lost after system reboot. Figure 46. System Reboot Logout When press this function, the web co nfiguration will go back to first Login pa ge.
