T o learn more, here’s some helpful information about high-definition and your DI RE CTV H D Receiver . T ypes of T V Broadca sts Analog TV is the type of TV broadcast you may be most familiar with.

6 Reso luti on & In ter la ci ng T wo elements that determine the quality of a TV picture are: Re solut ion For TV equipment and broadcasts, resolution is defined by the number of horizontal lines displayed to make up eac h frame of a video image.
7 Aspec t Ra tio In addition to resolution and interlacing, a television picture is also defined by the aspect ratio of its broadcasts—referring to the shape of the screen as defined by the ratio of the screen’s width to its height. For analog TV , the aspect ratio is 4 units wide by 3 units high (usually written 4:3).
8 4 : 3 T V s sho win g 1 6 : 9 progra ms For a standard 4:3 TV showing a wide screen program, the program is too wide to fit on the screen. T o alleviate this, c hoose: Le tte r box W ith this format, the 16:9 image is shrunk until the entire width of the program fits on your TV .
