1 Wireless adapter configuration Introduction After your 802.1 1b wireless adapter is installed in your computer , you must configure it to communicate with the HomePortal. This guide describes how to configure the following wireless Ethernet (IEEE 802.
2 Agere ORiNOCO PC Card - Silver or Gold Consult the documentation provided with your wireless adapter to in stall the Agere ORiNOCO PC Card - Silver or Gold, then follow these steps: 1. From the Start menu, select Programs > ORi NOCO > Client Mana ger .
3 4. T o create your pr ofile, click Add . The Edit Configuration screen appear s. Enter a profile name in the Profile Name field. The profile name identifies you r wireless p rofile, and should be no more than 29 characters in length. 5. From the Network T ype pulldown menu, select Acces s Point .
4 8. Click Next . In the Set Security field, check the Enable Data Security ch eckbox. V erify that the Use Hexadecimal (0-9, a-f, A-F) radio button is selected. 9. In the Key field, enter yo ur ten-digit W ireless Encryption Key , located on the bottom of your HomePortal.
5 13. In the TCP/IP Behavior field, check the Renew IP Address wh en selecting this profile checkbox. 14. Click Finish . The following screen appears. 15.
6 Cisco Aironet Consult the documentation provided with your wireless card to instal l the Cisco Aironet adapter , then follow these steps: 1. Double-click the Aironet Client Utility icon on your desktop. The Aironet Client Utility screen appears. 2. Click the Profile Manager button.
7 6. Select the System Parameters tab. In the Client Name field, en ter a client name. The client name identifies your PC. 7. In the SSID1 field, enter the word “ 2W IRE ” followed by the last three dig its of your HomePortal serial number . This is the W ireless Netw ork Name.
8 13. Click OK . The Profile Manager screen appears. Y our pr ofile name should now ap pear in the second line of the Profile Management field, indicating that your Cisco ad apter is properly configured.
9 D-Link Air DWL-650 Consult the documentation provided with your wireless adapter to in stall the D-Link Air DWL-650, then follow these steps: 1. From the Start menu, select Programs > D- Link DWL-650 Contro l Utility > Config uration Utility .
10 3. Select the Configuration tab. 4. In the Mode field, enter Infrastruc ture . 5. In the SSID field, enter the word “ 2WIRE ” followed by the last three digits of your HomePortal serial number .

12 3. Select your wireless network name. Y our wireless network na me is “ 2WIRE ” followed by the last three digits of your HomePortal serial number , located on the bottom of your HomePortal. 4. In the Password field, enter “ $” followed by your ten-digit W irel ess Encryption Key , located on the bottom of your HomePortal.
13 3. Enable wireless security . Y our HomePortal is pre-co nfigured to take advantage of wireless security . Referring to the instructions provided with your wireless card, enable wireless security . W ireless security is sometimes referred to as WEP (wired equivalent privacy), 64 -bit encryption , or 40- bit encryption .
14 3. The Connect to W ireless Network screen appears. In the A vailable netw orks field, select your wireless access point. The wireless access point displays as “ 2WIRE ” in all capital letters , followed by the last three digits of the HomePortal serial number (located on the bottom of your Ho mePortal).
