2 1 About this Guide This guide provides instructions on how to use Express Setup to ini tially configure your Cataly st switch. Also covered are swit ch management options, basic rack-mounting, stacking guidelines , port and module connection procedures, and troubleshooting help.
3 3 Running Express Setup When you first set up the switch, you should use Express Setup to enter the i nitial IP inform atio n. Doing this enables the swit ch to connect to local ro uters and the Internet. Y ou can then acce ss the switch through the IP a ddress f or furthe r configuration.
4 Step 9 V erify that the LE Ds on bo th Ethernet ports are green. W ait 30 seconds. Step 10 Launch a web browser on y our PC. Enter the IP address 10.0.0.1 in the web browser , and press Enter . Step 11 The Express Setup Basic Se ttings page appears.
5 Refreshing the PC IP Address After you complete Express Setup, yo u should refresh the PC IP address: • For a dynamically assigned IP address, disconnect the PC from the switch, and reconnect the PC to the network. The network DHCP server assigns a new IP address to the PC.
6 4 Managing the Switch After you complete Express Setup and install the switch in your network, use the device manage r or other management options described in this section for further configuration. Using the Device Manager The simplest way to manage the switch is by using the devi ce manager in the switch memory .
7 Other Management Options Y ou can use SNM P management applications such as Cisc oW orks Small Network Management Solution (SNMS) and HP OpenV iew to configure and ma nage the switch. Y ou also can ma na ge it from an SNMP-compatible workstation that is running platforms such as HP OpenV iew or S unNet Manager .
8 Cabling Guidelines These illustrations show the recommended s witch stack configurations with redundant stack cabling connecti ons for optimized stack bandwidth. For more configuration examples, see the hardware installation guide on Cisco.com. In this example, the stack uses the 0.
9 6 Rack-Mounting This section covers basic 19-inch rack-mounting and switch por t conn ections. For alternate mounting procedures, such as installing the switch in a 24-inch rack or on a wall, and for additional cabling information, see the hardware installation gui de on Cisco.
10 Installation Warning Statements This section includes the basic installatio n warning statemen ts. T ranslations of these warning statements appear in the Regulatory Compliance and Safety Inform ation for the Catalyst 2975 Switch document on the documentation CD.
11 Attaching the Brackets Use two number -8 Phillips flat-head screws to atta ch the long side of each bracket to the swit ch in one of three mounting positions.
12 Rack-Mount the Switch Use the four number -12 Phillips machine scre ws to attach the brackets to the rack. Use the b lack Phillips machine screw to atta ch the cable guide to the left or right bracket.
13 Connect the Stack Cables Use the window in the stack cable to align the connector correctly . Insert the cable into the stack port on the back of the swi tch. Secure the screws tightly . Insert the othe r end of the cable into the connector of th e other switch, and secure the screws tigh tly .
14 Install SFP Modules and Conne ct to the Module Ports The switch Gigabit Ethernet SFP modules are used for c onnections to other devices. These modules are fie ld-replaceable, providing the uplink interfaces when inserted in an SFP module slot. Y ou can use any combination of SF P modules.
15 Resetting the Switch This section describes how to reset the sw itch by rerunning Express Setup. These ar e reasons why you m ight want to reset th e switch: • Y ou installed the switch in your network a nd cannot connec t to it because yo u assigned an incorrect IP address.
