10 Printer The printer is a receipt (one station) type thermal printer , and therefore it does not require any type of ink ribbon or cartridge. The average life of the printer is approximately 5 million lines. When removing the printer cover , lift up its rear .

14 ■ Inserting the keyboard sheet (XE-A217W/XE-A217B only) T wo types of keyboard sheets are installed on the cash register; one for ordinal use and one for text programming. Insert the keyboard sheet between the keyboard cover and the cabinet as illustrated below .

16 Displays ■ Operator display •Screenexample1(REGmode) Sales information area: When a transaction information occupies more than 2 lines, you can scroll to the direction by using the F I key s. Sales informa tion you have just entered such as items and prices will appear between the 1st and the 2nd line.
17 The display can be tilted back and forth to the best operational viewing angle. NOTE Do not try to force the display beyond its full position. ■ Customer display ■ Screen save mode When you want to save the electric power or save the display’s life, use the screen save function.
18 2 Selecting an Operating Mode When you turn the register on and press the m key , the mode selection window will appear on the display , listing available operating modes as shown below . 20 3 Prior to Making Entries Preparations for Entries ■ Receipt paper roll If the receipt paper roll is not set in the machine or it is getting low , install a new one according to section “Replacing the Paper Roll” under “Operator Maintenance”.
21 Item Selection from the Menu Y our register allows you to select functions from a menu. There are three menus available from the key selection on the keyboard; F , t and V .
22 HELP FUNCTION The help function allows you to print guidance messages for basic programming procedures of the cash register . ■ Printing the help menu Press the H key to print the help menu. This menu provides a list of the programming procedures for which you can print the guidance messages.
23 4 Entries Item Entries In this manual, the key description is given basically with the model XE-A217. For those with XE-A177/XE- A207, refer to the Function key list on page 1 1. ■ Single item entries Department entries (direct department entries) Enter a unit price and press a department key .

25 ■ Repeat entries The Repeat Entry function allows you to enter a sale of two or more of the same items. Y ou can simply press the department key , d , or p key to repeat entry .
26 ■ Multiplication entries Use this feature when you need to enter two or more of the same items. This feature helps you when you sell a large quantity of items or need to enter quantities that contain decimals.
27 ■ Split-pricing entries Y ou will use this function when your customer wants to purchase more or less than the base quantity of a loose item. 28 ■ Single item cash sale (SICS) • This function is useful when a sale is for only one item and is for cash; such as a pack of cigarettes. This function is applicable only to those departments that have been set for SICS or to their associated PLUs.
29 ■ PLU level shift (for direct PLUs) (for XE-A217W/XE-A217B only) This shift can double or triple the number of direct PLUs on your register without pressing additional direct PLU keys. Y ou can use direct PLUs in three levels by the PLU level shift keys Ò through ‹ .

31 Finalization of T ransaction ■ Cash or check tendering Press the z key to get an including-tax subtotal, enter the amount tendered by your customer , then press the A key if it is a cash tender or press the h key if it is a check tender .

34 Computation of V A T (V alue Added T ax)/T ax ■ V A T/tax system The cash register may be programmed for the following six V A T/tax systems. The cash register is pre- programmed as automatic V A T 1-4 system.

38 Auxiliary Entries ■ Percent calculations (premium or discount) • Y our register provides percent calculations for a subtotal or each item entry depending on the programming.
39 ■ Discount entries Y our register allows you to deduct a certain amount less than a programmed upper limit after the entry of an item or the computation of a subtotal depending on the programming.
40 ■ Printing of non-add code numbers Enter a non-add code number such as a guest code number within a maximum of 16 digits and press the z key at any point during the entry of a sale.

42 ■ No-sale (exchange) Simply press the A key without any entry . The drawer will open and the printer will print “NO SALE” on the receipt. If you let your machine print a non-add code number before pressing the A key , a no sale entry is achieved with a non-add code number printed.
43 TRAININGMode The training mode is used when the operator or the manager practices register operations. When a clerk set in training is selected, the register automatically enters the training mode, while a clerk not set in training is selected, the register automatically enters the ordinary REG mode.
44 5 Correction Correction of the Last Entry (Direct V oid) If you make an incorrect entry relating to a department, PLU/subdepartment, percentage ( ¡ , %2), discount ( - ), or item refund, you can void this entry by pressing the ~ key immediately .

49 7 Manager Mode The manager mode is used when managerial decisions must be made concerning register entries, for example, for overriding limitations and for other various non-programming managerial tasks. NOTE Normal register operations may also be performed in this mode.
50 8 Reading (X) and Resetting (Z) of Sales T otals • Use the reading function (X) when you need to take the reading of sales information entered after the last resetting. Y ou can take this reading any number of times. It does not affect the register ’s memory .

62 How to Program Alphanumeric Characters This section discusses how to program alphanumeric characters for various texts. ■ Mobile phone method (XE-A177/XE-A207W/XE-A207B only) Entering alphanumeric characters T o enter a character , simply press a corresponding character key on the programming keyboard.
63 ■ Entering character codes Numerals, letters and symbols are programmable by entering the º key and character codes. Use the following procedure with the cursor placed at the position where you want to enter characters: T o enter a digit, simply press a corresponding numeric key .

1 15 SD CARD Mode The register ’s data can be saved to the SD memory card, and the programming data can be loaded from the SD memory card. T o use the SD card function, select the “7 SD CARD MODE” in the mode selection window and perform the following operations.
