4 Indicator s The camera indicators light or blink under the following circu mstances. Upper Indica tor Lo wer Indica tor Never do the following w hile an indicator is blinking green.
5 1. Charging the Batte ry . Charge the battery b efore use under the following circumstances. • When using the battery for the f irst time. • When the "Chang e the battery pack." message displays. 1. Insert the b attery into the battery charger .
6 2. Inst alling the Battery . 1. Slide the memory card slot/b attery cover and open it ( a , b ). 2. Push the battery lock in t he direction of th e arrow ( c ) and insert the battery u ntil it locks. T o remove the battery , push the battery lock in th e direction of the arrow ( c ) and hold it while pulling the battery out.
7 T o R emo v e the Memor y Car d Push the memo ry card with your finger or the toggle on the wrist strap until the memory card clicks and then release it. Y ou can use SD memory cards, SDH C memory cards and MultiMediaCards with this camera. These cards are coll ectively called memory cards in this guide.
8 Fir st Time Settings Setting the Date/Time 1. Press the powe r button ( a ). 2. Use the or butto n to select an item and the or button t o change it s value ( b ). T o set the daylight sa ving option, select the icon and use the or button to configure the setting.
9 Setting the Display Langua ge 1. Slide the mo de switch to (playback). 2. Hold down the FUNC./SET button a nd press the MENU butto n. 3. Use the , , or butto n to select a langu age and press the FUNC./SET button. The display la nguage can also b e set in the Set up men u (p.
10 4. Focus an d shoot. 1. Press the shutter but ton halfway to focus. When the camera focuses, it beeps twice and the indicator lights green (orange when the flash fires). In addition, a green AF f rame appears in the LCD monitor on the portion of the image used to set the focus.
11 Selecting a Shooting Mode 1. Slide the mode switch to (Rec.) or (Movie) ( a ). 2. Press the FUNC./SET button ( b ) and use the or button ( c ) to select a shooting mode. For a scene mode (p. 12), select the mode (d efault setting) an d press the MENU button to select the desired mo de.
12 Shooting Modes St ill I mages Auto The camera automatically selects settings. Man ual Allows you to select setting s yourself , such as the ex posure compensation, white balance, my colors or ISO speed.
13 Movie Foliage Shoots tr ees and leaves — such as new growth, aut umn leaves or blossoms—in vi vid colors. Snow Shoots without a blue tinge and wi thout making people appear dark against a snowy background. Beac h Shoots wit hout making people appear dark n ear water or sand where refl ected sunlight is strong.

15 Shooting Close-Ups/Infinity Shots 1. Press the / button ( a ) and use the or button to switch between modes ( b ). T o C ancel: press the / button and use the or button to display (Normal). Macro Use this mo de to shoot c lose-u p s of fl owers or small items.
16 Using the Self-Timer 1. Press the button ( a ) and use the or button ( b ) to display , or . • When the shutter button is pressed fully , the self-timer will activate and the self-timer lamp w ill blink (when using red-eye reduction, it will stay lit for the last 2 second s).
17 Changing the Delay Time and Number of Shots ( ) 1. In the [ (Rec)] menu, selec t [Self-timer] and press the FUNC./ SET button. 2. Use the or button to select [Delay] or [Shot s] and the or button to change the setting and press the FUNC./SET button.
18 1. Slide the mode switch to (playback) ( a ). The last r ecorded image will display . Or if you have replayed images, the last image viewed will display (Resume Playback). If the memory card has been switched, or the imag es on the memory card have been edited w ith a computer , th e newest image on the memory card appears.
19 1. In the playback mode, use the or button to select an image to erase ( a ) and press the button ( b ). 2. Confirm tha t [Erase] is selected an d press the FUNC./SET button ( c ). T o e xit instead of erasing, se lect [Cancel]. Er asing Please note tha t erased images cannot be recovered.

24 The following meth ods can be used to download images recorded by the camera to a computer . Some methods, depending on the OS used, may not be available.

27 2. Connecting the camera to a computer . 1. Connect the supplied inte rface cable to the computer's USB port and to t he camera's DIGIT AL termina l. Use the toggle on the w rist strap or slip a fingernail under the edge of the camer a's DIGIT AL terminal co ver , lift up and plug the interface cable in all the w ay .
28 Do wnloading Images to a Computer A window allowing you to set the preferences will appear when a connection is established between the camera and computer . 1. Select [Canon CameraW indow] and click [OK] (fi rst time only). 2. Download the images.
29 Do wnloading Images to a Computer The following window will appe ar when you establish a con nection between the camera and computer . If it fails to appear , click the [Can on CameraW indow] icon on the D ock (the bar which ap pears at the bottom of the d esktop) .
30 Do wnlo ading Ima ges Using the Camer a (Dir ect T r ansf er) Use this method to download imag es using camera operations. Install the supplied sof tware and adjust the computer settings before using this method for the first time (p . 26). 1. Confirm that the Direct T ransfer menu is displayed on the camera's LCD monitor .
31 Select & T r ansf er/W allpaper 2. Select or and press the button (or the FUNC./SET button). 3. Select images to download and press the button (or the FUNC./SET button). • The images w ill download. The button will blink blu e while downloading is in progress.
