5 Preparatio ns 1. Installing th e batteries. 1. Slide the m emory card slo t/batte ry cover lock ( a ) and press down while op ening the co ver ( b ). 2. Insert the batteries. 2. Inserting the Memory Card. 1. Insert the memory card u ntil it clicks into pla ce.
6 To Remove the Memory Card Push the memory card with your finger un til the memory card clicks and then release it. You can use SD memory cards, SDHC memory car ds and Mu ltiMed iaCards with this c amera . These cards are collectively called memory cards in this guide.
7 Preparatio ns First Time Settings Setting t he Date/Time 1. Press the power button ( a ). 2. Use the or button to select an item an d the or button to change its valu e ( b ). 3. Confirm that the correct time is displayed a nd press the FUNC./SET bu tton ( c ).

The start-u p sound will pla y and the start-up image will display in the LCD monitor. • Pressing the power bu tton again turns the power off. • Pressing the power bu tton while pressing and hold ing the DISP. button will turn on the mute setting which will mute all sounds except for warning so unds.
9 Shooting 2. Press the s hutter b utton fully to shoo t. The shutter sound will play and the image will record. The indicator will blink green while the im age is recorded to the mem ory card. Reviewing an Image Right After Shooting After a shot is taken, the ima ge appears in the LCD monitor for approximately 2 seconds.

12 Using the Zoom 1. Press the or button. You can adjust the zoom for the following focal lengths in 35mm film equivalent terms. PowerShot A460: 38 – 152 mm PowerShot A450: 38 – 122 mm Telephot o: Zooms in on the subject. Wide Angle: Zooms out from th e subject.

14 Setting the Red-Eye Reduction Function You can set whether the camera automatica lly fires the r ed-eye reduction* lamp when the flash fires. * T his functio n reduces the red appearance of eyes when the y reflect lig ht back from the fla sh. 1.

16 Using the Self-Timer 1. FUNC. Menu * (Drive Mode) / / . * Defau lt sett ing . • When the shutter but ton is pressed fully, t he self-timer lamp w ill blink. When using re d-eye reduction, the self-timer lamp will blink and then stay lit for the last 2 seconds.

18 1. Turn the mod e dial to (playback) ( a ). The last r ecorded image will disp lay. If you have played back images between shooting sessions ho wever, the last image viewed will display (Resume Playback) instead of the last recorded image.

Slip your fingernail under th e edge of the camera’s terminal cover, lift it open and plug the interface cable in all the way.
28 Downloadin g Images to a Computer A window allowing you to set the preferences will appear when a connection is established betw een the camera and computer. 1. Select [Canon CameraWi ndow] and click [OK] (fi rst time only). 2. Download the images.
