5 Getting Started Back light Press g and f to turn on or turn off the back li ght. The back light can be used when you wish to see the display more cl early. The defa ult setting is ON. Power Supply The P-touch can be supplied with two or three power supply options.
6 Notes on th e AC adapter ☞ Only use the AC adapter designed e xclusivel y for thi s machine. ☞ Disconnect th e AC adapter if you do n ot intend to use this P-touch f o r an e xtended peri od of tim e. When th e power is discon nected, a ll text show n in the di splay and stored in the memory will be lost.
7 Getting Starte d ☞ Make sure that the b atteri es are inserted so that their poles po int in t he correct d ire ction. With batterie s installed, the P-touch de termines t he remaini ng battery charge dur ing printing and feeding. If a low battery c harge is de tected, t he low bat tery indi cator ( ) ) comes on.
8 Charging t he recharg eable batt ery pack Insert the pl ug on the AC adapter co rd into the connect or on the machi ne and insert the AC adapter pl ug into a standa rd electrical out let. While the recharg eable battery pack is char ging, the charging indi cator li ght lig hts up.

12 Turning the P-touch On/O ff Press o to turn on or turn off the P-touch. If the P -touch is powered by the AC adaptor or b atteries, th e previou s session’s text is displa yed when the P-touch is turned on agai n.
13 Label T ype Modes 2 2 Label Type Modes Selecting a Label Typ e Mode Pressing a allows you to s elect one of the two regu lar modes for d esigning and printing your own cu stom labels, or any o f the six spe cial modes a vailable for p rinting labe ls pre- formatted fo r identifying patch p anels, cables , connectors and other com ponents.
14 After selec ting the Label Ty pe mode NORMAL or VERTICAL , the l abel tex t can be entered, fo rmatted, printed and cut as usual. With the Normal Label Ty pe mo de, the entered text is printed horiz ontally alo ng the label. With the Vertical Label Type mo de, the ente red text is printed vertic ally al ong the label.
15 Label T ype Modes Flag Mode Labe ls printe d using this Label Ty pe mode can be wrap ped around ca ble or wire with the ends stuck toge ther to form a flag. W ith the FLAG Label Type mo de, eac h block of text is pri nted at bo th ends of sepa rate labels.
16 Port and Panel1 Modes Labels print ed using t hese La bel Type mod es can be us ed to ident ify vario us comp onents or panels . With the Port Label Type m ode, each block o f the text is printed on a separate la bel, mak ing these labels useful for identifying di fferent componen ts or ports that are not equally spaced .

45 Machine Adjustments Cleaning Occasiona lly, certa in parts o f the P-touch ma y need to be cleaned. Dust or dirt may become at tached to t he P-touch’s p rint head a nd rollers, pa rticularly wh en the unit is used ou tdoors or in a very dus ty envi ronment.

72 Starting up the P-touch Librar y You can start up the P-tou ch Library an d edit an d print la bels. 1 Click the [S tart] button, then choose [All programs (Programs)] - [Brother P- touch ] - [P-touc h Tools] - [P-touch Librar y 2.1]. The P-to uch Library s tarts up.

74 6 6 Appendix Resetting the P-touch You can reset the internal memory of your P-to uch when you want to cle ar all saved label file s, or in t he event th e P-touch is not wo rking pro perly. 1 Turn off the machine a nd then wh ile holdi ng down g and R , press o to turn the mach ine back on.
75 Appendi x The labe l is not printed after p ressing p . Has text been entere d? A labe l will not be printe d if ther e is no text enter ed. Is the tape c assette installe d correctly , and is there enou gh tape rema ining? Check tha t the tape casset te is installe d correctly , and that th ere is enough tape rem aining.
76 Error Message List Labe l files saved previou sly are now empty. Have th e batterie s and AC ada pter been disc onnected? All file s stor ed in the inte rnal memory are los t if the batt eries and AC adapter are disco nnected for longer than two minutes.
