5 C onnec ting the Modem To co nnect the Modem: 1. Ensure the co mputer is po wered do w n. 2. Plug the serial cable connected to the r ear panel of the Modem in the serial port on the computer . 3. Plug one end of the phone cable to the “Line ” port on the rear panel of the Mo dem, and the other end to the phone wall jack.

7 Installing the Sof twar e Af te r connecting the M odem to the comput er and the phone line, the driver soft- ware must be loaded on the c omputer . Select the operating system used, and fol- low the instructions.

29 Tr oubleshooting This section describes a few problems that may be enc ounter ed when using the Mo dem, and solutions to over come them. When I restart my computer , the Modem is not detected. Ensure the M odem is tur ned on, and the ser ial cable is connect ed properly t o a COM port on the computer , then restart the computer .

31 AT C ommands To access the M odem manually , use A T commands. A T c ommands can be sent to the Modem fr om a computer running a communications pr ogram.
