4 • Never operat e the mo wer in wet grass. Always be sure of your footing . A slip an d fall can c ause serious personal injury. Kee p a firm hold on the handle and walk, nev er run. If you feel y ou are losing y our footing, RELEASE THE BLA D E CONTROL HANDLE IMMEDIATELY an d the blade will stop rota ting within three sec onds.
5 • Keep all n uts, bolts, and s c rews ti ght to be s ure the equipme nt is in safe work ing cond ition. • Never ta mper with sa fety devic es. Check their proper operation regularly. • After str iking a foreign obje ct, stop the engin e, remove the wire from the spark plug, and thoroughly inspect the mower f or any damage .

7 SECTION 3: ASSEMBLING YOUR LAWN MOWER IMPORT ANT : This unit is sh ipped w ithout gasoli ne or oil in th e engine. Be cer tain to servi ce engin e with gasoli ne and o il as instru cted in the separ ate engi ne m anual before ope rating you r mower.
8 Removing Chute Retainer (Models 080 S eries) The chute deflector on yo ur mower is hel d in an upri ght position by a retaine r for ship ping purp oses on ly. Remove the r etainer, following steps below, before running the mower for the fir st time.
9 Figure 8 Recoil Starter The recoil starter is attached to the r ight low er handle. Stand be hind the unit an d pull th e recoil starter to start the unit. See Figure 8. Cutting Height Adjustment Lever These le vers are lo cated on each wheel and they are used to adju st the cut ting height.
10 Gas and Oil Fill-Up Servi ce the engine with gasoli ne and oil as inst ructed in the separ ate engine man ual packe d with your m ower. Read ins truc tions carefu lly. WARNING: Never fill fuel tank indoors with engine running or until the engine has been all owed to coo l for at l east two minutes after running.

To lower the he ight proc eed as follo ws: • Remo ve th e star ter ro pe fr om th e rope guid e. • Discon nect the hand le from the han dle bracket assembl ies by removin g the wing nuts .

13 The blade can be tested by balanci ng it on a round shaft screwdr iver. Remove metal from the heav y side until it bal ances eve nly. It is recomm ended tha t the blade always be removed fro m the adapter when testing for bal ance.
