Safety information 15 EJU30870 Hazard information ● Never start the engine or let it run for any length of time i n an enclosed area. Exhaust fumes contain carbon mon oxide, a color- less, odorless gas that may cause loss of consciou sness and death within a short time.

Safety information 17 EJU30943 Water-skiing You can use the watercraft for water-skiing if it has the seating capacity to carry the op era- tor, a rearward-facing spotter, and the w ater- skier when he or she is not skiing. The watercraft mus t also have a cleat de- signed to pull a ski rope; do not attach the rope to any other location.
Safety information 18 Make sure that the rope is not looped around anything. After checking that the skier is ready and that there is no traffic or other obstacles, ap - ply enough throttle to raise the skier. ● Make smooth, wide turns. The watercraft is capable of very sharp turns, which could ex- ceed the abilities of the skier.
Safety information 19 Give-way vessel The vessel which does not have the right-of- way has the duty to take positive and timely action to stay out of the way of the stand-on vessel. Normally, you shou ld not cross in front of the vessel with the right-of-way.
Safety information 20 provided the other vessel gives you the rig ht- of-way as it should. Overtaking If you are passing another vess el, you are the give-way vess el. This means that the other vessel is exp ected to maintain its co urse and speed. You must stay out of its way until you are clear of it.

This system uses buoys and signs with dis- tinctive shapes and colors to show regulatory or advisory information.

Control function operation 30 EJU31024 Watercraft control functions EJU41370 Remote control tra nsmitter (VX Deluxe / VX Cruiser) The Yamaha Security System and Low RPM Mode settings c an be selected by operating the remote control transmi tter.

Control function operation 32 TY” indicator light blinks two or three times, then comes on. This indicates the un lock mode is selected. EJU31152 Engine stop switch “ ” The engine stop switch (red b utton) stops the engine when the sw itch is pushed.
Control function operation 33 in 5 seconds, release the start switch, wait 15 seconds, and then try again. NOTICE: Never push the start switch while the engine is running. Do not operate the start switch for more than 5 seconds, otherwise the battery will be discharged and the engine will not start.
Control function operation 34 Since the strength of the jet thrust determines the speed and de gree of a turn, throttle must always be applied when attempting a turn, ex- cept at trolling speed. This model is equipped with the Yamaha En- gine Management System (YEMS) that in- cludes an off-throttle s teering (OTS) system.
Control function operation 35 To drain water from the water separator: (1) Place a drain pan or dry cloth under the water separator. (2) Gradually loosen the drain screw to drain the water. Catch the draining water in the drain pan or s oak it up w ith the dry cloth so that it does not spill into the engine compartment.

Watercraft operation 37 EJU40000 Watercraft operation modes EJU31417 Low RPM Mode (VX D eluxe / VX Cruis er) The Low RPM Mode is a function tha t limits the maximum engine s peed to approximately 90% of the maximum engine speed in the nor- mal mode.
Watercraft operation 38 “ L-MODE ” indicator light will come on when the engine is started. To deactivate the Low RPM Mode: Push the “ L-Mode ” (unlock) button on the re- mote control transmitter for more than 4 sec- onds.
Instrument operation 39 EJU31458 Multifunction information cent er The multifunction information center disp lays various watercraft information. Multifunction information center initial op- eration When the multifunction information center is activated, all of the display segm ents come on.
Instrument operation 40 TIP: “ mph ” is selec ted as the display unit at the Yamaha factory. To switch the speedometer display units: Push the select button for at least 1 second, within 10 seconds after the multifunction infor- mation center is activ ated.
Instrument operation 41 To switch to the hour meter from the voltme- ter: Push the select button for at least 1 second af- ter the multifunction information center is acti- vated for more than 10 s econds. The display switches to the hour meter from the voltmeter.

Equipment operation 45 (2) Push the rear of the seat dow n to secure- ly lock it in place. EJU31362 Handgrip The handgrip is us ed when boarding the wa - tercraft from the water and w hen the spotter is facing rearward. WARNING! Do not use the handgrip to lift the water craft.

EJU34881 Ster n eyes The stern eyes are used to attach a rope to the watercraft when transporting or mooring it. Equipment operation 47 To open the bow storage comp artment: Pull the hood latch up, and then lift up the rear of the hood. To close the bow storage compartment: Push the rear of the hood down to se curely lock it in place.

To close the glove compa rtment: Push the lid down to securely lock it in pl ace. EJU41420 Beverage holder (VX Deluxe / VX Cruiser) The beverage holder is located in the glove compartment.
Equipment operation 49 To use the fire ex tinguisher holder and co ver: (1) Pull the ho od latch up, and then lift up the rear of the hood. (2) Unhook the ba nd and remove the fire ex- tinguisher cover. (3) Place the fire extinguisher in the holder, and then p lace the cov er over the fire ex- tinguisher.
Operation and handling requirements 50 EJU31822 Fuel requirements EJU37165 Fuel W ARNI NG EWJ0028 2 ● Gasoline and gasoline vapors are ex- tremely flammable. To avoid fires and explosions and to reduce the risk of in- jury when refueling, follow these in- structions.
Operation and handling re quirements 51 (6) Stop filling when the fuel level reaches approximatel y 50 mm (2 in) from the top of the fuel tank. Do not overfill the fuel tank. Because fuel expands when it heats up, heat from the en gine or the sun can cause fuel to spil l out of the fuel tank.
Operation and handling requirements 52 ● When checking the engine oil level on wa- ter, moor the watercraft so that it will not drift away. To check the engine oil lev el: (1) With the engine stopped, place the water- craft in a precisely level posi tion on land or launch the watercraft.

First-time operation 55 EJU32785 Engine break-in NOT ICE ECJ00431 Failure to perform the engine break-in could result in reduced engine life or even severe engine damage. The engine break-in is ess ential to allow the various compon ents of the engine to wear and polish th emselves to the correct operat- ing clearances.

EJU32455 Bilge water check Make sure that no bilge water has c ollected in the engine compartment. If bilge water has collected in the engine compartment, drain it.

Turn the handlebars as far as possible to the right and left to make sure that the jet thrust nozzle moves as the handlebars are turned, and that there is no difference between the right and left fully turned positions of the jet thrust nozzle.
Pre-operation checks 61 Operate the sh ift lever several times to make sure that operation is smooth thr oughout the whole range. Also, mak e sure that the reverse gate moves up and down acc ording to the op- eration of the shift lever and that the gate makes contact with the stoppers.

Consult a Yamaha dealer about any control or func- tion that you do not fully understand. Fail- ure to understand how the controls work could cause an accident or prevent you from avoiding a n accident.
Operation 66 EJU40210 Riding position Operator riding position The operator should grip the handlebars firm- ly with both hands and s it astride the seat with both feet on the floor of the footwell.
Operation 67 is attached correctly. If the engine shut-off cord (lanyard) is not attached correctly, it may not pull free when the operator falls off, allowing the water- craft to continue to run and cause an accident. [EWJ 00581] (4) With the throttle lever relea sed, push the start switch (green button) to start the en- gine.
Operation 68 throttle lever is in the fully closed (idle) posi- tion. VX Deluxe / VX Cruiser: When the shi ft lever is i n the forward position and the engine is running, the watercraft will move forward. The watercraft will move for- ward at trolling speed even if the throttle lever is in the fully clos ed (idle) position.
Operation 69 B. Less throttle produces lower thrust, so the watercraft will turn more gradually. C. Releasing the throttle lever completely produces only minim um thrust. If you are traveling at speeds above trolling, you will have rapidly decreas ing ability to steer without throttle.
Operation 70 soon as the throttle lever is rele ased, but will coast for a distance b efore fully stopping. If you are not sure you can st op in time before hitting an obstacle, apply throttle and turn in another direction. W ARNI NG EWJ0074 4 ● Allow adequate stopping distance.

Operation 75 remove the clip from the engine shut-off switch. ● Do not put your hands in the intake grate. If the watercraft caps izes, turn it over immedi - ately. To upright the watercraft: (1) Remove the clip from the engine shut-o ff swi tch. (2) Swim to the rear of the watercraft.
Operation 76 (2) Release the throttle lever to reduce speed about 100 m (330 ft) before you reach the intended beaching area. (3) Slowly approach the beach and stop the engine just before reaching land. WARNING! You need thrott le to steer. Shutting the engine off can cause you to hit an obstacle you are att empting to avoid.
Care and stor age 77 EJU37145 Post-operation care W ARNI NG EWJ0033 0 Always place the watercraft upright in a horizontal position when storing it, other- wise fuel could leak out into the engine or engine compartment, which could create a fire hazard.
Care and storage 78 flows out continually from the jet thrust nozzle. (7) Run the engine at idling speed for about 3 minutes watchi ng the engine condition. If the engine stops w hile flushing, turn the water supply o ff immediately and perform the procedure again from step 6.
Care and stor age 79 Antidotes External: Flush with water. Internal: Drink l arge quantities of water or milk. Follow with milk of m agnesia, beaten egg, or vegetable oil. Call a physician im - mediately. Eyes: Flush with w ater for 15 minutes and get prompt medical attention.
Care and storage 80 Checking the battery bands Make sure that the battery ban ds are not damaged. To store the battery: (1) Clean the battery cas e using fresh water. (2) If the battery terminals are dirty or corrod- ed, clean them using a wire brush.

Trouble recove ry 92 (2) Loosen the cap on the electrical box and remove it. (3) Replace the blown fuse with the spare fuse of the correct amperage by using the fuse puller on the reverse side of the cap. WARNING! Do not use fuses of a dif- ferent amperage than recommended.
Trouble recovery 93 If the fuse immedia tely blows again, the elec- trical system may be defective. If this occurs, have a Yamaha dealer service the watercraft.
