4-1 4 EAU01114 4 - PRE-OPERATION CHECKS The condition of a vehicle is the owner ’ s responsibility. Vital components can start to deteriorate quickly and une xpectedly, even if the vehicle remains unused (for example, as a result of expo sure to the elements).

Since heat and deposits will cause any spark plug to slowly erode, the spark plug should be removed and checked in accordance with the periodic mainte- nance and lubrication chart.

Clean the surface of the spark plug gasket and its mating sur- face, and then wipe off any grime from the spark plug threads.

Place an oil pan under the engine to collect the used oil. 3. Remove the engine oil filler ca p and drain bolts to drain the oil from the crankcase.

PERIODIC MAINTENANCE AND MINOR REPAIR 6-12 6 4. Remove the oil filler cap and drain bolt to drain the oil from the final transmission case. 5. Install the final transmission oil drain bolt, and then tighten it to the specified torque.

If there is play in the wheel hub or if the wheel does not turn smoothly, have a Yamaha dealer check the wheel bearings.
