Installation 3–10 Installing the Remot e On/Off Switch The remote switch le ts you tur n the Prowatt 1000 on and of f f rom a convenie nt locat ion — up to 20 fee t (6 m) aw ay from the i nvert er — while the invert er is mo unted out o f sight a nd close t o the batt eries.
Connecting the Chass is Ground 3–11 Connecting the Chassis Ground The PROwatt 1 000 has a sc rew termina l labeled CHASSIS GND on the outside of the re ar pan el as shown i n Figure 3-4 . Follow the g uideline s in “ Groundin g Locations ” to conne ct the in verter ’ s chassis t o the gro und.

Operating Limits 4–5 Operati ng Limits Powe r Out put The Prowat t 1000 will deliver up t o 1000 watts or 8 amps co ntinuousl y , dependin g on inpu t voltage and ambient temperat ure. The 1000 watt capabil ity is reach ed when ambient temper ature is le ss than 68 º F (20 º C) and input voltage is between 12 and 13 vol ts.
Operation 4–6 Inverter Lo ads The PROwatt 1 000 will ope rate most AC loads with in its po wer ratin g (1000 wat ts / 8 amps) . However , s ome applian ces and equ ipment may be dif ficult to opera te, and oth er applia nces may act ually be damaged if yo u try to o perate them wi th the PROwatt 1000.

B Battery Types and Sizes The batteries you use strongly affect the performance of the Prowatt 1000. It is important to connect the inverter to the correct size and t ype of battery . The informati on in Appendix B will help you select, connect, and maintain batteries that are most appropriate for your application.

C Alternators and Charging Systems A good charging syst em is important for the health of your batteries. Poor recharging methods can quickly damage them. Appendix C provides guidelines for rechargi ng batteries from an alternator , from AC power , and from alternate energy sources.
