Positioning your projector 18 Obtaining a pr efer red pr ojected image size The projected image size is determined by th e distance from the pr ojector lens to the screen, the zoom setting, and the video format.
Positioning your projector 19 There is 5% tolerance among these number s due to optical compon ent variations. BenQ recommends that if y ou intend to permanently inst all the pr ojector , y ou should .
Positioning your projector 20 Shifting the pr ojection lens The lens shift control pro vides flexibility for insta lling your pr ojector . It allows the projector to be positioned off the center of the screen. The lens shift is expressed as a percentage of the projected image half height.
Connection 21 Connection When connecting a sig nal source to the pr ojector , be sure to: 1. T urn all equipment off bef ore making an y connections. 2.
Connection 22 HDMI connecti on HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Inte rface) supports uncompressed video data transmission between compatible devices lik e DTV tuners, D VD pla yers, Blu-ra y pla y ers and displa ys ov er a single cable . Y ou should use an HDMI cable when making a connection between the pr ojector and HDMI devices.
Connection 23 Smar t devices connection The projector can pr oject the content directl y from a MHL compatible smart device. Using an HDMI to Micr o USB cable or an HDMI to Micr o USB adaptor , you can connect your smart devices to the projector and then enjo y your content on the big screen.

Connection 27 Computer/PC connection • Many notebooks do not turn on their external video por ts when connected to a projector . Usually a k ey combo lik e FN + F3 or CR T/LCD k e y turns the external di splay on/off. Locate a function ke y labeled CR T/LCD or a function key with a monitor symbol on the not ebook.
Connection 28 Connecting video sour ce de vices Y ou need only connect the pr ojector to a video source device using just one of the connecting methods, howe ver each pr ovides a differ ent lev el of video quality .
Connection 29 Pla ying sound thr ough the pr ojector Y ou can mak e use of the projector (mix ed mono ) speaker in y our presentations, an d also connect separate amplif ied speakers to the AUDIO OUT sock et of the pr ojector .
Operation 30 Operation Star ting up the pr ojector 1. Plug the power cor d into the proje ctor and into a wall socket. T urn on the wall socket switch (where f itted). Check that the PO WER indicator light on the projector lights orange after power has been applied.
Operation 31 4. If you are pr ompted for a password, pr ess the arrow k eys to enter a six digit passw ord. See "Utilizing the passw ord function" on page 41 for details. 5. Switch all of the connected equipment on. 6. The projector will start to search for input signals.
Operation 32 Adjusting the pr ojected image Adjusting the pr ojection angle The projector is equipp ed with 1 quick-release adjuster foot and 2 r ear adjuster foot. These adjusters change the ima ge height and projection angle. T o adjust the projector : 1.
Operation 33 Fine-tuning the imag e siz e and clarity 1. Adjust the projecte d image to the size that you need us ing the ZOOM ring. 2. Then sharpen the image by r otating the FOCUS ring. Corr ecting k e ystone K e ystoning ref ers to the situ ation wher e the pr ojected image is noti ceably wider at either the top or bottom.
Menu Functions 34 Menu Functions About the OSD Menus T o let you make various adjustments or setting s on the projector and the pr ojected image , the projector is equipped with 2 types of multilingual On-Screen Displa y (OSD) menus: • Basic OSD menu: pr ovides primar y menu functions.
Menu Functions 35 If you intend to s witch from the Basic OSD menu to the Advanced OSD menu, follow the instructions below: Use the arro w k eys ( ▲ / ▼ / ◄ / ► ) on the projector or remote contr ol to mov e through the menu items, and use OK to confirm the selected menu it em.
Menu Functions 36 Using the Basic OSD menu Depending on whether or not any video signal is connected to the pr ojector , the Basic OSD menu offers different a vailable functions.
Menu Functions 37 Vo l u m e Adjusts the volume le vel of the pr ojector's internal speak er or the volume being output from the audio outpu t jack. If the Mute function is activated, adjusting V olume will t urn off the Mute function. The function is accessible t hrough the r emote cont rol.
Menu Functions 38 • Auto Sour ce Sets whether the pr ojector search es automaticall y for inpu t sources . Select On to enable the projector to scan for input sources until it acquires a signal. If the function is set to Off , the pr ojector s elects the last used input source .
Menu Functions 39 Basic OSD menu - without input signals connected As there’ s no input signal to y our projecto r , only the submenus of Settings under Basic OSD menu - with input signals connected ar e a v ailable. Menu options that are not a vailable will become gray ed out.
Menu Functions 40 Using the Advanced OSD menu The Advanced OSD menu offers complete menu functions. The Advanced OSD menu ov er view abo ve is for re fer ence only and ma y differ from the actual design and the projector model you ar e using. T o access the OSD menu, press MENU on the pr ojector or remote control.
Menu Functions 41 Securing the pr ojector Using a security cable lock The projector has to be installed in a safe pl ace to prevent theft. Otherwise, purchase a lock, such as a K e nsington lock, to secur e th e projector . Y ou can locate a K ensington lock slot on the left side of the projector .
Menu Functions 42 If y ou forg et the passw ord If the passw ord function is activated, you will be ask ed to enter the six-digit password e very time you turn on the projector .
Menu Functions 43 Changing the passw or d T o do this, first and foremost, you ha ve to access the Advan ced OSD menu (see "About the OSD Men us" on page 34 for details). 1. Open the OSD menu and go to the System Setup: Advanced > Pa s sw o rd > Change pass word menu.
Menu Functions 44 Switching input signal The projector can be connected to multiple de vices at the same time . Howe ver , it can only displa y one full screen at a time . Menu Functions 45 Pictur e menu Submenu Functions and Descriptions Picture Mode Selects a preset picture mode to suit yo ur operating envir onment and input signal picture t ype. The preset p icture modes ar e described as below: • Bright: Maximizes the brightness of the pr ojected image.
Menu Functions 46 Brightness Adjusts the bright ness of the pictur e. Wh en adjusting this control, the black ar eas of the picture appear just as black an d details in the dark ar eas are visible. The higher the value, the brighter th e picture, while the low er the value, the darker the pictur e.
Menu Functions 47 Lamp Po wer Selects the projector lamp po wer fr om the following modes. • Normal: Provides full lamp brightness. • Economic: Reduces system noise and po wer consumptio n by 30%. • SmartEco: Redu ces system noise and lamp power consump tion by up to 70%.
Menu Functions 48 Advanced... • Color Management In most installation si tuations, color man agement will not be ne cessar y , such as in classroom, meeting r oom, or lounge room situations wher e lights r emain on, or where building external windo ws allow da ylight into the room.
Menu Functions 49 Film Mode Enhances pictur e quality when pr ojecting composite image fr om a film sourced D VD or Blu-ra y Disc. Setting Off disables the function. Reset Cur rent Picture Mode All of the adjustments y ou’v e made for the selected Pi cture Mode (including preset modes, User 1 , and User 2 ) return to the factory preset values.

The following pr eset sound modes are p rovide d: Standard , Cinema , Music , Spor t , and User . When selecting the User mode, you ma y make manual adjustmen ts with the User EQ function.

Backgroun d Color Sets the backgr ound color wh en ther e is no signal to the projector . Splash Screen Allows y ou to select which log o screen displa ys during projecto r start-up.
Menu Functions 54 System Setup : Advanced menu Submenu Functions and Descriptions Reset Lamp Timer Activates this func tion only after a ne w lamp is installed. When you select Reset , a "Reset Successfull y" message displays to notify that the lamp time has been reset to "0".

Or you can pr ess PO WER on the pr ojector and a warning messag e appears. Press PO WER ag ain. 2. Once the cooling process f inishes, the PO WER indicato r light is a stead y orange and fans stop.

Maintenance 61 Maintenance Car e of the pr ojector Y our projector needs little maintenance. The on ly thing y ou need to do on a regular bas is is to keep th e lens clean. Nev er remov e any parts of the projector except the lamp . Contact your dealer if other parts need replacing.
Maintenance 62 T ransporting the projector It is recommended that you ship the pr ojecto r with its origina l packing or equivalent. Lamp information Getting to kno w the lamp hour When the projector is in operation, the durati on (in hours) of lamp usage is automatically calculated by the built-in timer .
Maintenance 63 Timing of r eplacing the lamp When the Lamp indicat or lights up red or a messag e appears suggestin g it is time to replace the lamp , please install a new lamp or consult your dealer . An old lamp may cause a malfunction in the pr ojector and in some instances the lamp may explode.
Maintenance 64 Replacing the lamp • If lamp replacement is performed while the projector is suspended upside-do wn from the ceiling, make su re that no one is underneath the lamp socket to av oid any possib le injur y or damage to the human ey es caused b y fractured lamp.
Maintenance 65 10. Restart the projector . Do not turn the power on wi th the lamp cover r emov ed. 5. Lift the handle s o that it stands up. Use the handle to slowly pull the lamp out of the projector . • Pulling it too quickly may cause the lamp to break and scatter brok en glass in the projector .
