17 Connection English Connecting a mo nitor If you want t o view your presentation close-up on a monit or as well as on the screen, y ou can connect the D-SUB OUT sig nal out put so cket on the p rojec tor to a n ex ternal mon itor w ith a V GA or V GA to DVI-A c able by following the instructions below .

19 Connection English Connecting a HDMI sourc e de vice The project or provides a HDMI input socket that allows y ou to connect it to a HDMI source dev ice like a DVD play er , a DTV tuner or a display .
20 Connection English Connecting a D VI-D sourc e dev ice The project or provides a DVI-D input socket that allows you to c onnect it to a DVI-D sour ce device like a DVD play er . DVI- D format is us ed to dir ectly carry a digital signal to a dig ital display without signal conv ersion.
21 Connection English Connecting a Component V ideo source dev ice Examine your V ideo source device to dete rmine if it has a set of unused Component V ideo output sockets available: • If so , you can con tinue with this procedure. • If not, you will need to reassess which method you can use t o connect to the device.
22 Connection English Connecting an S-Video or a composite V ideo source device Examine your V ideo source device to det ermine if it has an unused S-Vi deo or Video output sock et available: • If it has both sock ets, use the S-V i deo output socket for connection as the S-V ideo terminal provides better picture quality than the V ideo terminal.

24 Operation English U sing the On-Screen Displa y (OSD) menus The projector is equipped with On-Screen Displa y (O SD) menus for making various adjustment s and settings. Below is the ov er view of the OSD menu. T o use the OSD men us, please set the OSD menu to your familiar language first.
25 Operation English U tilizing the password function For security purposes and to help prevent unauthorized use, the pr ojector includes an option for setting up password security .

27 Operation English S w itching input signal The project or can be connected t o multiple devices at the same time. H owever , it can only display one full screen at a time. Whe n star ting up, the pr ojector au tomatically search for the available signals.

29 Operation English Cor rect ing ke ystone K eystoning refers t o the situation wh ere the pr ojected image is noticeably wider at either the t op or bottom.
30 Operation English Selectin g the as pect ratio The 'aspect ratio' is the r atio of the image width to th e image height. Most analog TV and computers ar e in 4:3 ratio, and digital TV and DVDs are usually in 16:9 ratio .
31 Operation English Optimizing the i mage Us i n g W a l l C o l o r In the situation where y ou are projectin g onto a colored surface suc h as a painted wall which may not be whit e, the W all Color feature can help correct the project ed picture’ s color to preven t possible color differe nce between the source and projected pictures.
32 Operation English Setting the User 1/User 2 mode There ar e two user-d efinable modes if the current availabl e picture modes are not suitab le for your need. Y ou can use one of the pictur e modes (ex cept the User 1/2 ) as a start ing point and customize the settings.
33 Operation English Ad justing Brilliant Color Hi ghligh t Brilliant Color in the PICTURE menu and select by pressing / on the projector or remote contro l. This feature utilizes a new color -proc essin g algorit hm and sy stem level en hancements to enabl e hig her br ight ness while providing truer , more v ibrant colors in picture.
34 Operation English Please refer t o the illustra tion to the right for how the colors rela te to each oth er . For e xample, if you select R ed and set its range at 0, onl y pure red in the pr ojected picture will be selected. Incr easing its range will include red close to y ellow and red close to magenta.

37 Operation English Locking control k eys W ith the control k eys on the projector locked, y ou ca n prevent your pr ojector setting s from being changed accidentally (by children, for e xample). When the Panel Key Lock is on, no control k eys on the projector will opera te except Power .
38 Operation English Cr eating your o w n star tup screen In addition to selecting the projecto r preset star tup sc reen fr om among BenQ logo, Black or Blue screen, y ou can make y our own star tup screen that is a picture projected fr om your computer or video sourc e.
39 Operation English Setting the lamp mode This projector is capable of dual-lamp projection an d pr ovides three lamp modes for different purposes: Y o u can perform the following steps t o choose a lamp mode accor ding to your preferenc e. 1. Pr ess MENU/EXIT and then press / until the SYSTEM SETUP: Advanced men u is h ighli ghted .
40 Operation English Shutting down the projector 1. Pr ess Po w e r and a confirmation mess age displays prompting yo u. If yo u don't respond in a few seconds, the message w ill disappear . If you want to cancel the message, press any k ey except PAGE / a n d LA SER on the re mote cont rol.
41 Operation English On-Screen Displa y (OSD) M enus Me n u s t r u c t u re Please note that the on-screen displa y (OSD) menus vary accor ding to the signal typ e selected. Some function s are a vailable only when certain input signals are in use. The menu items are a vailable when the projector detects at least one valid signal.

46 Maintenance English M aintenanc e Care of the pr ojector Y o ur project or needs little maintenanc e. The only thing you n eed t o do on a r egular basis is to keep the lens cl ean. Nev er remov e any parts of the pr ojector exc ept the lamp. C ontact your dealer if other parts need replacing.
47 Maintenance English Extending lamp life The projection lamp is a consumable it em that norma lly can last up to 2000-3000 hours with proper usage. T o keep the lamp life as long as possible, y ou can do the following settings via the OSD me nus.
48 Maintenance English Re p l a c i n g th e la m p • T o reduce th e risk of electrical shock, always turn the p rojector off and disconn ect the power cord before changing the l amp. • T o reduce th e risk of severe burns, allow the projector t o cool for at least 45 minutes b efore replacing the lamp.
49 Maintenance English 7. Lift the handle so that it stands up. U se the handle to slowly pull the lamp out of the projector . Pulling it too quickly may cause the lamp to break and scatter broken glass in th e projector . Do not place the lamp in loca tions where water might splash on it, ch ildren can reach it, or near flammable materials.
