Howev er , to ensur e safe use of this product, it is important that you follow the instructions mentioned in th is manual and mark ed on the pr o duct.

Introduction 12 Remote contr ol effective range The remote contr ol must be held at an angle within 30 degrees perp endicular to the projector's IR r emote control sensor(s) to function corr ectly . The distance between the rem o te co n tro l an d t h e s en so r (s ) s h ou ld not exceed 8 meters (~ 26 feet).
Positioning your project or 13 P ositioning y our projector Choosing a location Y our projector is designed to be installed in one of four possible in stallat ion locations: Y our room la yout or personal prefer ence will dictate which installation locatio n you select.
Positioning your project or 14 Obtaining a pr eferr ed pr ojected image size The distance from the projector lens to the screen, the zoom setting, and the video format each factors in the p rojected image size.

Operation 17 Operation Star ting up the pr ojector 1. Plug the power cor d into the projector and into a powe r outlet. T urn on the power outlet switch (where fitted). Check that the PO WER indicator light on t he projector lights orange after pow er has been applied.
Operat ion 18 Adjusting the p r ojected image Adjusting the pr ojection angle The projector is equipp ed with 1 adjuster foot. It changes the image heigh t and pr ojection angle. T o adjust the projector , screw the adjuster f oot to fine- tune the horizontal angle.
Operation 19 Corr ecting k eystone K eystoning r efers to the situation where the pr ojected image is noticeably wider at either the top or bottom. It occurs when the pr o j ector is not perpendicular to the screen. T o corr ect this, you will need to manually corr ect it following ONE of these steps.
Operat ion 20 Using the menus The projector is equipp ed with On-Scr een Displa y (OSD) menus for making various adjustment s and settings. Th e O SD s cre ens ho ts bel ow a re fo r re fere nce on ly , and may diff er from the actual design. Below is the ov erview of the OSD menu.
Operation 21 Securing the pr ojector Using a security cable lock The projector has to be installed in a safe pl ace to prev ent theft. Otherwise , purchase a lock, such as the K e nsington lock, to secur e the pr ojector . Y ou can locate a K ensington lock slot on the rear side of the pr ojector .
Operat ion 22 the passw o rd r ecall procedure. See "Entering the passw ord recall pr ocedure" on page 22 for details. If you enter an incorr ect pa ssw o rd 5 times in succession, the pr o jector will automatically shut down in a short time.
Operation 23 Press to highlight Power On Lock and press / to select Off . Y ou will not ha ve to enter the passw ord next time when turning on the pr ojector . ii. If the password is incorr ect, the password er ror message appears lasting for three seconds, and the message “INPUT P A SSW ORD ” appears for your retry .
Operat ion 24 Magnifying and sear ching for details If you need to find th e details on the projected pictur e , magnify the pictur e. Use the direction ar ro w ke ys for na vigating the picture. • Using the remote control 1. Press Digital Zoom+/- to display the Zoom bar .
Operation 25 About the aspect ratio • In the pictures below , the black portions are inac tive ar eas and the white por tions are activ e areas. • OSD menus can be display e d on those unused black ar eas. 1. Auto : Scales an image proportionally to fit the projector's nativ e resolution in its horizontal or vertical width.
Operat ion 26 Optimizing the image Using W all Color In the situation wher e you ar e pr ojecting on to a colo red surf ace such as a painte d wall which ma y not be white, the W all Color featur e can help correct the pr ojected picture’ s colors to pre vent possible color difference betw een the sour ce and projected pictur es.

Operation 29 Please ref er to the illustration to the right for how the colors relate to each other . For example, if you select Red and set its range at 0, only pur e red in the projected picture will be selected. Incr easing its range will include red close to yello w and red close to magenta.

Operation 31 Hiding the image In order to dra w the audience's full attention to the pr esenter , you can use EC O BLANK on the projector or r emote control to hide the screen image. When this function is activated with an audio input connected, the audio can still be heard.
Operat ion 32 symptoms. Howe ver , this is not to state that this projector can operate under any and all harsh or extreme conditions. Adjusting the soun d The sound adjustments made as below will ha ve an effect on the projector speak er(s). Be sure y ou hav e made a correct connect ion to the pr ojector audio input.
Operation 33 Using the teaching templates The pr ojector provides sev eral preset patterns f or various teaching purposes. T o activate the pattern: 1. Open the OSD menu and go to the DISP LAY > Teaching Template and press / to select Blackboard or Wh iteboard .
Operat ion 34 Shutting down the pr ojector 1. Pr ess POWER a nd a confirmation message will displa y prompting you. If you don't respond in a f ew seconds, the message will disappear .

Operat ion 40 Function Description Picture Mode Pre-de fined pictur e modes are pr ovided so you can optimize y our projector image set-up to su it your program type.
Operation 41 Function Description Presentation Timer Reminds the presenter to fi nish the presentation within a certain time frame. See "Setting the presentation timer" on page 29 for details. Language Sets the language for the On-Screen Displa y (OSD) menus.

Maintenance 45 Maintenance Car e of the projector Y our projector needs little maintenance. The on ly thing you need to do on a r egular basis is to keep th e lens and case clean. Ne ver rem ove a ny pa r ts o f t he p roj ec to r . Contact your dealer if other parts need rep l ac in g.
Maintenance 46 Lamp information Getting to know the lamp hour When the projector is in operation, the durati on (in hours) of lamp usage is automatically calculated by the built-in timer . T o obtain the lamp hour information: 1. Press MENU/EXIT and then pr ess / to hi ghlight the SYSTEM SETUP: Advanced menu.
Maintenance 47 Timing of r eplacing the lamp When the Lamp indicat or lights up r ed or a message appears suggesting i t is time to replace the lamp , please consult your dealer or go to http://lamp.benq.co m bef o re installing a new lamp . An old lamp may cause a malfunct ion in the pr ojector and in some instances the lamp ma y explode.
