Positioning your projector 19 Ob taining a preferred pr ojec ted image size The distance from the project or lens to the sc reen, the zoom se tting , and the video for mat each factors in the projected image size. The maximum (nativ e) resolution of the projector is 1024 x 768 pixels, which is a 4 to 3 aspect ratio (expr essed as 4:3).

Connection 23 T o connect the pr ojector to a notebook or desktop c omputer (either through a VG A c a b l e o r VG A t o D V I - A c a b l e ) : The final connection path should be like that shown in the following diagr am: • Many notebooks do not turn on their external video ports when connected to a projector .
Connection 24 Connecting a monitor If y ou want to view yo ur presentation cl ose-up on a monit or as well as on the scr een, you can connect the D-SUB OUT signal output sock et on the project or to an external monit or with a V GA or V GA to DVI-A cable by following the instru ctions below.
Connection 25 Connecting V ideo sourc e dev ices This section d escribes how t o connect the project or to V ideo sour ce devices usin g video cables. V ideo cable c onnections are r ecommended f or Vide o presentations. This projector also support s data (graphic) "PC" connection using wireless function.
Connection 26 Connecting Audio The projec tor has a built- in mono spea ker which is desig ned to provid e basic audio functionality accompan ying data presentations fo r business purposes only . It is not designed for , nor intended for s tereo audio r eproducti on use as might be expected in home theatre or home cinema applications.
Connection 27 T o connect the projector to a DV I source dev ice or a computer: For information on connecting a DVI source device to a comp uter through a VGA to DVI- A cable, see "Connecting a computer" on p age 22 . 1. T a ke the DVI (DVI-D or DVI-I) cable and connect one end to the DVI output socket of t he DVI so urce d ev ice .
Connection 28 3. If you wish to make use the projector (mi xed mono) speaker , take a suitable audio cable and connect one end of the cable to th e audio output sockets of the video device, an the other end to the A UDIO IN socket o f the projecto r .

Operation 31 Operation Star t up 1. Plug the power cord into the projec tor and into a wall sock et. T urn on the wa ll socket sw itch (where fitted). Check that the Po w e r in d i c a to r on the projector lights orange after power has been applied.
Operat ion 32 U tilizing the password function For security purposes and to help prev ent un authorized use, the pr ojector includ es an option for setting up password securit y . Th e password can be set through the On-Screen Display (OSD) menu. For details of the OSD menu op erati on, please refer to "U sing the menus" on page 46 .
Operation 33 En ter i ng t he pa ss word rec al l p roce dure Press and hold AU T O on the projector or r emote control f or 3 seconds. The pr ojector will display a coded number on the screen. W rite down th e number and turn off y our projector . Seek help from the local BenQ ser vice center to decode the number .
Operat ion 34 S w itching input signal The projector can be connec ted to multiple dev ices at the same time. H owever , it can only displa y one full screen at a time. T o cycle through the available input sources, press SOUR CE on the projector or remote control.
Operation 35 A ut o-adjusting the image In so me c ase s, yo u m ay ne ed to opt imi ze th e pi ct ure qualit y . T o do this, press AU T O on the projector or remo te co nt rol . With in 3 se con ds , th e bu il t- in Intellige nt Au to Adjustment function will re-adjust the values of Frequency and Clo ck to provide the best picture quality .

Operation 37 Selecting the aspect ratio The 'aspect ratio' is the ratio of the image wi dth to the image heig ht. Most analog TV and computers are in 4:3 ratio, wh ich is the defaul t for this proje ctor , and digital TV and DVDs are usually in 16:9 ratio .
Operat ion 38 Optimizing the image Selecting an ap plication mode The projec tor is preset wi th severa l predefined application modes so that you can choose one to su it your opera ting environment and input source picture ty pe. T o select a operat ion mode that suits your need, press MODE repeatedly un til your desired mo de is selected.

Operation 41 PIP (Picture In Picture) operation Y our projector is capable of displaying images simultaneously from two input sourc es, which can be use d to enhance your presentation in an in teresting way . The PIP functi ons are available only when the in put source is PC and the PIP source is Video or S-Video .

Operation 45 Note that the menu items are available when the projector detects at least one valid signa l. If there is no e quipment conne cted to the proje ctor or no si gnal dete cted, limited menu items are acc essible.
Operat ion 46 U sing the men us The pr ojector is equip ped with On-Screen Displa y (OSD) men us for making various adjustments and settings. There are 17 differ ent OSD menu lang uages. See "System setup: Bas ic menu" on page 50 for details.

Operation 49 Sourc e menu FUNCTION (default settin g / value) DESCRIPTION Auto Source Detection (On) Sets whether the projector se arches aut omatically for input signals. If the source scan is On , the projector will scan for input sig nals until it acquires a signal.
Operat ion 50 Syst em setup: Basic menu FUNCTION (default setting / value) DESCRIPTION Language (English) Sets the language f or the On -Screen Display (OSD) menus. Us e Left / Rig ht on the projector or remote c ontrol to select your desired language .
Operation 51 Sy stem setup: A dvanced men u FUNCTION (default sett ing / value) DESCRIPTION Quick Cooling (Off) Enables or disables the Quick Cooling function. Selecting On enables the function and projector cooling time will be shor tened from a normal 90- second dura tion to approximately 30 seconds .
Operat ion 52 Infor m at ion menu This menu shows you the cur rent opera ting st atus of the projec tor . Some picture adjustments are available only when certain input sources are in use. Unavailable adjustment s are not shown on the screen. FUNCTION DESCRIPTION Source Shows the current signal sourc e.
Maintenance 53 M aintenance Care of the projector Y our proje ctor needs little maintenanc e. The only thing y ou need to d o on a regula r basis is to keep the lens clean and to clean the dust filter to prevent overheating . See "Cleaning the lens" and "Cleaning and replacing the dust filter" below for details.
Maintenance 54 A warning message lik e the one pictur ed to the right w ill be displa yed for 10 sec onds every 500 hours of use to remind you to clean the filter . T o leave the message, press ENTER on the project or or remote control. T o cle an the filter 1.
Maintenance 55 6. Refi t the filter case by aligning and inserting it into the project or slot. 7. Press the case back until it clicks into place. 8. T urn the projector back on. If the case is not correctly seated in place, the projector will display an on-screen message as pictured t o the right every three min utes.
Maintenance 56 Lamp information Calculation of lamp hour Whe n the project or is in operation , the duration (in hours ) of lamp usage is au tomatically calculated by the built-in timer .
Maintenance 57 R eplacing the lamp • T o reduce the risk of electrical shock, al ways turn the projector off and disconnect the power cord before changing the lamp. • T o reduce the risk of severe burns, allow the projector to cool for at least 45 minutes before replacing the lamp.
Maintenance 58 4. Disconnect the lamp co nnector from the projector . 5. Loosen the screw th at secures the lamp. 6. Lift the handle so tha t it stands up. U se the handle to slo wly pull the lamp out of th e projector . • Pulling it too quickly may cause the lamp to break and scatter broken glas s in the projector .
