Unpacking your Cintiq Page 8 Setting up the Cintiq stand Place the stand on your desktop or w ork surface, making sure the stand is stab le and will not tip or f all when the pen displa y is mounted on it. Then familiarize y ourself with the stand components.

T o mount Cintiq on the stand: • Make sure the stand is stab le on your desktop or other w ork surface and will not tip or f all when Cintiq is mounted on it.

Unpacking your Cintiq Page 11 Adjusting rotation The pen displa y can be rotated on the display stand when the incline is less than or equal to 25 degrees . T o adjust rotation, grasp Cintiq by the main body and rotate the unit to the desired position; it will mov e on the bearing hub .
Unpacking your Cintiq Page 12 Removing Cintiq fr om the displa y stand T o remove Cintiq from the displa y stand: • If the rotation lock scre ws are attached, remov e them from the bac k of Cintiq. • P osition the pen displa y to landscape orientation before remo ving it from the displa y stand.
Cintiq pen display components Page 13 CINTIQ PEN DISPLAY COMPONENTS After the Cintiq pen displa y is safely mounted on the Cintiq stand, tak e some time to f amiliarize yourself with its f eatures and components. The LCD monitor and tablet sensor function as an integ rated input and output de vice.

Installation Page 15 INSTALLATION System requirements Bef ore installing Cintiq, make sure y our computer meets the f ollowing minimum system requirements: • PC. Windo ws Vista ™ , Vista x64, XP , XP x64, or 2000. D VI or V GA video connector , a vailab le USB por t, and CD-ROM driv e.
Installation Page 16 Step 1: LCD monitor installation In the first stage of the installation process, Cintiq is installed as a monitor on y our system. As you work through the first stage of the installation process, please ref er to the LCD monitor cab ling diagram on page 18 when making cable connections .

Installation Page 20 • As necessar y , configure the displa y control panel settings f or the proper size and color resolution. The maximum (nativ e) resolution of the Cintiq 20WSX is 1680 x 1050 pix els with 24 bit color (8 bits per color). The displa y size and color resolution ma y be constrained b y the capabilities of your video card.

Installation Page 22 Software installation IMPORT ANT : Y ou MUST install the W acom pen tab let driver software f or full pen and tab let functionality , otherwise the Cintiq pen will only function as a mouse de vice and the extended pen and tablet f eatures will not be a vailab le.
Working with your Cintiq Page 23 WORKING WITH YOUR CINTIQ Using the pen As you w ork with Cintiq, you can rest your hand lightly on the displa y screen, just as if it were a dr awing board or sheet of paper . The Grip P en is cordless , batter y-free, and sensitiv e to the tilt and pressure you e x er t upon it.

Working with your Cintiq Page 25 W orking with the tablet controls The customizable ExpressK eys and T ouch Strips enable you to speed up y our workflow in gr aphics or other applications. While using the pen with your dominant hand, y ou can simultaneously use y our other hand to operate the ExpressK e ys or T ouch Strip.
Working with your Cintiq Page 26 Using the ExpressKe ys Press the ExpressK eys with y our secondary hand to toggle between tools or change tool proper ties while using your primary hand to wor k with y our pen on the display tab let surf ace. All ExpressK eys can be customiz ed.

Working with your Cintiq Page 29 • T ouch Strip Modifier operation: The upper pair of ExpressKe ys located to the left and right of your pen displa y enab le you to modify the function of the corresponding T ouch Strip . Each T ouch Strip can be independently customized to meet your needs .
Working with your Cintiq Page 30 Setting up y our w ork area The Cintiq 20WSX pen displa y and stand were designed to provide y ou with the widest possible r ange of fle xibility and ergonomic work approach. The design allows you to quic kly adjust Cintiq to a diff erent position whene ver the need arises.
Working with your Cintiq Page 31 Hints: • If the rotation lock scre ws are attached to the back of Cintiq, the y must be remo ved bef ore Cintiq can be rotated. • Bef ore rotating the display unit, be sure the cab le is freely rotating behind the unit.
Customizing Page 32 CUSTOMIZING After you master the basics of using y our Grip P en on the Cintiq pen displa y , you ma y want to customize the w ay the pen or pen displa y wor ks . The W acom T ablet control panel mak es it easy to customize Cintiq and the pen.
Customizing Page 33 Customization basics This manual only co vers the basics of customizing Cintiq. F or detailed information see the Cintiq Software User’ s Manual. If you installed the W acom tab let software, just open the W acom T ablet control panel and click on the H ELP b utton to displa y the manual.
Customizing Page 34 Calibrating Cintiq Y ou will need to calibrate the pen displa y tablet in order to align the screen cursor position with the position of the pen on the displa y screen. This is required to adjust for par allax caused by the displa y screen cov er glass and coating.

Customizing Page 36 Adjusting the LCD monitor Factory presets, auto-sync, and user settings Factory presets: For optimal displa y quality , set y our video card to Cintiq’ s nativ e resolution of 1680 x 1050 pix els (WSXGA). See page 62 for signal specifications.
Customizing Page 37 The basic process f or working with the OSD is as follo ws: • Press the M ENU button to open the OSD main men u. • Use the up or down b uttons to select an option. When the option y ou want to adjust is highlighted, press the E NTER button.
Customizing Page 38 R ESET . Provides two options. • Use A UTO A DJUST to reset only the image parameters. • Use R ECALL to reset all screen options to the f actor y def ault. Selecting the e xit icon e xits the R ESET window without resetting anything.
Customizing Page 39 Adjusting pitch and phase (V GA only) Some computers and video cards ma y not allow the auto-sync function to fully work when Cintiq is first connected. If some por tion of text appears b lurred, open the OSD menu, go to the R ESET men u, and select the A UTO A DJUST option.
Customizing Page 40 P o wer saving Cintiq conf or ms to VESA and ENERGY ST AR ® pow er saving guidelines . When using Cintiq with a Displa y P ow er Management Signaling (DPMS) compliant computer or video card, the displa y will automatically comply with the below pow er saving par ameters.
Troubleshooting Page 41 TROUBLESHOOTING Most of the time your pen displa y tab let will work flawlessly . But if you are ha ving trouble , W acom recommends you do the f ollo wing: 1. If Cintiq does not function properly , refer to the troub leshooting section below .
Troubleshooting Page 42 3. V erify that the tablet and Grip P en are working: • Press the Grip P en tip against the displa y and verify that the status LED lights blue . • If the LED does not light, v er ify that Cintiq’ s USB cable is plugged into an activ e USB por t.
Troubleshooting Page 43 T esting your input tools and pen displa y contr ols If the Grip P en, or the Cintiq ExpressK eys or T ouch Str ips do not work as you e xpect, it is a good idea to first check the assigned functions or reset them to their def ault conditions .
Troubleshooting Page 44 T esting a pen 1. While obser ving the P OINTING D EVICE I NFO column, bring your pen within 5 mm (0.2 inch) of the displa y screen. A value f or P ROXIMITY , the D EVICE N AME , D EVICE T YPE , and a D EVICE S/N (serial number) should be displa yed.
Troubleshooting Page 45 Displa y troub leshooting If you encounter prob lems with the Cintiq displa y , refer to the f ollowing tables; your prob lem may be described here and you can try the solution offered. For additional inf ormation about color issues, ref er to the documentation that came with your oper ating system or applications.
Troubleshooting Page 46 V GA problems When a still image is displa yed f or a long period of time without refreshing the screen, an after- image remains f or a shor t period of time. • Use a screen sav er or other pow er management f eature. Color quality is inaccurate .

Y our problem ma y be described here, and you can try the solution offered. Be sure you ref er to the Cintiq Read Me file f or the latest information.
Troubleshooting Page 48 The eraser selects e verything or will not stop erasing. Open the W acom T ablet control panel and go to the E RASER tab . Mov e the E RASER F EEL slider tow ard F IRM , or select the D ETAILS ... button and increase the C LICK T HRESHOLD setting.
Troubleshooting Page 49 The pen tip and screen cursor do not properly line up . Open the W acom T ablet control panel and select the C ALIBRATE tab . Continue with Calibrating Cintiq on page 34.
Troubleshooting Page 50 Y ou suspect the pen tablet pref erences may be corrupted, or want to make cer tain that all settings are at their f actor y def aults. Delete the pen tablet pref erences as f ollows: Windows: Click the START icon and select A LL P ROGRAMS .

Appendix Page 54 APPENDIX Caring f or Cintiq K eep the Grip P en and your Cintiq LCD screen surf ace clean. Dust and dir t par ticles can stick to the pen and cause wear to the displa y screen surf ace. Regular cleaning will help to prolong the lif e of your LCD screen surf ace and pen.
Appendix Page 55 Replacing the pen tip The pen tip (nib) will wear with normal use. Excessive pressure will cause the nib to wear sooner . When the nib gets too shor t or de velops a sharp edge, replace it with one of the e xtra nibs that came with the pen.
Appendix Page 56 Optional displa y configurations After mounting the pen displa y unit on the Cintiq stand, you can rotate the pen displa y tab let to a variety of positions. If you do not plan to rotate the Cintiq and w ant to f asten it more securely to the stand, you can install the rotation lock scre ws as shown belo w .
Appendix Page 57 Using an alternate mount or stand Cintiq can be attached to any mount arm or stand conf or ming to the VESA 100 standard. Mounting screws that are 4 mm wide with a 0.7 mm pitch (M4 Regular), with a screw clearance depth from 13 – 18 mm are required.
