T e l e p h o n e l i n e c o r d Parts checklist Your telephone pac kag e contains the following items. Save your sales receipt and original packaging in the event warranty service is necessary.
Telephone base and han ds et charger installation Install the telephone base and han ds et charger as shown below. Make sure that the electrical outlet is not controlled by a wall switch.
Get ti ng star ted 3 Installation options Your telephone base is ready for tabletop use. If you want to mount your telephone on a wall, use the provided wall mount bracket to connect with a standard dual-stud telephone wall mounting plate.
Get ti ng star ted 4 Wall mount to tabletop installation If the telephone line cord and power adapter cord are bundled, untie them rst. Slide the wall mount bracket up and remove it from the wall plate. Unplug the telephone line cord (or DSL lter) from the wall.
5 Get ti ng star ted C H A R G E l i g h t Ha nd se t battery installation Install the battery as shown below. If the battery compartment cover is on the handset, press on the grooved tab and slide the cover to remove. Plug the battery connector securely into the socket inside the handset battery compartment, matching the color-coded label.
6 Get ti ng star ted Handset battery charging Once you have installed the han ds et battery, the screen indicates the battery status (see the table below). If necessary, place the handset in the telephone base or charger to charge the battery. For best performance, keep the handset in the telephone base or charger when not in use.

Get ti ng star ted 8 Headset attachments Earbud There are four earbuds provided and one of them has been attached to the headset. To remove the earbud from the headset earpiece: Hold both sides of the earbud and then pull the earbud until it separates from the earpiece.

Get ti ng star ted 11 Headset attachments (continued) To attach the ear hook to the headset: Remove any headset attachment (earbud excluded) connected to the headset. Choose an appropriate ear hook. Insert the ear hook [A] into the rotating clip [B] on the headset until it clicks into place.

During a call, press to increase the listening volume (pag e 24 ). Ha nd se t layout CHARGE light On when the handset is charging in the telephone base or charger (pag e 5).
Get ti ng star ted 15 MENU/SELECT Press to show the menu. While in a menu, press to choose an item, or save an entry or setting. OFF/CLEAR During a call, press to hang up (pag e 24 ). While the handset is ringing, press to silence the ringer temporarily (pag e 25).
Get ti ng star ted 16 PUSH TO TALK (PTT) Press to begin a one-to-one or one-to-all broadcast message (pag e 3 2 ). Ha nd se t layout.

19 T el ephone set tin gs Ringer volume (telephone base) Press /VOL or VOL/ on the telephone base to adjust the ringer volume when the telephone is not in use. When you set the ringer volume to zero, the base ringer is off and the system announces, “ Base ringer is off.
T el ephone set tin gs 20 LCD language You can select English , Français or Español to be used in all screen displays. Press MENU/ SELECT when the handset is not in use. Press / VOL or VOL / CID to highlight > Settings , then press MENU /SELECT .
T el ephone set tin gs 21 Key tone You can turn the key tone on or off. Press MENU/ SELECT when the handset is not in use. Press / VOL or VOL / CID to highlight > Settings , then press MENU /SELECT . Press / VOL or VOL / CID to highlight > Key tone , then press MENU /SELECT .
T el ephone set tin gs 22 CID time synchronization This feature allows the time and date to be set by incoming caller ID information. The default setting is On . Press MENU/ SELECT when the handset is not in use. Press / VOL or VOL / CID to highlight > Settings , then press MENU /SELECT .
T el ephone set tin gs 23 Dial mode The dial mode is pres et to tone dialing. If you have pulse (rotary) service, you must change the dial mode to pulse dialing before using the telephone. Press MENU/ SELECT when the handset is not in use. Press / VOL or VOL / CID to highlight > Settings , then press MENU /SELECT .
24 T el ephone operation Make a call Press / FLASH or on the handset. You hear a dial tone. Dial the number. Press on the headset to join the call. Hang up the handset at any time to leave the call and the headset continues the call. Predial a call Dial the number on the handset.
25 T el ephone operation Mute The mute function allows you to hear the other party but the other party cannot hear you. On a handset: During a call, press MUTE/ REMOVE . The handset screen displays Muted for a few seconds and MUTE displays until the mute function is turned off.
26 T el ephone operation Find handset/headset Use this feature to page all system handsets and the headset. Press /FIND HANDSET on the telephone base. All idle handsets and headset ring, the handset screens display ** Paging ** and the light on the headset ashes in blue.
27 T el ephone operation Chain dialing Use this feature to initiate a dialing sequence from numbers stored in the directory, call log or redial while you are on a call. Chain dialing can be useful if you wish to access other numbers (such as bank account numbers or access codes) from the directory, call log or redial list.
28 T el ephone operation Redial list Each system handset stores the 20 most recently dialed numbers. When there are already 20 entries, the oldest entry is deleted to make room for the new entry. Entries are shown in reverse chronological order. Press REDIAL/ PAUSE to browse the redial list.
29 T el ephone operation Intercom Use the intercom feature for conversations between two handsets, or a handset and a headset. When the handset is not in use, press MENU/ SELECT . Press / VOL or VOL / CID to highlight > Intercom , then press MENU /SELECT .

32 T el ephone operation Push to talk (PTT) You can directly broadcast messages from one handset to the speakerphone of one or all other handsets. Any handset c alle d can respond by pressing PUSH TO TALK to begin a two-way communication. Only one handset can talk at a time.
33 T el ephone operation PTT to a single handset You have four ways to begin a PTT call: If you have two handsets, press and hold PUSH TO TALK when the handset is not in use. Press PUSH TO TALK when the handset is not in use. Then use the dialing keys to enter the destination handset number.
34 T el ephone operation PTT to all handsets You can connect a PTT call from a single handset to all available system handsets. You have four ways to begin a PTT-to-all call: Press and hold PUSH TO TALK when the handset is not in use. If you have more th an t wo h and set s, press PUSH TO TALK when the handset is not in use.
35 T el ephone operation Answer PTT You can respond to a PTT call whenever the speakerphone light is off, as described below. When your handset receives a PTT call, the handset beeps and displays Press and hold [PTT] to talk .
36 T el ephone operation End PTT For one-to-one PTT, both initiating and destination handsets can end PTT. For one-to-all PTT, the initiating handset can end the PTT call for all handsets on the PTT call. If any one of the destination handsets leaves the PTT call, the call continues until all participants or the initiator hangs up.
37 T el ephone operation Directory The directory can store up to 50 entries with up to 30 digits for each phone number and 15 characters for each name. Directory entries are shared by all system handsets. Any additions, deletions or edits made on one handset are reected on all handsets.
38 T el ephone operation Store a directory entry Use the following steps to store an entry in the directory. 1. Enter the number when the handset is not in use and press MENU /SELECT . The screen displays ENTER NUMBER . -OR- a) Press MENU/ SELECT when the handset is not in use.
39 T el ephone operation Character chart Use the dialing keys and the chart below to enter a name (up to 15 characters). Each press of a particular key causes the characters to be displayed in the following order: When entering a name in the directory, the rst letter of each word is automatically capitalized.
40 T el ephone operation Search the directory Entries are sorted alphabetically. To search the directory: Press / VOL when the handset is not in use. -OR- Press MENU/ SELECT when the handset is not in use. Press / VOL or VOL / CID to highlight > Directory and then press MENU /SELECT twice.
41 T el ephone operation Edit a directory entry Use the following steps to edit an entry in the directory. Press / VOL when the handset is not in use. -OR- Press MENU/ SELECT when the handset is not in use. Press / VOL or VOL / CID to highlight > Directory and then press MENU /SELECT twice.
42 T el ephone operation About caller ID This product supports caller ID services provided by most telephone service providers. Depending on your service subscription, you may see the caller’s number, or the caller’s name and number that are sent by your telephone service provider after the rst or second ring.
43 T el ephone operation Call log If you subscribe to caller ID service, information about each caller will appear after the rst or second ring. If you answer a call before the caller information appears on the screen, it will not be saved in the call log.
44 T el ephone operation Missed call indicator When there are calls that have not been reviewed in the call log, the handset displays XX Missed call(s) . Each time you review a call log entry marked NEW , the number of missed calls decreases by one. When you have reviewed all the missed calls, the missed call indicator no longer displays.
45 T el ephone operation Dial a call log entry When in the call log (see Review the call log on page 4 4 ), press / VOL or VOL / CID to browse to the desired entry. Press / FLASH or to dial. Save a call log entry to the directory When in the call log, press / VOL or VOL / CID to browse.
46 T el ephone operation Delete the call log ent rie s To delete one entry: When in the call log, press / VOL or VOL / CID to browse. Press MUTE /REMOVE to delete the selected entry. To delete all entries: Press MENU/ SELECT when the handset is not in use.
47 Answering system setup Most of the answering system settings are changed with a system handset. Answer ON/OFF The answering system must be turned on to answer and record messages. When the answering system is turned on, the /ANS ON/OFF light on the telephone base is on and ANS ON displays on the handset.
48 Ans werin g s ystem settings Call screening You can hear incoming messages at the telephone base while they are being recorded. Follow the below steps to turn this feature on or off. Press MENU/ SELECT when the handset is not in use. Press / VOL or VOL / CID to highlight > Answering sys , then press MENU /SELECT .
49 Ans werin g s ystem settings Remote access code A two-digit security code is required to access the answering system remotely from any touch-tone telephone. The preset code is 19 . You can set the code from 00 to 99 . Press MENU/ SELECT when the handset is not in use.
50 Ans werin g s ystem settings Announcement The telephone is preset with a greeting that answers calls with “Hello, please leave a message after the tone.” You can use this preset announcement, or replace it with your own. Record your own announcement Press MENU/ SELECT when the handset is not in use.
51 Answering system and voicemail Your telephone has separate indicators for two different types of voice messages: those left on its built-in answering system and those left at your service provider’s voicemail. Your telephone’s built-in answering system messages and voicemail messages are separate.
52 Ans werin g s ystem operation New message indication The message window on the telephone base ashes, and XX N ew messages display on the handsets when there are new answering system messages. If the new message alert tone is turned on, the telephone base beeps every 10 seconds when there are messages that have not been reviewed.
53 Ans werin g s ystem operation Message playback (continued) To play messages with a handset: Press MENU/ SELECT when the handset is not in use. Press MENU /SELECT to highlight > Play messages . If you have either new or old messages, the messages play automatically.
54 Ans werin g s ystem operation Delete all messages To delete all messages with the telephone base: Press X/DELETE when the phone is not in use. The telephone announces, “To delete all old messages, press DELETE again.” Press X/DELETE again. All previously heard messages are erased and the telephone announces, “ All old messages deleted.
55 Ans werin g s ystem operation When the memory is full, the answering system answers incoming calls after 10 rings and announces, “Memory is full. Enter the remote access code.” Win dow dis pl ay Description 0 No messages. 1-99 Total number of old messages recorded.

63 Appendix Expand your telephone system The handsets and headset provided with your telephone system are already registered. Each handset is assigned a number that displays on the handset. Additional handsets registered to the telephone system are assigned in sequential order.
64 Appendix Add and register a headset (optional) This telephone system accommodates one headset only. If you want to rep lac e t he re gi stere d head set w it h a new on e, you must d ereg is ter the reg is tered h ead set r st ( see p age 6 5) .
65 Appendix Replace a handset/headset If you want to replace a headset or handset, or reassign the designated handset number of a registered handset, you must deregister all the handsets and headset that are registered to the telephone base. Then register each handset and headset individually.

67 Appendix T roubl es hoo ting Low battery shows on screen. Place the handset in the telephone base or charger for recharging. Completely remove and install the battery again and use it until fully depleted, then recharge the handset in the telephone base or charger for up to 16 hours.
68 Appendix T roubl es hoo ting My handset beeps and is not performing normally. Make sure the power cord is securely plugged into the telephone base. Plug the telephone base into a different working electrical outlet not controlled by a wall switch. Move the handset closer to the telephone base.

73 Appendix If there is a fax machine connected to the same telephone line, try disconnecting the fax machine. If that solves the problem, consult your fax machine documentation for information on compatibility with answering systems. The outgoing announcement is not clear.
