8 P ow er M anagement Y our device will work from its ba ttery or when plugged into a power sourc e. • Battery — Charge the battery by plugging in the wall charger . While the battery is charging the battery icon bars blink . When the battery is fully charged, the battery icon is solid.
9 Caring f or Y our Device Like any electronic device , the device must be handled with care to ensure r eliable operation. Novat el Wireless r ecommends the f ollowing guidelines: • Pr otect the device from liquids , dust, and ex cessive t emperatur es.

11 A cc essing the Network 4G L TE With L TE bandwidth (700 MHz) you can get the broadband-like speed y ou require t o work eciently outside the home or oce. Y ou can connec t to the Internet, access y our corporat e intranet, check your email and download a ttachments at speeds that ar e up to 10 times faster than 3G*.
12 Using the Device f or the F irst Time T o get star ted, f ollow these steps: ➊ Conrm your c omputer meets the minimum system r equirements. (See Syst em Requirements on page 3.) ➋ Assemble the wall charger . (See Assemble the Wall Char ger on page 13.
13 Assemble the W all Charger The wall charger c omes with a remov able plug. Y ou need to connect it before using the MiFi devic e for the rst time . T o assemble the wall charger , follo w these steps: ➊ Remove the plug and the wall char ger from the package.
14 Remov e the 4G L TE SIM Car d T o remove the 4G L TE SIM card, follo w these steps: ➊ Open the SIM card co ver locat ed on the underside of the MiFi 4620L.
15 Inser t and Charge the Batter y IMPORT ANT Before y ou use your device, be sure to charge the batt er y for at least thr ee hours to ensure a full initial char ge.
16 ➍ Connect the micro USB end of the charger t o the micro USB port of the device. ➎ Plug the other end of the AC w all charger into the appr opr iate electrical outlet. Charge for a t least three hours . CAUTION! Use only batteries and chargers with your device that hav e been approv ed by Novatel Wireless .
17 Battery Tips W ARNING ! Use only batteries and chargers with your device that have been appro ved by Novatel Wireless . Always use Novatel Wireless original batteries and chargers . The warranty does not cover damage caused by non-No vatel Wireless batteries and/or char gers.
18 P ow er the MiFi 4620L On and O Po wer On • Pr ess the P ower Button until the LED illuminates g reen or violet. Po wer Off • Pr ess and hold the P ower Button until the display sho ws MiFi P owering O and the LED turns yellow . Activat e Y our Device Y our SIM card should come pr e -activated and ready to c onnect.
19 C onnec ting to the Device Now you can c onnect your computer to y our MiFi 4620L using W i-F i. C onnect to MiFi Settings T o connect to the M iF i 4620L, follow these steps: ➊ T urn on your computer and turn on the MiF i 4620L.
20 Using the Device A f ter Setup is Complete Y ou can use the MiFi 4620L as a wir eless mobile hotspot to connect your computer and/or (up t o a total of ten) other Wi-F i enabled devices to the mobile broadband network. Y ou can customize the MiF i 4620L 's settings using MiFi Settings.

22 C onguring M iF i Settings Y ou can congure the Wi-F i settings on your device using the easy-t o-use M iF i Settings web-based User Inter face (MiFi Settings). It allows y ou to manage, monit or , and customiz e your Wi-F i and 4GL TE mobile broadband connection.
23 L ogin The L ogin page is the rst page you see after connecting and prior to logging in. It contains the status bar , the C onnect/Disconnec t button, and the Login button.
24 Quick Star t The QuickStart menu allows you to quickly change the security settings (administration password and Wi-F i settings) for your MiFi 4620L. The QuickStar t menu has the following options: • Admin P assword (See Admin P assword on page 24.
25 Change Admin P assword T o change the administration password used t o login to the MiFi device fr om the QuickStar t screen, follow these st eps: ➊ Enter your curr ent passwor d in the Current Admin P assword bo x. ➋ Enter your new passw ord in the New Admin P assword box.
26 Buttons • Save & Ne x t — Click this button to sav e any changes made to the administr ation passwor d. • S ave — Click this button to save an y changes made to the passwor d settings. • Cancel — Click this button t o cancel an y changes made to the passwor d settings.
27 W i-Fi Settings The Wi-F i Settings screen has the following sections: • Network Name (SSID ) — T he name of the M iFi4620L devic e ’ s wireless network. • Security — The security type used to encr ypt the wireless network. • W i-Fi P assword — Display s the current Wi-F i password .
28 W i-F i The Wi-F i menu allows you to cust omize the Wi-F i proles and view details about the devices connected to your devic e. The Wi-F i menu has the following options: • W i-Fi P rofiles (See Wi-F i Prole on page 28.) • Connected Devices (See C onnected Devices on page 34.
29 The Curr ent P role section has the following pr ole details: • Selec ted Profile — The prole settings shown on the page. (See Changing t o a Dier ent Pr ole on page 32.) • Network Name (SSID ) — T he name of the M iFi4620L devic e's wireless network.
30 • Security — The security type used to encr ypt the wireless network. • WEP 64-bit (least secure , more compatible with older devic es) • WEP 128-bit • WP A Personal/PSK ( TKIP) • WP A2.
31 Choosing a Profile Y our device comes with the Secure pr ole already set. The f ollowing proles come with your device: • Secure — This is the prole you should use most of the time . Y ou can set up this prole with the security measures you need to use y our device safely .
32 ➍ Click Generate t o creat e a new network name and network key if you do not want to use the preset tempor ar y prole . Y ou should write down the new network name and network key . ➎ Click S ave . O thers can now use the temporary net work name (SSID) and network key to connect to your device .
33 Updating a Pr ofile Not Curr ently in Use T o update a prole not curren tly in use, f ollow these steps: ➊ Change the Selected Prole pop-up menu to a dier ent prole. ➋ W ait a moment for the web page to upda te with the Wi-F i settings for the selected prole.
34 C onnected Devices The Connected Devices section has the following: • Hostname — The network name for the connected device (if a vailable). • Date/T ime — The date/time the devic e was detected by the network. • MA C Address — The Media Access Con troller (MA C ) or physical addr ess for MiF i4620L.
35 Network The Network menu pro vides detailed LAN, W W AN and SIM information and c onguration options . The Network menu has the follo wing options: • LAN (See LAN on page 36.
36 LAN The LAN screen g ives y ou settings and information about MiF i4620L 's network. The LAN screen has the following sections: • IPv4 (See IPv4 on page 37.
37 IPv4 The IPv4 section has the following options: • IP Address — The IP address for MiF i4620L. • Subnet Mask — The subnet mask network setting for MiFi4620L. The default value 255.255.255.0 is standard f or small (class "C") networks.
38 IPv6 The IPv6 section has the following options: • Enable IPv6 — The Enable IPv6 check box enables or disables the IPv6 fea ture . • Link Local Address — Displa ys the local address when IPv6 is enabled. • Global Address — Displa ys the global address when IPv6 is enabled.
39 W WA N The WW AN option takes you to the W W AN screen. The WW AN screen giv es you settings and information about MiF i4620L 's network. This is also where y ou can disable global roaming. The WW AN screen has the follo wing sections: • Internet C onnection (See I nternet Connection on page 40.
40 Internet Connection The Internet Connection section shows device settings and status and includes the f ollowing: • Status — The status of the Internet connection, usually Connected or Disconnected . • T echnology — The type of technology used to connect to the Internet.
41 Connection Log Click Connection Log to acc ess the W W AN settings connection log. The C onnec tion Log has the following: • Date/T ime — The date/time the devic e was detected by the network. • Client IP Addr ess — The client IP address f or the connec ted device .
42 WW AN Log Click WW AN Log to acc ess the W W AN log . The WW AN Log recor ds net work events . This data is useful for tr oubleshooting. Click this butt on to view the log data in a new window .
43 WW AN S ettings T o congure the settings, f ollow these steps: ➊ Select the device connection method from the Auto- connect drop- down menu. The connection choices are Auto- connect , Auto - connect except with roaming , or Manual . ➋ Global roaming is enabled by default when the Aut o- connec t option in enabled.
44 SIM The SIM menu takes you t o the SIM screen. The SIM scr een gives y ou settings and information about MiFi4620L 's SIM card. The SIM screen has the f ollowing sec tion: • SIM Operations (See SIM Operations on page 44.
45 Securit y The Security menu allows you to change y our Administration password , and enable and congure MA C and P or t ltering. The Security menu has the following options: • Passw ord (See Passw ord on page 45.) • MA C Filt ering (See MAC F iltering on page 47.
46 Set Administration P assword T o set or change the administration passwor d, f ollow these steps: ➊ T ype your current passw ord in the C urrent P assword box. ➋ T ype the new password (it must hav e bet ween 4 and 64 characters) in the New P assword box.
47 MA C F iltering The MA C Filtering scr een enables you to allo w specic devices to connect to MiF i4620L 's wireless network. For example , if you put the MAC addr ess for y our W i-Fi-enabled mobile phone and the MA C address f or your comput er in the T rusted Devic e List , then only those devices can connect to your device .
48 MA C Filter The Enable MA C Filter checkbox enables or disables the MA C F ilter feature . • When the fea ture is enabled (checked), you must add the M AC address f or the device to the T rusted Device List.
49 T rusted D evice List The T rusted Device List section displays the MA C address(es) of trusted devices. Only devic es in the T rusted Device List are able t o connect to the MiFi4620L wir eless network.
50 Remov e a Device fr om the T rusted Device List T o remove a devic e from the T rusted Device List, f ollow these steps: ➊ Click on the device in the T rusted Device List to select it. ➋ Click Delete Device . Connected Devices • Hostname — The network name for the connected device (if a vailable).
51 P or t Filt ering The P or t Filtering scr een allows y ou to block outgoing Internet connections. Y ou can set a list of Allowed A pplications to only allow c er tain progr ams to connect to the Internet. The P or t Filtering screen has the f ollowing sections: • P ort Filtering (See P or t F iltering on page 52.
52 Port Filtering The Enable P or t Filtering checkbox enables or disables the P or t Filtering f eature . • When the fea ture is enabled (checked), you must select a port ltering application in the Allowed A pplications list to allow tha t application to connect to the Internet.
53 Custom Applications This page is only available when the P or t F iltering featur e is enabled. Click Custom A pplications to open the C ustom P or t Filtering scr een. Y ou can dene and enable custom P or t Filtering applications . Y ou need to know details of the trac used and gener ated by the applications you wish to dene .
54 P ort R anges Y ou can dene up to six por t ranges f or each application. Each port range has the following options: • Start Port — T ype the beginning of the range of port numbers used by outgoing trac for this application. U se as many r ows as nec essar y to dene the requir ed number of port ranges.
55 System The Sy stem menu pro vides system inf ormation, a system log , and the options to delete notications and reset to factory defaults. The System menu has the f ollowing options: • Sy stem Status (See Sy stem Status on page 56.) • Config F ile (S ee Cong F ile on page 58.
56 Sy stem Status The Sy stem Status scr een displays detailed inf or mation on the status of the syst em and a system log of various operations. The System Status scr een has the follo wing sections: • Sy stem Informa tion (S ee System Inf ormation on page 57.
57 S ystem Information The Sy stem Information section contains detailed information about the MiF i 4620L. The Sy stem Information section has the following: • Manufacturer — The manufac turer of the MiF i 4620L. • Model — The model number or name of the MiFi 4620L.
58 C ong F ile The Cong F ile screen has the follo wing sections: • Config F ile Download (See Cong F ile Download on page 58.) • Config F ile Upload (S ee Cong F ile Upload on page 59.) Config F ile D ownload The Cong F ile Download section allows you to do wnload (backup) the conguration le to y our computer .
59 ➌ Click S ave in the F ile D ownload pop-up screen to sav e the conguration le to a specied location on your comput er . Config F ile Upload The Cong F ile Upload section allows you to upload (r estore) a c onguration le from y our PC.
60 Sof tware Updat e The Software Update screen has the f ollowing sec tions: • Update Sta tus (See Update Status on page 60.) • History (See H istor y on page 60.) Update Status The Update Sta tus section provides information on a vailable sof tware updates .
61 A dvanc ed The Adv anced menu pro vides audio aler t notication options; Wi-F i, Router and System settings; modem and network operational details; and options for c onguring por t forwarding applications. The Adv anced menu has the follo wing options: • Audio Alerts (See Audio Alerts on page 62.

63 Audio Aler t Notifications The Audio A ler t Notications section has the following options: • Device power ed On/O • New Notication message receiv ed • Lo w Battery aler t at 20% • Lo w Battery aler t at 5% • New F irmwar e update available • Roaming Conrmation ( Y es/No on Display).
64 Settings The Settings screen has the f ollowing sections: • W i-Fi (See Wi-F i on page 65.) • Router (See Router on page 66.) • Syste m (See System on page 69.
65 Wi-F i The Broadcast Network Name (SSID ) check box enables or disables the SSID broadcast f eature . • If this is enabled (checked), M iF i4620L 's wireless network appears in the A vailable Wir eless Networks list on your c omputer or portable device.
66 Router The VPN P assthrough enable check bo x enables or disables the VPN Passthr ough fea ture . • If this is enabled (checked), this feature allo ws VPN clients to connect through MiF i4620L to remote VPN Ser vers. Normally , this option should be enabled.
67 GPS Over Wi-F i The GPS ov er W i-Fi (NMEA) check bo x enables or disables the GPS W i-Fi f eature . T o set-up GPS over Wi-F i, follow these steps: ➊ Check the box GPS o ver Wi-Fi (NMEA) . ➋ Click OK to accept the L ocation Based Ser vices Agreement .
68 ➍ Click How to use this f eature to open the Help dialog window to select and install the required device driver . ➎ After the device driver is installed , open your GPS client software prog ram and f ollow the conguration instructions. ➏ Star t your GPS client software application.
69 S ystem The Aut omatic Shutdo wn menu changes the amount of time that expir es befor e the device automatically shuts down. The T urn Off Display menu changes the amount of time that expir es befor e the display turns o . The Enable Logs check bo x enables or disables the System log featur e.
70 The Language menu changes the MiFiSettings W eb UI language. The Dat e/Time F ormat menu changes the format of the dat e to reect that used in the US or Eur ope. It changes the format of the time to a 12- or 24-hour clock. Buttons • S ave — Click this button to save an y changes made to settings.
71 Diagnostics The Diagnostics scr een shows inf or mation about the MiFi4620L rm ware and other system-level information. Y ou can also view the system log . This screen is used mostly for tr oubleshooting and is not required f or normal operation.
72 Modem The Modem section has the following: • MEID — The Mobile Equipment Identier (MEID) is used by the mobile da ta network to identify this particular modem. • Phone Number (MDN) — The Phone Number or Mobile Director y Number (MDN) is used by the mobile data network to identify this particular data ser vice.
73 4G Network (L TE) The 4G Network (L TE) sec tion has the follo wing: • Status — Status of the network (Disabled , Not available , or A vailable). • Network Opera tor — The vendor that curr ently pro vides wireless acc ess. • RSSI — Indicates the signal strength f or L TE.
74 3G Network (GSM/W CDMA) The 3G Network (GSM/WCDM A) section has the following: • Status — Status of the network (Disabled , Not available , or A vailable). • T echnology — The type of technology used to connect to the Internet. • Network Opera tor — The vendor that curr ently pro vides wireless acc ess.
75 P or t F or warding The P or t Forwarding fea ture allow s incoming trac (fr om the Internet) to be forwarded to a par ticular computer or device on the MiF i4620L 's wireless network . Normally , incoming trac from the Internet is blocked.
76 Port Forwarding The P or t Forwarding fea ture f or wards inc oming trac from the int ernet to a particular connec ted device. T o use any of the c ommon ser ver applications listed , follow these steps: ➊ Select the Enable Port Forwarding check box.
77 Custom Applications This page is not available unless the P or t F or warding featur e is enabled. Click Custom A pplications to open the C ustom P or t Forwarding screen. Y ou can dene and enable custom P or t Forwarding applications. Y ou need to k now details of the trac used and generat ed by the applications you wish to dene .

80 O ver view When properly installed , the MiFi4620L is a highly r eliable product. Most problems are caused b y one of these issues: • System r esources required b y the device are being used b y other devices. • Network cover age is unavailable due t o cov erage area, an ac count problem, or a netw ork problem.

82 How do I r eset the A cc ess Poin t and Router settings back to factor y settings? T o reset the access point and r outer settings, follow these st eps. ➊ Connect to MiFi Settings by c onnecting your computer to the MiF i wireless network and going to http://admin.
