Bundle the telephone line cord, and secure it with a twist tie before placing it inside the bracket. 4. Plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet not controlled by a wall switch.
T elephone operation T elephone settings Y ou can change settings to program how the telephone works. Press CID /SETUP repeatedl y until the feature you want is displayed. Press or CID to change settings. Press CID /SETUP again t o accept the new setting and move to ne xt feature.
T elephone operation T elephone settings Language Press or CID to select the language used in all menus and screen displays. Y ou can choose ENGLISH , ESP ANOL or FRANCAIS . Home ar ea code/l ocal ar ea codes Y ou can program this phone to r ecognize one home area code and up t o four local ar ea codes.
T elephone operation T elephone operation Making and answering calls T o make a call, lift the handset or press SPEAKER , then dial a number . Replace the handset or press SPEAKER to hang up. T o answer a call, lift the handset, or press SPEAKER to use the speak erphone.
T elephone operation Options while on calls T o adjust listening volume While on calls, press VO LUME to adjust the listening volume. There ar e eight volume levels for the speakerphone, and four levels for the handset. Pr ess or once to increase or lower the listening volume by one level.
Directory Dir ectory Memory capacity The telephone can stor e up to 12 (thr ee one- touch and nine speed dial) numbers in memory locations for quick dialing.
Directory Speed dialing Y ou can enter nine speed dial numbers of up to 24 digits. Each number is stored in a one-digit speed dial location (1-9). T o stor e a number in speed dial 1. Press PROG/ MEM . 2. Enter a telephone number (up t o 24 digits), or import one by pressing REDIAL .
Directory One-t ouch dialing T elephone numbers called most frequently can be stored in one-t ouch locations so that they can be dialed with only one ke y press. Y ou can enter three telephone numbers up to 24 digits. There ar e three ( M1, M2, M3 ) one-t ouch keys on your t elephone.
Caller ID hist ory Information about call er ID with call waiting This product has a caller ID function with call waiting feature which works with servic e from your local telephone company . Caller ID with call waiting lets you see the name and telephone number of the caller befor e answering the telephone, even when on another call.
Caller ID hist ory How caller ID works If you subscribe to caller ID service pr ovided by your local telephone company , information about each caller will be displayed between the first and second ring. Information about the last 50 incoming calls is stored in the call hist ory .
T o r eview the call hist ory T o review the call hist ory Press or CID to display the most r ecent call. Press or CID repeat edly to scr oll through the list of earlier calls. T o return a call T o dial a number currently displayed, press DISPLA Y DIAL and then lift the handset or press SPEAKER (see below for important dialing options).
Delet e or copy an entry T o copy an entry into memory T o copy a displayed number into memory , press PROG/ MEM . The name and time will be removed, and the telephone number will r emain in the screen. Pr ess PROG/ MEM again, ENTER L OCA TION? will appear in the screen.
Answering system operation Answering syst em oper ation Message capacity The answering system can rec ord up t o 99 messages, depending on the length of each message. Individual messages can be up to three minutes, and tot al maximum rec ording time is 19 minutes.
Answering system operation Answering syst em mode The answering system’s defaul t factory setting is ON in order to answer and r ecord messages. Y ou can turn the answering system off, but if you do, the answering system will not answer calls or recor d incoming messages.
Answering system operation Day & time announcements T o set day and time Before pla ying each message, the answering sys- tem announces the da y and time the message was received. Before using the answering syst em, follow the steps on the left to set the da y and time, so messages are dated c orrectly .
Answering system operation Out going announcements Outgoing announcements ar e the messages call- ers hear when calls are answer ed by the answering system. The telephone is pre-pr ogrammed with an announce- ment. If the telephone is set up to r ecor d messages, it answers calls with “Hello, please leave a message after the t one.
Answering system operation Announce onl y mode In announce only mode, callers can hear an announcement but cannot leave messages. This option is useful, for example, t o notify callers that you will be away for an e xtended period and request that they call back after a cert ain date.
Answering system operation Changing f eatur e options When the answering system is on, you can customiz e how the system operat es. Press and hold TA S /SETUP to begin, then press r epeatedly t o hear each feature. Pr ess SKIP or REPEA T to change the setting of any f ea- ture.
Answering system operation What is priority call code? If a caller enters your priority call code while your announce- ment is playing, you’ll be alerted with a spe- cial tone so you can answer the call. If the call is not answered, you will hear " the machine will now hang up.
Answering system operation Message playback Press PLA Y/ STOP to listen to only new (unhear d) messages. Press and hold PLA Y/ ST OP to listen to all messages (oldest first). Announcements during message playback • Before each message, you will hear the da y and time it was received.

You can recor d a memo as a reminder to yourself or leave a message for someone else if others in your household use the answering system. Memos are saved, played back and delet ed exactl y like incoming messages.

Answering system operation R emot e access A three-digit security code is r equired to access your answering system from any t ouch-tone telephone. This code is 500 by default, see Changing f eature options (page 24) to change it.

Appendix T r oubleshooting • T est a working telephone at the same telephone jack. If another telephone has the same problem, the pr oblem is in the telephone jack. Contac t your local telephone company (charges ma y apply). • The telephone line cord might be malfunctioning.
Appendix T r oubleshooting My caller ID features ar e not working properly . • Caller ID is a subscription service. Y ou must subscribe to this service from your local t elephone company for this feature t o work on your telephone. • The caller may not be calling from an area which supports caller ID.
Appendix T r oubleshooting The answering system does not respond to remote c om- mands. • Make sure your r emote acc ess code is corr ect (page 30). • Make sure you ar e calling from a t ouch-tone telephone. When dialing a number , you should hear tones.
