15 Setting Up Y our Scanner Setting Up Y o ur Scanner These guidelines will help you inst all and use your new scanner: • If you r scanner recei ves interfe rence or elect rical noise, move the scann er or its antenna away from the source.
16 Setting Up Y our Scanner 3. Install t wo batteri es in the comp artment as indicated by the pol arity symbols (+ and -) marked inside. 4. R eplace t he cover . Cautions: • Use only fr esh batteri es of the requ ired size and recommended type. • When flashes and the scann er beeps every 15 sec onds, repl ace both bat teries.
17 Setting Up Y our Scanner • Do not mi x old and new batteri es, dif ferent types of batteri es (st andard, alk aline, or rechargeab le), or rechargea ble batteries of dif ferent capaci ties. • If yo u use rechar geable batt eries in stead of alkaline batt eries, ma ke sure they are full y charged.
18 Setting Up Y our Scanner Note: Always use 50-ohm, RG-58, or RG-8, coaxial cable to connec t an out door antenna. If the antenna is over 1 5 metres f rom the scanne r , use RG-8 l ow- loss dielectri c coaxial cable. Y ou can get a BN C adapter at your local elec tronics stor e.

23 About Y our Scanner A Look At T he Display The display has indic ators that show the scanner' s current oper ating st atus. The display informati on helps you unders ta nd how your scanner operates. BANK - appears with number s ( 1 - 5 ). - appear s when you l ock the k eypad.
24 About Y our Scanner L/O - appears when you manually select a channel you locked out or a skip freq uency . DLY - appears when you sel ect a del ay .
25 Operation Oper atio n T urnin g On The Scanner and Setting Squelch Note: Make sur e the scanne r's an tenna is connected before you tur n it on. 1. Turn Squelch fully counte rclockwise. 2. Press and hold for about 2 seconds to turn the scanner on, then turn Vo l u m e clockwis e until you hear a hissing sound.
26 Operation 2 seconds after the end of a transmission be fore scanning proceeds to th e next channel. T o turn the function of f or on, press Func + Dly . • If yo u enter a frequency that has alread y been entered elsewher e, the scanner soun ds an error tone and displays the chann el that was duplicated.
27 Operation Not es: • If you have not stored fr equencies into any channels, t he scanner d oes not scan. • If the sc anner picks up unwanted p artial , or very weak tra nsmissio ns, turn Squelch clockwise t o decrease the scanner' s sensitivi ty to these signals.
28 Special Features S pecial Featu res Chain Searc h This feature let s you search through preset frequency r anges. Y ou can also chang e each range to a range you set. There are thr ee modes within this feat ure: chai n search mode, chain sea rch hold mode, and program band select mode.
29 Special Features BAND PLAN 3 See page 8 for how to swi tch the band between 1, 2 and 3. Chain Search Mode Press Func + Src to st art chain search mode. SRCH , the enabled search bank n umber , and or (indicating th e search direc tion) appear . The search bank number being searched flashes.

Storing Frequencies Found During Chain Search into Channel Memory Y ou can store frequencies you fi nd in chain search mode or chain search hold mode. 1. 31 Special Features Func + for about 1 second t o quickl y move through the search bank numbers . After choosing the searc h bank, fol low these steps to set t he lower li mit and upper limit f requency . 1. Enter the lower l imit frequ ency by usi ng the 0-9 and /Clr keys.
32 Special Features Not es: • If you selected al l frequencies t o be skipped within t he search r ange, the s canner beep s 3 times and doe s not searc h. • If you select mor e than 50 frequencies to skip, each new frequency replace s a frequency previously st ored, beginni ng with the first stored frequency .
33 Special Features • If the s canner is searching, press Func + Dly while the sca nner is searching. DLY appears and the scanner auto matically adds a 2-second delay to every f requency it stop s on in that band. T o turn off the 2- second delay , press Func + Dl y while the scanner i s monitoring a channel , scanning, or searching.
34 Special Features Follow thes e steps to s elect a d iff erent channe l as the priority channel . 1. M anually select t he channel y ou want to select as the priority channel . 2. Press Func + Pgm , then press Func + Pri . P appears t o the lef t of the sel ected channel number .
35 T roubleshooting T rou bleshoo ting If your UBC69XL T i s not perf orming properly , try the following st eps. Problem Possible Cause Suggestion The scanner doesn’t wor k. The scanner might not be receiv ing any power . Check the batter ies. Improper reception.
36 T roubleshooting Scan won’t stop ( continued ) The channel’ s frequency might not be stored in memory . Make sure the channel’ s frequency i s stored in the s canner ’ s memory . The channel might not be active. Wa i t f o r a transmission on the channel.
37 T roubleshooting Resetting the Scanner If the scanner's display locks up or stop s operati ng properly , you might need to reset the scanner . Caution: Thi s procedure clears a ll the in formation (except the band plan data) you have stored i n the scanner .
38 Care and Maintenance Care and Mainten ance Keep the scanner dry . If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately . Use and store the scanner only in normal temperat ure environment s. Handle the scanner caref ully: do n ot drop it. Keep the scanner away from dust and dirt, and wipe i t with a d amp cloth occasiona lly to keep it loo king new .
39 Care and Maintenance • Clean t he outside of the s canner with a mild detergent. • T o prevent scratch es, do not use abrasive cleaners or solve nts. Be caref ul not to rub th e LCD window . • Do not us e excessive amounts of water . Rep airs Do not attempt any rep air .
