GETTING ST ARTED [ 9 ] INST ALLING AND ADJUSTING GETTING ST ARTED C. Connect the base unit 1) Connect the A C adapter to the DC IN 9V jack to a stand ard 120V AC wall outlet. 2) Set the base and char ger on a desk or tabletop, and place th e handset in the base unit as shown.
[ 10 ] GETTING ST ARTED D. Choose the dialing mode Most ph one systems use ton e dialin g which sen ds DTMF ton es through th e phon e lines. H owever some ph one system s still use pulse dialing. Pulse dialin g is often foun d in rural ar eas. Th e default settin g is tone di aling.
[ 11 ] GETTING ST ARTED Setting Caller ID Options GETTING ST ARTED Ther e are two Caller ID setup option s available . They ar e AutoT alk and Area Cod e - see page 12 for Ar ea Code setup in structi ons. AutoT alk is a feature that allows you to pick up th e call without pressin g the talk k ey .
GETTING ST ARTED [ 12 ] Entering Y our Area Code Area Code pr ogramming If you enter a 3-di git area code n umber in the Ar ea Code opti on, your local area cod e does not appear in Caller ID m essages . Do not pr ogram this option, if your callin g area requir es 10-digit di aling.
[ 13 ] GETTING ST ARTED Registering Additional Handsets When you pur chase addition al handsets , those han dsets need to be register ed before use . Y our DCT4960-2 is expan dable up to 4 han dsets.
GETTING ST ARTED [ 14 ] Resetting the Handset This feature allows you to clear (er ase) all the selection s and settin gs of the han dset. After you have reset the han dset, you must chan ge th e digital security code an d re-register th e handset bef ore use (see pag e 38).
[ 15 ] GETTING ST ARTED Selecting Hold Reminder Interval This feature r eminds you with the beep that som eone is on h old. Th e LCD displays “ Line On Hold “ to remin d you. The opti ons for th e Hold Remin der in clude: Off/15/30/45/60 secon ds.

[ 21 ] BASICS T one Dialing Switch-over Some teleph one companies use equipm ent that r equire pulse dialin g (sometimes r eferred to as r otary dialin g). If you need to en ter tone dialin g digits , you can switch-over to tone di aling durin g the call.

BASICS [ 2 3 ] BASICS Flash and Call W aiting If you subscribed to Call W aiting Caller ID (combined service), you will r eceive Caller ID informati on (if available) from Call W aiting calls . During a ph one call, you will hear a beep to in dicate the pr esence o f a Call W aiting call.
