They ar e Caller ID option s [AutoT alk, CIDCW (Caller ID on Call W aiting), an d Area Cod e], Dial Mod e and Lan guag e. AutoT alk allows you to answer th e phone with out pressin g the t alk/flash button.
[ 16 ] T o enter your Area Cod e If you enter a 3-di git area code n umber in the Area Code option, your local area cod e does not appear in Caller ID m essages . Do not progr am this option, if your calling ar ea requires 10-di git dialin g. When r eviewing Caller ID m essages , you will see only the local seven di git number .
GETTING ST ARTED [ 1 7 ] GETTING ST ARTED Choosing the dial mode Most ph one systems use ton e dialin g which sen ds D TMF tones thr ough the phon e lines . However , some ph one system s still use pulse dialin g such as in rur al areas . The d efault setting is ton e dialin g.
Making and Receiving Calls Pick up th e handset (AutoT alk), or pick up th e handset and pr ess talk/flash . 1)Pick up th e handset. 2) Pr ess t alk/flash . 3) Listen for th e dial tone . 4) Dial th e number . OR 1)Pick up th e handset. 2 ) Di al the number , th en press talk/flash .

Redial The redial/p key r edials the last n umber dialed. Th e redialed n umber can be up to 32 digits lon g. • The ton e feature only applies wh en the di al mode is set to pulse . • This special n umber can be stored in a mem ory location. This is referr ed to as Chain Dialin g (See page 27.
[ 21 ] BASICS BASICS Y ou must subscribe thr ough your local telephon e company to receive Call W aiting Servi ce . Flash and Call W aiting If you have "Call W aiting" service an d a call waiting ton e sounds while you ar e on a call, press t alk/flash to accept the waitin g call.
[ 22 ] In mem ory dialing operati on, you must press a k ey within 30 seconds . Otherwise , an error ton e will sound and th e phone will return to stan dby . If you return th e handset to th e base, the ph one will return to standby also. Storing Phone Numbers and Names Mem ory Dialing allows you to di al a number usin g just a few key pr esses.

[ 31 ] ROCKETDIAL ROCKETDIAL RocketDial Y ou can store your most fr equently di aled number in the RocketDi al. The RocketDi al allows you to dial a number with one key pr ess. (Ther e is no need to pr ess t alk/flash . The phon e will automati cally dial the n umber stored.
Deleting the RocketDial 1) When th e phone is in th e standby mod e , press an d hold RocketDial . Following display appears . 2) Press or to select “ Delete Number ” . 3) Pr ess select . Following display appears . 4) Press to move the poin ter to “ Yes ” .
CALLER ID FEA TURES [ 3 3 ] CALLER ID FEA TURES Caller ID Y ou must subscribe to Caller ID service to use this feature. When th e telephone rin gs, th e Caller ID feature allows you to vi ew the caller ’ s nam e and phon e number on th e display befor e you answer the ph one .
[ 34 ] • In Caller ID operati on, if no key is pressed f or more than 30 seconds , an error ton e sounds and th e telephone return s to the standby m ode . • If a call comes in vi a a telephon e system that does n ot offer Caller ID service , no inform ation is stored .
[ 35 ] CALLER ID FEA TURES CALLER ID FEA TURES Deleting Information from the Caller ID List The EXAI2248 seri es stores up to 30 m essages . If the phon e receives th e 31st messag e, th e oldest on e in the list is autom atically d eleted. Caller ID d ata can also be deleted m anually .
[ 36 ] Using the Caller ID List • Y ou cannot m ake a call from th e Caller ID list if your EXAI2248 series is conn ected to a private bran ch ex change (PBX). • When a lon g distance call has been set, “ 1 ” appears in the display . 3)Press or to select “ Yes ” or “ No ” .
[ 37 ] CALLER ID FEA TURES CALLER ID FEA TURES Storing Caller ID messages in Memory dialing Messag es shown in the Caller ID list can be stor ed in mem ory dialing. Usin g the incomin g call inform ation (i.e ., Caller ID list), the phon e number of the party on th e Caller ID list can be stored in m emory .
The Integrated Answering Device The EXAI2248 seri es has a built-in answerin g system that answers an d records incomin g calls. Y ou can also use your answerin g system to recor d a conversation, leave a voice m emo messag e , or to announ ce a special outg oing m essage to callers when you'r e away from your phon e .
