1 Chapter 1 Introduction This Chapter provides an overview of the Broadband Router's features and capabilities. Congratulations on the purchase of y our new Broadband Router. The TW100-BRF114U is a multi-funct ion device providing the fol lowing services: • Shared Broadband Internet Access for all LAN users.
Broadband Router User Guide 2 • Fixed or Dynamic IP Address. On the Internet (WAN port) connection, the TW100- BRF114U supports both Dynam ic IP Address (IP Address is all ocated on connection) and Fixed IP Address. Advanced Internet Functions • Communication Applications.
Introduction 3 • Remote Management. The TW100-BRF114U can be managed from any PC on your LAN. And, if the Internet connection exi sts, it can also (opti onally) be configured via the Internet. • Network Diagnostics. You can use the TW100-BRF114U to perform a Ping or DNS lookup .

6 Chapter 2 Installation This Chapter covers the physical i nstallation of the Broadband Rout er. Requirements • Network cables. Use standard 10/100BaseT network (UTP) cabl es with RJ45 connectors. • TCP/IP protocol m ust be installed on all PCs. • For Internet Access, an Internet Access account wi th an ISP, and either a DSL or Cable modem .
Introduction 7 3. Connect WAN Cable Connect the DSL or Cable m odem to the WAN port on the TW100-BRF114U. Use t he cable supplied with y our DSL/Cable m odem. If no cable was supplie d, use a standard ca- ble. 4. Connect Printer Cable Use a standard USB printer cable to connect your p rinter to the USB Printer po r t on the TW100-BRF114U.
8 Chapter 3 Setup This Chapter provides Set up details of the TW100-BRF114U. Overview This chapter describes the setup procedure for: • Internet Access • LAN configuration • Assigning a Password to protect the confi guration data. PCs on your local LAN m ay also require configurati on.
Setup 9 Configuration Program The TW100-BRF114U contains an HTTP server. This enables you t o connect to it, and con- figure it, using your Web Browser. Your Brow ser must support JavaScript . The configuration program has been tested on the following browsers: • Netscape V4.
Broadband Router User Guide 10 If you can't connect If the TW100-BRF114U does not respond, check the following: • The TW100-BRF114U is properly instal led, LAN connection is OK, and i t is powered ON. You can test the connection by using the "Ping" comm and: • Open the MS-DOS window or com mand prom pt window.
Setup 11 Setup Wizard The first time you connect to the TW100-BRF114U , the Setup Wizard will run automatically. (The Setup Wizard will also run if the TW 100-BRF114U's default setting are restored.) 1. Step through the Wizard until finished. • You need to know the type of Internet connect ion service used by your ISP.
Broadband Router User Guide 12 PPTP, L2TP PPTP and L2TP are mainly used in Europe. You connect to the ISP only when required. The IP address is usually allocated auto mati- cally, but may be Static (Fixed). • Server Address. • User name and password.
Setup 13 Home Screen After finishing the Setup W izard, you will see the Home screen. Wh en you connect in future, you will see this screen when you connect .

Setup 15 DHCP What DHCP Does A DHCP (Dynami c Host Configuration Prot ocol) Server allocates a valid IP address to a DHCP Client (PC or device) upon request. • The client request is m ade when the client device starts up (boots). • The DHCP Server provides the Gateway and DNS addresses to the client, as well as allocating an IP Address.

Figure 7: Password Screen Once you have assigned a password to the TW100-BRF114U (on the Password screen above) you will be prompted for the password when you connect, as shown below.
17 Chapter 4 PC Configuration This Chapter detail s the PC Configurat ion required on the local ("Int ernal") LAN. Overview For each PC, the following may need to be configured: • TCP/IP n.

PC Configuration 19 • On the Gateway tab, enter the TW100-BRF114U's IP address in the New Gateway field and click Add , as shown below. Select the appropriate radio button - Obtain an IP address from a DHC P Server or Specify an IP Address , as explained below. Obtain an IP address from a DHCP Server This is the default Windows setting.

PC Configuration 29 Printer Setup for Windows The TW100-BRF114U provides printing support for 2 methods for pri nting from Windows: • Print Port Driver. After installi ng the Print Port Driver, Windows users can print di- rectly to the TW100-BRF114U Print jobs are spooled (queued) on each PC.

Broadband Router User Guide 32 LPD/LPR Printing LPD/LPR printing can be used wit h Windows NT 4.0 Server or Windows 2000/2003. No software needs to be installed o n client PCs. Windows NT 4.0 Server Configuration To use LPD printing, Microsoft TCP/IP Printing must be installed and enabled.
PC Configuration 33 Windows 2000/2003 Server Configuration The LPD/LPR Port is not enabled by default . To enable it, use this procedure: 1. In Control Panel, select Add/Remove Program s, then Windows Component s. 2. Select Other Network File and Pri nt Services , then click the Details button.

Broadband Router User Guide 36 Macintosh Clients From your Macintosh, you can access the Inte rnet via the TW100-BRF114U. The procedure is as follows. 1. Open the TCP/IP Control Panel. 2. Select Ethernet from the Connect via pop-up m enu. 3. Select Using DHCP Server from the Confi gure pop-up menu.
PC Configuration 37 Printing Setup on Linux The TW100-BRF114U supports LPD Printing on Linux. The procedure t o install a LPD printer is detailed below, but may vary accord ing to your version of Linux and X -windows shell. 1. In your X Windows shell, select Control Panel , then Printer Configuration .
38 Chapter 5 Operation and Status This Chapter details the operation of the Broadband Router and use of the status screens. Operation Once both the TW100-BRF114U and the PCs are configured, operation is automatic.
Operation and Status 39 Data - Status Screen Internet Connection Method This indicates the current connect ion method, as set i n the Setup Wizard. Broadband Modem This shows the connection status of the m odem.

47 Chapter 6 Advanced Features This Chapter explains when and how to use the TW100-BRF114U 's "Ad- vanced" Features. Overview The following advanced features are provided.
Broadband Router User Guide 48 Access Control Screen To view this screen, select the Access Control link on the Advanced m enu. Figure 33: Access Control Screen Data - Access Control Screen Group Group Select the desired Group. The sc reen will update to display the settings for the selected Group.
Advanced Features 49 Internet Access Restrictions Select the desired options for t he current group: • None - Nothing is blocked. Use th is to create the least restric- tive group. • Block all Internet access - All traffic via the WAN port is blocked.

Advanced Features 51 Default Schedule Screen This screen is displayed when the Define Schedule button on the Access Control screen is clicked. • This schedule can be (optionall y) applied to any Access Cont rol Group. • Blocking will be performed dur in g the scheduled time (between the "Start" an d "Finish" times.

Advanced Features 53 Cancel Clear the " Add New Service " area, ready for entering data for a new Service. Access Control Log To check the operation of the Access Control feature, an Access Control Log is provided. Click the View Log button on the Access Control screen to view this log.
Broadband Router User Guide 54 Dynamic DNS This free service is very usef ul when combined with the Virtual Server feature. It allows Internet users to connect to your Vi rtual Serv ers using a URL, rather than an IP Address. This also solves the problem of having a dynami c IP address.
Advanced Features 55 • Details of your DDNS account (Name, password, Dom ain name) must then be entered and saved on t his screen. • This device will then automatically ensure that yo ur current IP Address is recorded by the DDNS Service Provider.

Name Enter a descriptive name to identify th is Sp ecial Application. Incoming Ports • Type - Select the protocol (TCP or UDP) used when you receive data from the special application or service.
Advanced Features 59 The "DMZ PC" is effectively outside the Firew all, mak- ing it more vulnerable to attacks. For this reason, y ou should only enable the DMZ feature when required. URL Filter The URL Filter allows you to block access to undesirable Web site • To use this feature, you must define "filter string s".

Advanced Features 63 From the Internet, ALL Virtual Servers have the IP Address allocated by y our ISP. Connecting to the Virtual Servers Once configured, anyone on the Internet can conn ect to your Virtual Se rvers. They must use the Internet IP Address (the IP Address allocat ed to you by your ISP).

67 Chapter 7 Advanced Administration This Chapter explains the settings avail able via the "Administration" section of the menu. Overview Normally, it is not necessary to use these scr eens, or change any settings.
Broadband Router User Guide 68 Config File This feature allows you to downl oad the current settings from the TW100-BRF114U, and save them to a file on your PC. You can restore a previously-downloaded confi guration file to t he TW100-BRF114U, by uploading it to t he TW100-BRF114U.
Advanced Administration 69 Logs The Logs record various types of activit y on the TW100-BRF114U. This data i s useful for troubleshooting, but enabling all l ogs will generate a large amount of data and adversely affect performance.
Broadband Router User Guide 70 Timezone Select the correct Timezone for y our locat ion. This is required for the date/time shown on the lo gs to be correct. E-Mail Reports Send E-mail alert If enabled, an E-mail will be sent immediately if a DoS (Denial of Service) attack is detected.

Advanced Administration 73 Allow Internet access to be disabled • If checked, then UPnP users can disable Internet access via this device. • If Disabled, UPnP users can NOT disable Internet access via this device. But currently, t his restriction onl y applies to users running Windows XP, who access the Properties via UPnP.
Broadband Router User Guide 74 PC Database The PC Database is used whenever you need to select a PC (e.g. for the "DMZ" PC). It elimi- nates the need to enter IP addresses. Also, y ou do not need to use fixed IP addresses on your LAN. PC Database Screen An example PC Database screen is shown below.
Advanced Administration 75 Data - PC Database Screen Known PCs This lists all current entries. Data displayed is name (IP Address) type . The "type" indicates whether the PC is connected to the LAN. Name If adding a new PC to th e list, en ter its name here.

Advanced Administration 79 Routing Overview • If you don't have other R outers or Gateways on your LAN, y ou can ignore the "Routing" page completely. • If the TW100-BRF114U is only acting as a Gat eway for the local LAN segm ent, ignore the "Routing" page even if your LAN has ot her Routers.

Advanced Administration 81 Properties • Destination Network - The network address of the remote LAN segment. For standard class "C " LANs, the network address is the first 3 fields of the Desti nation IP Address. The 4th (last) field can be left at 0.

Use the Special Applicati ons feature to allow the use of Internet appli cations which do not function correct ly. If this does solve the problem you can use the DMZ function.
