7 Basic Operation Before using the T .sonic ™ 820 for the first time you need to charge the internal battery for at least 12 hours by plugging it into a computer using the Mini USB to USB A-T ype cable. Charging the Battery Plug the small end of the Mini USB to USB A-T ype cable into the Mini USB connector on the T .
8 Power OFF Press and Hold the “POWER ON-OFF” button to Power OFF the T .sonic ™ 820 . It takes a few seconds t o Power OFF the unit. The Color OLED screen will display the Power OFF status. Play a Track Press the “PLA Y/P AUSE” button to play a selected Music, Video, Photo, E-book, or Recorded file.
9 File Navigation Press the “Navigation” button in the MUSIC , RECORD , VIDEO , PHOT O , or E-book Mode to enter the File Navigator for that mode. Make an Audio Recording The Default Recording Mode for the T .sonic ™ 820 is its Bu ilt-in Microphone .
10 MUSIC Mode If you want to buy DRM (Digit al Rights Management) music online please be advised that the T .sonic ™ 820 only support s WMA-DRM10 music files and you must use the MTP Music T ransfer Mode to transfer the files to the player . Play MP3, WMA and WMA-DRM10 (Subscription) Music 1.
11 File Navigator Mode The File Navigator is a fast and con venient way of moving between tracks, files and folders. Y ou can also use the File Navigator to select Music files for your own personal Playlist. The order in which you select files for inclusion in your Playlist is the order the files will be played.
12 5. Press the “Volume Up” button , or “Volume Down” button to select the Remove from playlist option, press the “PLAY/PAUSE” button to remove it from your Playlist. Delete a file in the MUSIC Mode 1. In the MUSIC Mode, Press the “Navigation” button to enter the Navigator .
13 RADIO Mode Listen to the Radio 1. The Earphones must be plugged in to listen to the Radio. 2. Press the “Menu” button to enter the Main Menu. 3. Press the “Volume Up” button , or “Volume Down” button until you reach the “RADIO” icon.
14 Saving a Radio Station Y ou can save your 9 favorite Radio stations from CH 01 to CH 9 in the T .sonic ™ 820 ’s memory . 1. Select the Radio station (FM frequency) that you wish to save. 2. Press the “Navigation” button to display the channel numbers 1 to 9 at the screen.
15 6. Press and Hold the “RECORD” button for more than 2 seconds during a recording to stop the recording and the screen will return to the RADIO Mode. 7. Radio Recordings are saved in the RECORD Mode in the [/FMIN.DIR/] folder, Recorded Radio files are saved in the order [Month/DayF001.
16 RECORD Mode Record Sound The T .sonic ™ 820 has advanced recording features and is capable of recording audio from 4 different sources: FM Radio , Built-In Microphone , External Microphone , or Line-In (e.g. CD Player), all are capable of making very high quality Audio Recordings.
17 Record using the Built-In Microphone 1. Unless otherwise selected, Pressing and Holding the “RECORD” button for more than 2 seconds in any mode except the RADIO Mode will begin an audio recordi ng using the T.sonic ™ 820 ’s Built-in Microphone.
18 Record using the External Microphone 1. In the REC INPUT DEVICE Mode select Ext MIC ( External Microphon e ) as the recording device. 2. Plug an External Microphone into the T.sonic ™ 820 ’s Line-In port. 3. Press and Hold the “RECORD” button for more than 2 seconds to begin an audio recording using the External Microphone .
19 Record using the Line-In connection 1. In the REC INPUT DEVICE Mode select Line-In as the recording device. 2. Plug the Line-In cable into the T.sonic ™ 820 ’s Line-In port and connect the other end of the Line-In cable to a compatible source device e.
20 Play a Recorded Sound File 1. Press the “Menu” button to enter the Main Menu. 2. Press the “Volume Up” button , or “Volume Down” button until you reach the “RECORD” icon. Press the “PLAY/PAUSE” button , or “Next-Fast Forward” button to enter the RECORD Mode.
21 Delete a file in the RECORD Mode 1. Press the “Navigation” button to enter the Navigator . 2. Press the “Volume Up” button , or “Volume Down” button to select a folder.
22 VIDEO Mode If you want to play Videos on your T .sonic ™ 820 you must convert your Video file(s) to the ‘.mtv’ file format before transferring the Video to the player . Play MTV Video files on your T.sonic ™ 820 1. Press the “Menu” button to enter the Main Menu.
23 5. Pressing the “Back-Fast Rewind” button repeatedly will take you back to the root directory [/Root.DIR/] (top folder level). 6. Pressing the “Back-Fast Rewind” button in the root directory [/Root.D IR/] (top folder level) will quit the Navigator .
24 PHOT O Mode If you want to display Photos on your T .soni c ™ 820 you must select a ‘.jpg’ or ‘.bmp’ photo file to transfer to the player . Display JPG and BMP Phot o files on your T.sonic ™ 820 1. Press the “Menu” button to enter the Main Menu.
25 Delete a file in the PHOTO Mode 1. Press the “Navigation” button to enter the Navigator . 2. Press the “Volume Up” button , or “Volume Down” button to select a folder.
26 E-book Mode If you want to read E-books on your T .sonic ™ 820 you must select a ‘.txt’ E-book file to transfer to the player . Read TXT E-book files on your T.sonic ™ 820 1. Press the “Menu” button to enter the Main Menu. 2. Press the “Volume Up” button , or “Volume Dow n” button until you reach the “E-book” icon.
27 6. Pressing the “Back-Fast Rewind” button in the root directory [/Root.D IR/] (top folder level) will quit the Navigator . Delete a file in the E-book Mode 1. Press the “Navigation” button to enter the Navigator . 2. Press the “Volume Up” button , or “Volume Down” button to select a folder.
28 Settings Enter the Settings Menu 1. Press the “Menu” button to enter the Main Menu. 2. Press the “Volume Up” button , or “Volume Dow n” button until you reach the “SETTINGS” icon. Press the “PLAY/PAUSE” button , or “Next-Fast Forw ard” button to enter the SETTINGS Mode.
29 Equalizer (EQ) Mode There are several EQUALIZER Modes to choose from: Normal, Pop, Rock, Classical, Jazz, Bass, or User EQ. 1. In the SETTINGS Menu, press the “Volume Up” / “Volume Dow n” ,.
30 3. Press the “PLAY/PAUSE” button to save the new User EQ settings and return to the EQUALIZER Mode. Screen Saving Sets a time delay for the screen to (1) go Blank , (2) display the Logo , (3) display the Song T itle , (4) display Clock , or (5) display Photos , if no buttons are being pressed e.
31 Sleep Sets a time delay to automatically Power OFF the T .sonic ™ 820 even during operation. 1. In the SETTINGS Menu, press the “Volume Up” / “Volume Dow n” , or “Next-Fast Forward” / “Back-Fast Rewind” buttons to select the Sleep icon, then press the “PLAY/PAUSE” button to enter the SLEEP Mode.
32 Language Sets the T .sonic ™ 820 ’s User language, includ ing the display of song and artist tit les. The player supports 13 User languages. 1. In the SETTINGS Menu, press the “Volume Up” /.
33 Playback Speed The speed at which you listen to an audio file can be increased, or decreased. Playback speeds can b e set to 0.67x, 0.8x, 1.0x, 1.14x and 1.
34 Media Transfer Modes T o transfer Multimedia files to your T .sonic ™ 820 you must select one of two Media T ransfer Modes. One mode is the MTP ( Media T ransfer Protocol ) Media Tr ansfer Mode a.
35 2. Press the “Volume Up” button , or “Volume Down” button to select USB , press t he “PLAY/PAUSE” button to confirm the selection and return to the SETTINGS Menu. 3. In the USB Mode (WMA-DRM10 NOT supported) you can dr ag and drop files onto any media specific folders that you have created, or onto the T.
36 Slideshow Timer Sets a time delay for the photo that is currently being displayed on the screen to change to the next photo. Y ou must use the SlideShow Maker software application to setup a photo slideshow . The Slideshow feature will only work on “.
37 3. After scrolling through the Time and Date you will have the option of enabling/disabling the Daylight Saving Time (DST) feature. 4. Press the “Volume Up” button , or “Volume Down” button to ENABLE , or DISA BLE the DST feature and press the “PLAY/PAUSE” butt on to confirm your selections and return to the RTC Menu.
38 REC Quality The quality of an audio recording ca n be set to Low (8,000Hz), Medium (16,000Hz), or High (32,000Hz), but the higher you set the Recording Quality the greater the memory sp ace required to save the resulting W A V file.
39 REC Input Device Select the MIC ( Built-In Microphone ), Ext MIC ( External Microphone ) or LINE-IN (e.g. CD Player ) to be the Audio Recording method used by the T .
40 About Displays information about the T .sonic ™ 820 ’ s firmware version and memory capacity . 1. In the SETTINGS Menu, press the “Volume Up” / “Volume Dow n” , or “Next-Fast Forward.
41 Driver Inst allation Driver Installation for Windows ® Me, 2000 and XP No drivers are required. These Windows ® Operating Systems have built-in drivers to support the T .sonic ™ 820 . Plug your T .sonic ™ 820 into an available USB port and Windows ® will inst all the necessary files.
42 Connecting to a Computer If you want to buy and play WMA-DRM10 (only) music files, or you are using Windows Media Player 10 you must choose the MTP (Media T ransfer Protocol) Music T ransfer Mode to transfer and synchronize music files between the computer and your T .
43 Download and Upload Music and other Files If you want to buy and play WMA-DRM10 (only) music files, y ou must select Windows Media Player 10 to transfer and synchronize your WMA-DRM10 music files with the T .sonic ™ 820’ s MTP Folder . Other than the Radio, if you want to be entertained by your T .
44 3. After you connect the T.sonic ™ 820 to a computer its screen will display a “ READY ” message, indicating that files can be loaded onto the player. If you are u sing Windows ® a new Removable Disk drive with a newly assigned drive letter representing the T.
45 Disconnecting from a Computer Before removing your T .sonic ™ 820, always ensure the Color OLED Display is not in the READ/WRITE status, otherwise your files or T .sonic ™ 820 may be damaged. Removing the T.sonic ™ 820 in Windows ® Me, 2000 and XP 1.
46 T .sonic ™ Sof tware The T .sonic ™ 820 comes with some very useful bundled software that can increase your productivity and enhance your entertainment experience. The three sof tware applications that come with your T .sonic ™ are: T ranscend Multimedia Converter Slideshow Maker T .
47 3. The T.sonic ™ Software Menu window will appear. Select the “ Transcend Multimedia Converter ” , “ Slideshow Maker , ” or “ T.sonic ™ Utility ” software option and click on the “Next” button to begin installing the software program.
48 T ranscend Multimedia Converter If you want to play Video s on your T .sonic ™ 820 you must convert your V ideo files to the ‘.mtv’ file form at using the T ranscend Multimedia Converter before transferring the V ideo files to the player . The T .
49 3. After you select a Video file for conversion to the “.mtv” format, click on the “Video Output” button to select a destination for the converted file. Figure 15. 50 Slideshow Maker If you want to use the Slideshow feature on your T .sonic ™ 820 you must first, convert your Photo files to the ‘.sls’ file format using the Slideshow Maker , t hen transfer the Slideshow files to the player . The T .sonic ™ 820 will only display a Slideshow of your Photos if they are converted to the “.
51 3. You can Preview the Photo files that you are going to convert in the Preview P anel. After you select all the Photo files that you want to convert to the “.sls” format, click on the “Transform” button to continue. Figure 20. Preview and S tart Converting 4.

54 PC-Lock Function When the PC-Lock Function is enabled, you can use your T .sonic ™ as a key to lock your computer protecting it from use by others. The PC-Lock function is not supported in the Mac ™ or Linux ™ Operating Systems. T o use the PC-Lock function, you must log in to the Windows OS with Administrator right s.
55 3. After selecting the Enable PC-Lock you can type the Text to be displayed on the screen while the computer is locked. Figure 28. Screen Saver T ext 4. If you want to set a timer to automatic ally unlock your computer select the “Enable Timer” option.
56 5. Click on the “OK” button to start the PC-Lock . Figure 30. Enable PC-Lock Lock Your Computer After the PC-Lock function is enabled, your computer will be locked when ever you remove your T .sonic ™ . When your computer is locked, the screen will display the T ext screen saver .
57 Boot-Up Function If you are using the Windows ® 98SE* Operating Systems the T .sonic ™ can be configured to act as an MS-DOS Boot Disk. Afte r you setup the T .sonic ™ you can use it to boot-up your computer , allowing you to run MS-DOS programs; this does not make the T .
58 The T .sonic ™ and your computer system are now set up, so your T .sonic ™ can be used to Boot-Up the computer . If you are using the T .sonic ™ to Boot-Up your computer the disk will be assigned a drive letter on the computer . Part of the Boot-Up device setup process involves Boot-Up files being placed on the T .
59 Partition & Security Function Enabling this feature allows you to setup a secure area on the T .sonic ™ to protect your personal information with a Private Password. Y ou can partition the T .sonic ™ into Public and Private Password protected areas.
60 Use the T.sonic ™ Security Features 1. Click on the “Login/Logout” button in the T.sonic Utility window. Figure 36. T .sonic Utility Logi n/out 2. The Login/out window will appear. In put your Password and click on the “Login” button to enter the T.
61 2. The New P ass word window will appear. Input your current “Password , ” a “New Password , ” “Confirm Password” and a “New Password Hint” (a reminder, should you forget your password). Click on the “OK” button to complete the New Password setup.
62 Restoring Factory Default s If your T .sonic ™ 820 ever stop s working properly , try Powering it OFF and ON a number of times. Alternatively you can try to solve the problem by “ Resetting ” the unit. If neither of these options solv es the problem, you can use the T .
63 T roubleshooting If a problem occurs with your T .sonic ™ 820 , please first check the information listed below before t aking your T .sonic ™ 820 for rep air . If you are unable to remedy a problem from the following hints, please consult your dealer , service center , or local T ranscend branch of fice.
64 Cannot enter the RECORD Mode T o make sure the record ed file will not be lost, two safety mechanisms are provided. 1. If the remaining battery capacity is less than 10%, you cannot enter the RECORD Mode. 2. During recording, if the remaining battery capacity goes below 10% the T.
65 Cannot play a Vide o file on my T.sonic ™ 820? The T .sonic ™ 820 only supports “.MTV” V ideo files, please see the “ T ranscend Multimedia Converter ” section on how to convert your videos to the MTV format.
