8 Introduction Structure of disc contents Normally , D VD video discs are divided into titles, and the titles are sub-divided into chapters. VIDEO CDs/audio CDs are divided into trac ks. Each title, chapter , or track is assigned a number , which is called “ title n umber ” , “ chapter number ” or “ track number ” respectively .
9 Introduction Play able discs This play er can play the f ollowing discs. • Y ou cannot play discs other than those listed abo ve. • Y ou cannot play discs of D VD-RAM or non-standardized discs, etc., e v en if they may be labeled as abo ve. • This play er uses the NTSC color system.

15 Introduction Gently insert a fingernail in groove 1 and pull out the holder in direction 2 . T ake care not to break your fingernail. Place a coin-shaped battery (CR2025) with the side up on the holder . K eep the holder horizontal so that the batter y does not f all through.

18 Basic playback DVD-V VCD CD Basic playback Playing a Disc This section shows you the basics on how to play a disc. indicates a reference page of this manual. See the page in for details. CAUTION • Keep your fingers clear of the disc as it is spinning.
19 Basic playback T o obtain a higher quality picture (When connected to a TV) Occasionally , some picture noise not usually visible during a normal broadcast may appear on the TV screen while playing a D VD video disc because the high resolution pictures on these discs include a lot of information.
20 Basic playback 1 Press SETUP dur ing stop . The f ollowing on-screen display appears . 2 Press / to select “ (LANGU AGE MENU) ” , then press ENTER . 3 Press / to select “ OSD Menu ” , then press ENTER . 4 Select a language using / , then press ENTER .
21 Basic playback About the screen saver If 20 minutes elapse while the po wer is on and there is no disc in the pla yer or while the disc is stopped, the screen sav er is automatically display ed (when “ Screen Sav er ” is set to “ On ” 51 ).
