4 25) Always place the TV on the floor or a sturd y , level, stable surface th a t can suppo rt the weight of the unit. T o secure the TV , use a st urdy stra p from the hook(s) on the rear of the TV to a wall stud, pillar , or other immovable structure.

When the TV is turned off us ing the on/ off switch, it is not com ple tely disconnected from power and a minute amount of curr ent is still con- sumed. 41) During normal use, the TV may make occas ional snapping or popping sounds.

9 Features of your new TV The following are just a few of the many exciting features of your new T oshiba widescree n, integrated HD, LCD TV : • Integrated digital tuning (8VSB A TSC and QAM) eliminates the need for a separate digital converter set-top box (in most cases).

13 Overview of cable types Cables can be purchased fr om most stores that sell audio/video devices. Befo re purchasin g any cables, be sure of connector types required by your devices and the length of each cable.
14 Chapter 2: Connecting your TV Connecting a VCR and antenna, Cable TV or Camcorder Y ou will need: • Coaxial cables • Standard A/V cables - If you have a mono VCR, connect L / MON O on the TV to your VCR’s audio out terminal using the white audio cable only.

16 Chapter 2: Connecting your TV Connecting an HDMI ® or DVI device to the HDMI input The HDMI input on your TV recei ves digital audio and uncompressed digital video from an HDM I source device, or uncompressed digital video f rom a DVI (Digital V isual Interfac e) source device.
17 Chapter 2: Connecting your TV REGZA-LINK ® connection Y ou can contr ol the basic functions of connected audio/ video devices using the TV’ s remote control if you connect a REGZA-LINK compa tible audio receiver or pl aybac k device. For an ex planation of setup and operations, see page 48.
18 Chapter 2: Connecting your TV Connecting a digital audio system The TV’ s DIGIT AL AUDIO OUT terminal outputs a *Dolby ® Digital or 2-chan nel down-mixed PC M (pulse-code modulation) signal for use with an external Dolby ® Digital decoder or other external audio system with optical audio input.
19 Chapter 2: Connecting your TV Connecting a personal computer (PC) W i th either the RGB/PC IN or H DMI IN connection, you can watch your comput er ’ s display on the TV and hear the sound from the TV’ s speakers.
20 Installing the remote control batteries 1 Remove the battery cover from the back of the remote contro l. 2 Install two “AAA” size batteries, making sure to match the + and - signs on the batteries to the signs on the battery compartment. 3 Reinsert the battery cove r in the remote control until the tab snaps.

23 Chapter 4: Menu layout and na vigation Setup/Installation menu layout The Installation menu contains the T errestrial and System Status menus. T o open the Installation menu (illustrated be low), pr ess on the remote control or TV control panel, open the Setup menu, select Installation , and press .
24 Initial Setup When you first turn on or reset the TV , the Initial Setup window will appear . 1 In the Menu Language field, press W or X to select your preferred language. 2 Press S or T to select Time Zone Set up and set your desired time zone with W or X and press .
25 Chapter 5: Setting up your TV Programming channe ls automatically Y our TV can automatically detect all active channels in your area and store them in its memory . After the channels are programmed automatically , you can manually add or erase individual channels in the channel memory .
26 Chapter 5: Setting up your TV Setting channel skip T o prevent certain channels from being viewed, channel positions can be skipped. 1 From the Setup menu, highlight Installation and press . 2 Press S or T to select Channel Options and press . The list of channels will appear.

28 Chapter 5: Setting up your TV Viewing the digital signal meter Y ou c an view the digital signal meter in the ANT/ CABLE digital TV input source only . T o view the digital signal meter: 1 Press and open the Setup menu. 2 Highlight Installation and press .
29 Selecting the video input source to view T o select the video input sour ce to view: 1 Press on the remote control or TV control panel. 2 And then either: a) Press 0- 5; or b) Repeatedly pr ess S or T on the remote control and then press to change the input; or c) Repeatedly press on the remote control or TV control panel to change the input.

37 Chapter 6: Using the TV’ s featur es Using the closed caption mode Base closed ca ptions The closed ca ption mode has tw o options: • Captions- An on-screen display of the dialogue, narration, and sound ef fects of TV programs and videos that are closed ca ptioned (usually marked “CC” in program guides).
38 Chapter 6: Using the TV’ s featur es Y ou c an also use the CC Selector to select digital closed caption services (i f available) . When such services are not available, the CC Selector presents a default list of services. T o select closed capt ions: 1 Press and open the Prefer ences menu.
39 Chapter 6: Using the TV’ s featur es Note: • A second audio program (SAP) can be heard only on those TV stations that offer it. For example, a station might broadcast another language as a second audio program.
40 Chapter 6: Using the TV’ s featur es 2 Press T , which displays the PIN code entry screen. • The Lock System screen (below) appears if a PIN code has not been stored. Press the Channel Number buttons to enter a new four -digit code, enter the code a second time to confirm, and press .
41 Chapter 6: Using the TV’ s featur es Downloading an additiona l rating system for blocking TV progra ms and movies In the future, an additiona l rating system may become available for use in selectively blocking programs .
42 Chapter 6: Using the TV’ s featur es Note: • If you place an “ ” in the box next to "No ne" Rated , programs rated “ None ” will be blocked; however, programs that do not provide any rating information will not be blocked. • To display the rating of the program you are watching, press on the remote control.
43 Chapter 6: Using the TV’ s featur es 4 Press . Using the Game Timer ® Y ou c an use the Game Timer to set a time limit for playing a video game (30-120 minu tes). When the Game T imer expires, the TV enters Input Lock mode and locks out the input source for the video game device.
44 Chapter 6: Using the TV’ s featur es 3 Highlight PC Settings and press . Note: If a PC is not connected or there is no PC input signal, this feature will be grayed out in the Setup menu. 4 Press S or T to highlight the item you want to adjust. 5 Press W or X to make the appropriate adjustments.
45 Chapter 6: Using the TV’ s featur es Note: • Gently insert the USB device into the port and do not remove while viewing Med ia Player. • USB device: USB Mass Storage Class device (MSC) • Connectivity is not guaranteed for all devices. • Connect the USB device to the TV directly.
46 Chapter 6: Using the TV’ s featur es Single V iew In this view mode, only files located in the selected directory shall be displayed. This view allows you to change the photo content manually . When moving from Multi V iew to the Si ngl e V iew , the currently selected photo shall be disp layed.
47 Chapter 6: Using the TV’ s featur es Note: Sorting, Total Time display may not be available in all cases. Setting the sleep timer Y ou can set the sleep timer to turn off the TV after a set length of time (max imum of 180 minutes).

49 Chapter 6: Using the TV’ s featur es Note: • These functions depend on the devices that are connected. • The REGZA-LINK Player Control item will be grayed out in the following conditions: - A non-HDMI input is currently selected. - The Enable REGZA-L INK item is set to Off .

51 Using the advanced picture settings features Using Dynamic Contrast Dynamic Contrast de tects ch anges in picture quality that affect the appearance of your co ntrast setting s and then automatically adjusts the video. T o sel ect Dynamic Contrast preference: 1 From the Picture menu, highlight Picture Settings and press .
52 Chapter 7: Using the TV’ s advanced features T o change the CableClear s ettings: 1 Press and open the Picture menu, highlight Noise Reduction and press . 2 In the CableClear field, select your desired setting. Note: • If the current input is ANT/CABLE , Video , the menu will display the text “CableClear.
53 General troubleshooting Before calling a service technician, plea se check this chapter for a possible so lution to the problem experienced. Black box on-screen • The closed caption feature is set to one of the T ext modes ( T1 , T2 , T3 , or T4 ).
54 Chapter 8: T roubleshooting • If you are not receiving a seco nd audio program from a know n SAP source, m ake sure the MTS feature is set to SAP mode ( page 38). • If you hear audio that seems “inc orrect” for the program you ar e watching (such as music or a foreign language), the SAP mode may be on .
