TomTom START.
Getting started 1. 2 Get- ting started Mounting your navigation device 1. Push the EasyPort™ Mount on your TomTom START against the windshield in your car . 2. Adjust the angle of your device. 3. Lock the EasyPort Mount by twisting the base. 4. Insert the Car C harger into your de vice.
3 5. Insert the Car Charger into the cigar ette lighter in your car. 6. Switch your device on by pressing the On/Off button on the top of your device. 7. You now have to answer some questions to set up your device. Tap the screen to answer the questions.
4 First, check that the battery is properly ch arged. To charge the battery, connect your device to the car charg er. It can take up to 2 hours to fully charge the battery. If this does not solve the proble m, you can reset the device. First turn your devi ce off and wait for at least 10 seconds.
Driving View 2. 5 Driving View 1. Your current position. 2. The name of the next street or street sign in formation. 3. Your speed and the speed limit, if known. Tap this area to repeat the last spoken instruction and to change the volume . 4. Navigation instruction for the road ahead.
Advanced Lane Guidance 3. 6 Advan- ced Lane Gui- dance Advanced Lane Guidance Note : Lane guidance is not available for all junctions or in all countries. Your TomTom START helps you prepare for highway exits and junctions by showing the cor- rect driv ing lane for your planned route.
Main Menu 4. 7 Main Menu The Main Menu is the st arting point for planning a route, looking at a map or changing your device settings. To open the Main Menu from the Driving View, tap the center of the screen. To return to the Driving View from the Main Menu, tap done .
8 Night /Day night Tap this button to s et the night color scheme, which reduces the brightness of the screen and shows the map using dark colors. This is useful when driving at night or in dark environments such as long tunnels.
Browse map 5. 9 Browse map To look at the map in the sa me way as you might look at a tradit ional paper map, tap Browse map in the Main Menu. You can move the map by touching the screen and sliding your finger across the screen. 1. S cale bar 2. Marker Markers point to your current location, your home location and your destination.
Planning a route 6. 10 Plan- ning a route 1. Tap the screen to open the Main Menu. 2. Tap Plan route . You can enter an address in various ways, but we will enter the ful l address. 3. Tap Address . 4. Start to type the name of the to wn wher e your trip will begin an d tap on t he name when it appears in the list.

Tip : When you plan a route for the first time you are asked to select the country or state.
Finding alternative routes 7. 12 Fin- ding alterna - tive routes Once you have planned a route, you may want to change something about the route, without changing your destination. Reasons for changing a route Maybe for one of these reasons: • You can see a roadblock or a line of traffi c ahead.
13 Recalcula te original T ap this button to replan your original route. This button is shown when you have changed your route by calcula- ting an alternative. Travel via.. . T ap this button to change your route so that it passes a particular location, perhaps to pick someone up on the way .
Options 8. 14 Option s You can change the way your TomTom START looks and behaves. Tap options in the Main Menu . Change voice Set clock Change v oice Y our navigation device is able to provide spoken instructions and warnings using voices whi ch are stored on the device.

16 Keyboard preferences Switch map Reset factory settings Keyboard preferences Y ou use the keyboard to enter your destination or to find an item in a list, such as a POI. T ap this button to select the type of keyboard characters you want to use, the size of the keys and the keyboard layout.
Fav o r i t es 9. 17 Favori- tes About Favorites Favorites are places that you often visit. You can create Favorites so that you don’t have to enter the address every time you plan a route. They don’t have to be places you es pecially like, just useful addresses.
18 Using a Favorite You will normally use a Favorite to plan a route somewhere without having to ente r the address. To plan a route to a Favorite location, do the following: 1. Tap the screen to open the Main Menu. 2. Tap Plan route or Change ro ute .
19 Changing the name of a Favorite 1. Tap the screen to bring up the main menu. 2. Tap options to open the Opti ons menu. 3. Tap Home and Favorites . 4. Tap Manage Favorites . 5. Tap the Favorite you want to rename. 6. Tap Rename . Deleting a Favorite 1.
Points of Interest 10. 20 Points of Inte- rest Points of Interest or POIs ar e useful places on the map. Here are some examples: • Restaurants •H o t e l s •M u s e u m s • Parking garages • Gas stations Note : Tap Map corrections in the Options menu to report m issing POIs or edit existing POIs.
21 Tap the ar row to choose from t he complete list of categories. Select the category from the list or start to type the name of the cate gory and se lect it wh en it ap pears in the li st. 7. Tap Parking garage . 8. From the list of POIs shown, sele ct the POI you want to navigate to.
Voices and images 11. 22 Voices and images Voices Your navigation device is able to provide spoken instructions and warnings using voices which are stored on the device. Some voi ces have be en recorded by actors and other voi- ces are computer-generated.

TomTom Map Share™ 12. 24 TomTo m Map Share™ With TomTom Map Share, you can correct er rors on your map and share those correc- tions with other people in the TomTom Map Share community, as well as receiving cor- rections made by others.
25 Making a map correction Important : For safety reasons, you should only mark a location when you are dri ving. Do not enter the full details of an error whil e you are driving.
26 3. Tap Join . When you connect your START to your comp uter, T omTom HOME downloads new correc- tions and sends your corrections to the Map Share community. Important : Connect your device to your computer regularly and use TomTom HOME to check for new updates.
27 T o m a k e a c o r r e c t i o n t o y o u r m a p , t a p Map corrections in t he Options menu then tap Cor- rect a map error . The following types of corrections are s hown. (Un)block street T ap this button to block or unblock a st reet. Y ou can block or unblock the street in one or both directions.
28 Edit street name T ap this button to change the name of a street on your map. F or example, to rename a street near to your current location: 1. Tap Edit street name. 2. Tap Near you . 3. Select the street or sect ion of a stree t you want to cor rect by tap ping it on the map.
29 Report other error T ap this button to report other types of corrections. These corrections are not immediatel y applied to your map. Y our T omT om START sends a speci al report to T omT omMap Share. Y o u can report missing streets, errors in freeway entrances and exit s and missing rotaries.
Help 13. 30 Help Help provides an easy way to contact and plan a route to locations that provide emer- gency services, such as a hospital or to other specialized servi ces. For example, if you are involved in a car acci dent, you could use Help to call or fi nd the phone number for the nearest hosp ital and tell them your exact location.
Introducing TomTom HOME 14. 31 Intro- ducing TomTo m HOME Using TomTom HOME you can register and man a ge your navigation device to receive free updates and buy new services .
Traffic information using RDS-TMC 15. 32 Traffic infor- mation using RDS- TMC The Traffic Message Channel (TMC) Important : The TomTom RDS-TMC Traffi c Receiver is included with some products and is also av ailable as an optiona l accessory. Wh en the receiver is used wi th some navi gation devices, some featur es may not be available.
