2 In addit ion to this user ’ s guide, t his package conta ins: • T argus S towaway Port able Keyboard • T argus S towaway Soft ware Setting Up Y our Stowaway Inst alling the Stowaway Port able Keyboard Softwar e Before inst alling the software, make sure that: • Y ou disable any previou sly instal led keyboard so ftware.
3 2 Insert the S towaway software CD int o your computer ’s CD-ROM drive. 3 If Setu p does not begin aut omatically , clic k Start , then Run , and enter D:setup.e xe (where D: is the p ath of your CD-ROM drive) and then c lick OK . 4 Follow the on-sc reen instructi ons to complete install ation.
4 Removing the Stowaway Port able Keyboard Software If necessary , you can remove the S towaway software from your CLIÉ: 1 T ap the Home icon to access t he applica t ion launc her screen. 2 T ap the Men u icon, then t ap App to display the menu list .
5 1 Hold the unit and, using your thumb, push the latch down to unloc k the case. Stowaway keyboar d closed.
6 2 Unfold t he keyboard and se t it o n a firm, fl at surface. Unfolding the Stowaway ke yboard 3 Slide the red end-gri ps inward, bringing the keyboar d sections together .
7 Attaching Your CLIÉ 1 Locate th e docking mechanism, und erneath the dock ing connector , at the top of the keyboard. Locating the d ocking mechanism Docking conn ector Docking mechanism.
8 2 Slide the docking mechani sm all the way out of the keyboard until the PDA foot f lips up. NOTE: If the PD A foot does no t flip up , check that the docking mechanism is fully extended.
9 3 Line up the scroll butt on with the al ignment marker on the keyboard docking connect or and push down gently to make the connec tion. 10 Closing the Stowaw ay Portable Keyboard 1 Pull your CLIÉ upward to remove it from the docking conne ctor . 2 Fold down t he docking connector and PDA foot until flat, then slide the docking mechanism in to the keyboard.
11 3 With the keybo ard still on a flat surfa ce, slide the red end-gri ps toward the ends of t he case, separ ating the key board secti ons as far apart as possible.
12 Using Y ou r S tow away Port able Keyboard Things to Rem ember Hardware • If you ar e typing with the S towaway keyboard on a n uneven surface, such as your knees, the keyboa rd will not provide the same robust feel as typing on a flat, solid surface and may bow slightly in t he center .
13 • T ype gen tly and lightly . • Relax your should ers and keep your elbows at your sides. Adjust t he keyboard so that you don’ t have to stretch to reach it. • Adjust your posi tion so that you don’t have to bend your wrist s to type; avoid placing your wris ts on a sharp edge.
14 Adjusting General Settings Open the Keyboard applic ation, then tap Genera l on the setti ngs list. The General set tings all ow you to adj ust the following preferenc es: Keyboard applicatio n Gen.
15 Use your stylus to drag the marker arrow toward Long to increase or Short to decrease t he length of the delay . T est Repeat Settings T est the repeat rate and delay by holdi ng down a letter or number k ey on the S towaway keyboar d. The character app ears according to the sett ings you have chosen.
16 T o def ine the Cmd keys: 1 Open the Keyboard applic ation, then tap CmdKeys on the settings l ist. The Application A ssignments screen appears. Application Assignments screen 2 Choose the Cmd + number sequence you want to assign, then t ap the drop-down arrow .
17 Changing Layout Settings Open the Ke yboard applicati on, then t ap Layout on the settings l ist. The Layout setting s allow you to v i ew , change or enable/dis able the f ollowing opti ons: Layou.
18 T o change the keyboard lay out, tap on the drop-down a r row an d select a language from the list . Ta b This opti on allows y ou to set the t ab key to eit her move withi n fields or move to a tab stop. T o cha nge the tab ke y movement, tap on the drop-down ar row and make a selec tion from the li st.
19 Using Help to View Keyboard Shortcuts T o view the shortc ut Cm d keys, open the Keyboa rd application, then tap Help from the settings l ist. Press the Fn key and the up or down arrow to scroll through t he list. Keyboard shortcuts in Help For a complete list of t hese shortcuts, ref er to the next sect ion.
20 Curs or Movemen t s The followi ng table list s the keyboard shortcut s for moving the cursor and selecti ng text. NOTE: For m ore information on changing the T ab function refer to “ Changing Layout Settings ” on pa ge 17. Key Sequ ence Result Ctrl – Left arrow Moves the cursor one word to the left.
21 Activating On-screen Button Shortcut s The followi ng table li sts th e key combinat ions to activate on-s creen buttons. NOTE: Y ou can also u se on-screen bu tton shortcuts by simultaneou sly pressing Ctrl – Cmd and the first letter of th e command in the on -screen button.
22 Menu Commands The followi ng table list s the keyboard shortcut s for the editing menu commands. NOTE: The cu t, copy , and paste menu command s may vary between applications. Miscella neous Special Keystrokes The followi ng table list s additional key combinati ons available for use with the S towaway keyboard.
23 From the Pr eferences Sho r tCut s screen you can create new , edit and delete these shortc uts. T o access the Pre f erences Shor tCuts scr een: 1 T ap the Home icon, then Prefs . 2 T ap the d rop-down arrow , located in the upper-ri ght corner , and select ShortCut s .
24 3 Under ShortCut T ext, type the text you want to equat e w ith the key combinatio n you just enter ed. 4 Ta p OK to return to the Preferences Shor tCuts screen. The S towaw ay software automatically sa ves the shortcut. Changing a ShortCut 1 Highligh t the Shor tCut you want to c hange and t ap Edit .
25 NOTE: In the following tabl e, “ a ” represents the letter you want to accent. For examp l e, to type the umlaut ö in K ö ln, use the key com bination o – Fn – ; (semi-colon). NOTE: The key combination for the Nordic A-rin g only works for the letter “ a ” .

28 T roublesh ooting Frequently Asked Questions What should I do when I type on the keyboard and nothing ha ppens? • Check that your Sony CLI É is charged. • Make sure t hat your CLIÉ is properly conn ected to t he S towaway Port able Keyboard. • V erify tha t the S towaway keyboard soft ware is insta lled according to the instr uctio ns.
29 Why can’t I synchr onize my Sony CLIÉ when it is att ached to the key board? The S towaway Port able Keyboard does not replace your CLIÉ’ s cradle. T o synchroniz e, remove your CLIÉ from t he S towaway keyboard and insert it int o the cradle.
