Chapter 2: Installation 2-5 Insert th e SO DIMM module vertically at about a 45 degree angle. T o Remove: Use your thumbs t o gently push the side clips near both ends away from the module . This shou ld release it from the slot. Pull the SO DIMM modul e upwards.

Chapter 2: Installation 2-21 L VDS Connector An L VDS connec tor (J 5) is avail able on the X7SP A-L only . This connector provides 18-bit L VDS (Low V oltage Differenti al Signaling) for an LCD panel or other similar devices. Refer to the table on the right for pin denitions.
2-22 X7SP A-L/X7SP A-H/X7SP A-HF User's Manual 2-6 Jumper Settings Explanation of Jumpers T o modify the operation of the motherboard, jumpers can be used to choose between optional settings. Jumpers create shorts between two pins to change the function of th e connector.

Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-1 Chapter 4 BIOS 4-1 Introduction This chapter describes the AMI BIOS Setup Utility for the X7SP A-L/X7SP A-H/ X7SP A-HF . The AMI ROM BIOS is stored in a Flas h EEPR OM an d can be ea sily updated. This chap ter desc ribes th e basic navigatio n of the AMI BIOS Setup Utility setup screens.
4-2 X7SP A-L/X7SP A-H/X7SP A-HF How to Start the Setup Utility Normally , the only visible Power-On Self-T est (POST) routine is the memory test. As the memo ry is being test ed, press the <D elete> key to en ter the main menu of the AMI BIOS Setup Utility .
Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-3 System Overview: The following BIOS information will be displayed: System Time/Syst em Date Use this option to change the system time and date. Highlight System Time or Sys - tem Date using the arro w key s. En ter new v alues through the keyboard.
4-4 X7SP A-L/X7SP A-H/X7SP A-HF 4-3 Advanced Setup Congurations Use the arrow keys to select Boot Setup and hit <Enter> to access the submenu items: BOOT Feature Quick Boot If Enabled, this option will skip certain tests during POST to reduce the time needed for system boot.

4-6 X7SP A-L/X7SP A-H/X7SP A-HF Standby Power in S5 This feature su pplies standby power wh ile i n S5 (sl eep m ode). Set this feature to Disabled to comply with EuP req uirements, E nable this feature to activate wake-up capability while in sleep mode.
Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-7 Advanced Chipset Control The items included in the Advanced Settings submenu are listed below . Northbridge Conguration DRAM Frequency This option allows the user to select the desired frequency setting for the onboard memory modules.
4-8 X7SP A-L/X7SP A-H/X7SP A-HF Active State Power Management Select Enabled to start Active-State Power Management for signal transactions between L0 and L1 Links on the PCI Expr ess Bus. Thi s maximizes power-savin g and transaction speed. The options are Enabled and Disabled .
Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-9 SA T A#2 Conguration (Availa ble if IDE is ena bled u nder "Co ngure SA T A# 1 as" above) Selecting Enhanced will set SA T A#2 to native SA T A mode.

Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-1 1 Select UDMA4 to allo w the BIOS t o use Ultra DMA mode 4 . It has a data transfer rate of 100 MBs. The options are Auto , SWDMAn, MWDMAn, and UDMAn. S.M.A.R.T . For Hard disk drives Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting T echnology (SMART) can help predict impending drive failures.
4-12 X7SP A-L/X7SP A-H/X7SP A-HF PCI Slot 1 Use this feature to enable or disable PCI slot Option ROMs. The options are Dis - abled and Enabled. Load Onboard LAN 1 Option ROM/ Load Onboard LAN 2 Option ROM Select Enabled to load the onboar d LAN Option ROM for the LAN port as specied.
Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-13 Flow Control This feature allows the user to set the ow control for Console Redirection. The options are None , Hardware, and Software. Redirection After BIOS POST Se le c t D i sa bl ed to t ur n of f Co ns ol e R ed ir ec t io n a f te r Powe r- On S el f-T es t (PO ST).
4-14 X7SP A-L/X7SP A-H/X7SP A-HF Hardware Health Conguration This feature allows the user to monitor Hardware Health of the system and review the status of each item when displayed.
Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-15 User intervention: No act ion is required. However , consider checking t he CPU fans and the chassis ventilation for blockage.
4-16 X7SP A-L/X7SP A-H/X7SP A-HF Fan Speed Control Modes This feature allows the user to decide how the system controls the speeds of the onboard fans. The CPU temperature and the fan speed are correlative. When the CPU on-die temperature increases, the fan speed will also increase for ef fective system cooling.
Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-17 ACPI Aware O/S Enable ACPI support if it is supported by the OS to control ACPI through the Operat - ing System. Otherwise, disable this feature.
4-18 X7SP A-L/X7SP A-H/X7SP A-HF I PMI Congu ration (X 7SP A- HF On ly) Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) is a set of common interfaces that IT administrators can use to monitor system health and to manage the system as a whole.
Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-19 IP Address - Enter the IP addre ss for this machi ne. This should be in decimal and in dotted quad form (i.e., 192.168.10.253). The value of each three-digit number separated by dots should not exceed 255. Subnet Mask - Subnet masks tell the network w hich subnet this machine belongs to.
4-20 X7SP A-L/X7SP A-H/X7SP A-HF 4-4 Security Settings The AMI BIOS provides a Supervisor and a User password. If you use both pass - words, the Supervisor password must be set rst. Superv isor Pa ssword This item indicates if a supervisor password has been entered for the system.
Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-21 Change User Password Select this feature and press <Enter> to access the submenu , and then type in a new User Password. Clear User Password (Available only if User Password has been set) Password Check Available options are Setup and Always.
4-22 X7SP A-L/X7SP A-H/X7SP A-HF Boot Device Priority This f eature allow s the user to specify th e sequence of prio rity for the Boot Device. The settings are 1st boo t device, 2nd boot device, 3rd boot devi ce, 4th boot device, 5th boot device a nd Disabled.
Chapter 4: AMI BIOS 4-23 Removable Drives This feature allows the user to specify the boot sequence from available Remov able Drives. The settings ar e 1st boot device, 2 nd boot dev ice, and Dis abled.
