5 Setting up Unpacking your smartphone Y our new smartphone comes p acked in a protective box. Carefully unpack the box and remove the contents. If any of the following items is missing or damaged, co.

7 Charging the battery For initial use, you need to charge your sma rtphone for eight hours. After that you can recharge the battery as needed. Note : Y our Acer Liquid S2 does NOT have a user-replaceable battery . 1. Connect the AC adapter cord to the micro USB connector on your smartphone.
8 2. Flick towards the screen to open the slot cover . 3. Pull slot cover away from the phone to insert the card. 4. Insert the microSD Card as illustrated. When you hea r a small click, the card is se curely in the slot. Inserting the SIM card T o take full advantage of your smartphone’ s telephony capabilities, you must install a Nano-SIM card.
9 Note : The SIM card cover will only fit one way into the slot. SIM card lock Y our smartp hone may come with a SIM card lock, i.e., you will only be able to use the SIM card provide d by your network operator . T o cancel the SIM lock, cont act your network provider .
10 Using your smartphone T urning on for the first time T o turn on your smartphone for the first time, press and hold the power button until the screen turns on. Y ou will then be asked to configure some setti ngs before you can use your smartphone .
11 W aking your smartphone If the screen is off and the sm artpho ne does not react to any taps on the screen or front p anel button, then it has been locked and is in sleep mode. Press the power butt on to wa ke your smartphone. Unlock your smartphone by sliding your finger from one side of the screen to the other (it works both ways).
12 Recent T ap and hold this button to see recently open ed applications. T ap an application to open it, or tap anywhere on the screen to return to the Ho me screen. See “Multitasking” on p age 21. Using the touchscreen Y our smartp hone uses a touchscreen for selecting items and enteri ng information.
13 Swype Swype is a fast way to enter text. It allows you to type with one continuous motion across the screen ke yboard; you create a word by drawing through letters. Put your finger on the first letter of the word and draw a path from letter to letter , lifting up only after t he last letter .
14 Predictive text Both Swype and Android keyboard provid e pr edictive text input fo r the browse r . As you tap the letters of a word, a selection of words are displayed above the keyboard that continue the sequence of letter s t apped, or are a close match allowing fo r errors.

21 Multitasking Y ou can have mu ltiple applications open at the same time. T o open a new application, tap the home button to return to the Home screen, then start the new application. Tip : T o prolong battery life, it is better to close an appl ication when you’ve finished using it.
22 Managing cont act s Managing your contact s Y our smartphone features an a ddress book that allo ws you to save cont acts to either the internal memory or onto your SIM card. Open the People a pplication from the Application menu or tap from the Dialer to view your contacts.
23 T apping on the contacts name w ill bring up their profile. T ap while viewing a contact’s profile to edit, share, delete, or print the contact. Y ou may also set a ri ngtone for the contact, or associ ate the contact with a SIM card.
24 Making calls This chapter shows you how to ma ke phone calls, and the various options avail able to you during your call. Before making a call Check that the phone function is on befo re you make a call. Y ou can con firm the phone status from the Notification area.

29 Calling a phone number using Internet calling If you have configured your phone to place all calls usin g Internet calling or to ask for each call, you may also call a phone number using Internet call, wheneve r you are connected to a wireless network.
30 Messaging This chapter shows you how to set up and use the Phone messages , Social messages and Social events functions of your smartphone. All SMS and MMS messages are accessed via Mes saging . Messaging automatically arranges received and sent messages into threads.
31 Replying to a message When a new text message arrives a message icon appears in the Notification ar ea and the message icon at the bottom of the phone displays the number o f unread text messages. 42 Using the Camera Y our smartphone features two digital ca meras mounted on the front and on the rear . This section will take you through all the st eps in taking photos and videos with your smartphone. 46 Supported formats Vi ewing photos and videos After you have taken your photo or video, it is automatically saved. Once you have taken a photo or video, you can view it in Gallery b y tapping the thumbnail next to the shutter button. Al ternatively , open the Appl ications menu and tap Gallery .
47 Advanced settings Putting your smartphone in Airplane mode Y ou can enter Airplane mode (also known as fligh t mode) to turn off telephone and Bluetooth functions and use your smartphone as a handheld device during a flight. Ch eck with yo ur airline to make sure this is permitted onboa rd.
48 Important : If your phone is in Airplane mode, th e option to turn Bluetoo th on will be disabled. Please refer to "Putting your smartphone in Airp lane mode" on pa g e 4 7 for instructi ons on turning Airplane mode on or off.

52 Connecting to a PC If you wish to tran sfer information between you r phone and your computer (eit her th e microSD Card in your phone or the phone’s internal memory), you can connect your phone to a PC using the supplied USB cable. 1. 53 FM radio T he FM radio allows you to listen to your favorite stations while on the move. Hea dphones must be inserted to the 3.5 mm jack as it functions as an antenna. Y ou can access the radio by tapping FM Radio from the Application menu. T ap the Po wer button to turn the radio off (tapping the B ack button does not turn the radio off).
54 Closing an application T o close an active application, in the Application menu tap Settings > App s . Swipe over to the Running tab, then t ap the program you wish to close. Select Stop to close the program. Uninstalling an application Y ou can remove programs installed on your smartphone to free up extra storage memory .
55 Accessories and tip s This chapter shows you how to use accessories with your smartphone, as well as provide useful ti ps for when you are using you r smartphone. Using the headset Y our smartp hone is compatible with hea dsets with built-in microphone for handsfree use when making calls.
