7 The Handset THE HANDSET Modes of Operation Y our handset has four modes of operation: Menu Navigation The navigation keys (Nav keys ) just below the softkeys are used to navigate through menu options. Thes e are referred to in this guide as Nav S , Nav T , Nav W , Nav X , and NavOK .
8 The Handset Handse t Display s The top row of the display provides status indicators for v arious handset conditions . It is refe r red to as the status bar . The midd le lines display infor m at ion about the handset identity , user profile, calls in progress , menu options, and data from tele- phone system.
9 The Handset Shor tcut Keys When a me nu is displayed, a shor tcut key may be displayed on the right edge of the menu line . Press the corresponding number on the keypad to acti vate the corresponding menu option.
10 The Handset Status Bar Indicators Indicator Functi on The signal-strength icon indicates the strength of the signal and can assist the user in determining if the handset is moving out of range. If voicem ail is available the v oicemail icon will appear when a new voicemail message is recei ved.
11 The Handset Locked Locked indicates that the keypad is locked to prev ent accidental activation. Press the Unlk softkey an d then the # key to unlock it. The download icon indicates that the handset is downloading code . This icon only appears while the handset is running the ov er-the-air downloader .
12 The Handset Sof tkey Labels The bottom row of the handset displays labels associated with the four softkeys just below it. W hen a softkey is activ e, a label appears to describe its function. Pressing the softkey will activate the feature. Label Description Action Back Go back Returns to the previous menu display .

14 Getting Sta r ted GETTING ST AR TED Y our Link 6020 Wireless T elephone is designed for full mobility within the workplace and operates much lik e a cell phone. It also interfaces with the tele phone system at your workplace and incor- porates advanced telephony features .
15 Getting Star ted Unlock the keyp ad Press the Unlk softkey , then # , to unlock the keypad. Lock the keypad Press the Cfg softkey , then NavOK . See Phone Settings in the Conf ig Menu for Keypad Autoloc k settings. Make an in ternal call Press the ST ART key , wait for a dial tone, then dial the extension.
16 Getting Sta r ted Answer a ca ll on a second line If you are on a call and hear subdued ringing, a call is co ming in on a second line. The li ne number on the disp lay may be flashing. T o answer this call, put your first call on hold and press the LINE key , then the line number of the second call.
17 Getting Star ted Change the prof ile Press the Prof softkey and use the Nav keys to select a new profile while in standby mode. The selected profile is marked with an asterisk (*). Display additional featur es During a call press the FCN key to dis play the options progra mmed to additional features av ailable in your facility .
18 Advanced Features ADV ANCED FEA TURES F acility -Specific Features Press the FCN key while off-hook or in a call to display the the menu options programmed for adva nced telephony fe atures such as transfer , conference, and v oicemail. Contact your system administra tor for more infor mation abou t custom features available in your faci lity .
19 Advanced Features Data Entry and Editing Enter numbers by pressing the buttons on the keypad. The blink- ing underscore identifie s the curr ent cursor position. When enter- ing alphanumeric strings , the CAPS/caps softkey will appear and may be pressed to toggle the case.
20 Advanced Features The Config Menu When the handset is in standby mode, press the Cfg softkey to enter the Config Menu . The handset cannot ma ke or receive calls while in the Config Menu . This menu allows you to set u ser prefer- ences . R efer to the di agrams on pages 24-25.
21 Advanced Features Profiles Y our handset ring beha vior is established by fi ve User Profil es: Silent , Vibrate , Loud , Soft , and Custom . The cur rently-acti ve user profile is shown on the standb y di splay .
22 Advanced Features Changing Ring Settin gs T o ch ang e the ring tone or any othe r ring setting for any profile, go to User Profiles and sele ct the profile. Select Ri ng Settings and then select Tel e p h o n e for standard phone calls or one of the Message Alerts for text messag es.

26 Accessories CHARGERS, BA TTERY P ACKS AND ACCESSORIES Accessories for the Link 6020 Wireless T elephone include three different charger mode ls, three different Battery Pack models, headsets and severa l carr ying options . Battery Packs The Batter y Pac ks must be recharged periodically .
27 Accessories The Battery Pac k can be changed while t he call is still in prog ress . Do not press END . Quickly remove the discharged Batter y Pack and replace with a charged Batter y Pack , press END to tur n the handset back on and t hen pres s ST ART to resume the call.
28 Accessories Charging St atus The handset display and the LED on the Dual and Quad Charge rs indicate whether or not charging is occurr ing or completed or if a Battery Pack failure has been detected.* Handset/LED C harging Statu s Charging… LED Solid On The Batter y Pac k in the handset is char gin g.
29 Accessories Single Ch arger The Si ngle Charg er is de signed to allow the handset to rem ain operational through speakerphone or headset use while the hand- set's Battery Pack is being c harg ed. The handset may also be charged while it is in standb y mode or turned off.
30 Accessories Dual Charger The Dual Charger is de signed to charge the Bat ter y Pac k in the handset while it remains operationa l and also charge an additional Battery Pack in the rear chargi ng bay . The handset has charging pri- ority when both slots are occupied.
31 Accessories Quad Char ger The Quad Charg er is designed to simultaneo usly charge four Bat- ter y P acks. It ma y be mounted on a horizontal or vertical surface. The Batter y Pac k snaps into the charging slot . T he LED abov e the occupied bay indicates the charging status of the Battery Pa ck in the bay .
32 Accessories Carrying Options The following options are av ailabl e for handset protection and easy handset carr ying and removal. Belt clip: Spring-loaded plastic belt clip that attaches to the back of the handset.
33 Administration HANDSET ADMINISTRA TION FAQ s How does the handset power of f and power on? The END key is the power on/pow er off key . Press and hold it to turn the handset on. Turn the handset off from the standby mode by pressing and holding the END key .
34 Administr ation How do I charge the Batter y Pack? The Batter y Pac k in the handset may be charged in a Single or Dual Charger without being removed from the handset by simply plac- ing the handset into the charger . A spare Batter y Pack may be charged in the rear bay of the Du al Charg er or in a Quad Charg er .
35 Administration How should I cl ean the handset? Wiping the handset surface with a water -dampened cloth or paper tow el will remove most film s or residues. If the soiling is too stub- born for plain water, a mild detergent solution may be used. A spra y cleaner may be used with ca re.
36 Safety SAFETY INFORMA TION Chargers and Battery Packs It is nor mal for the Batter y Pack to become warm when charging. Chargers operate in a 50° to 85° F (1 0° to 30° C) environment. Do not expose them to freez ing temperatures or direct sunl ight.
