10 Hooking Up the Components AUX AUDIO IN hookup • If you have an individual audio component (except PHONO) Use the audio cords to connect the LINE OUT jacks on the CD player , tape deck, or MD deck to the AUX AUDIO IN jack on the receiver so that you can listen to stereo sour ces in surround sound.

13 Hooking Up and Setting Up the Speaker System T o avoid short-cir cuiting the speakers Short-circuiting of the speakers may damage the r eceiver . T o prevent this, make sure to take the following precautions when connecting the speakers.
14 Hooking Up and Setting Up the Speaker System Performing Initial Setup Operations Once you have hooked up the speakers and turned on the power , clear the receiver ’s memory . Then specify the speaker parameters (size, position, etc.) and perform any other initial setup operations necessary for your system.

YES”. • If you do not connect a sub woofer , select “S.W . NO”. This activates the bass redir ection cir cuitry and outputs the LFE signals from other speakers.

Y ou can enjoy multi channel surround when playing back softwar e encoded with Dolby Digital or DTS. 31 Enjoying Surround Sound Source sound displays The letters (L, C, R, etc.) indicate the source sound. The box ar ound the letters varies to show how the r eceiver downmixes the source sound (based on the speakers settings). When using music sound modes such as SMALL HALL or JAZZ CLUB, the receiver adds r everberation based on the source sound.
32 Enjoying Surround Sound Customizing Sound Fields By adjusting the surround parameters and the tone characteristics of the front speakers, you can customize the sound fields to suit your particular listening situation.
33 Enjoying Surround Sound Adjusting the level parameters The LEVEL menu contains parameters that let you adjust the balance and speaker volumes of each speaker . 43 Other Operations The SET UP button allows you to make the following adjustments. Selecting the MUL TI CH IN video input This parameter lets you specify the video input to be used with the audio signals from the MUL TI CH IN jack. The MUL TI CH IN video input is set to DVD/LD by default.
