8 What is a Vide o Cass ette Recorde r/DVD Reco rder? This is a DVD recorder with built- in VHS video deck, and all ows recordin g/playback o f DVD discs a nd VHS tapes. DVD editing i s also poss ible. Recording and timer re cording Record TV programmes on a DVD or VHS tap e, either ma nually or u sing the timer.
9 Creating your own pr ogramme - Playlist Recor d a prog ramme o n a DVD-RW (VR m ode) or DVD-R (VR mode), t hen erase, move, or add scenes as you like without chang ing the o riginal conten ts.
10 How to Use th e On-S creen Menus The followi ng three di splays are mainly used to operate th is record er. Onc e you become f amiliar with th e basic op eration s, you will find the reco rder eas y to use.

16 If your TV has co m ponent video input jacks Connect to the COMPONENT VIDEO O UT jacks usin g a component video cord (not supplie d) or three video cor ds (not supplied ) of t he same kin d and length. You will enjoy acc urate colo ur repro duction a nd high quality images.

18 A Connec ting to audio L/R jac ks Thi s conn ection use s a s tereo amplifi er’s (recei ver’s ) two fron t speak ers for s ound. You can enjoy th e surrou nd functi on that cre ates virt ual sp eakers from t wo stere o speakers. Select fro m “Su rround 1,” “Sur round2 ,” or “S urround3” of the su rround effect s (page 3 6).
19 Hookups and Settings Step 5 : Conn ectin g the Mains Le ad Plug th e record er and TV mains leads in to the main s. After yo u connect the main s lead, you must wait for a short wh ile before oper ating th e recor der . You ca n operat e the recorder o n ly afte r the front panel displa y lights u p and the recorde r enters standb y mode.
20 Controlling TVs w ith the remote You can ad just the r emote contro l’s signal to contro l your TV. If you co nnected the reco rder to an AV amp lifier (recei ver), yo u can al so use t he sup plied rem ote to control the AV amplif ier’s (recei ver’s) volume.
21 Hookups and Settings Controlling the v olume of your AV amplifier (rece iver) with the remote 1 Slide th e TV/ DVD·VIDEO switch to DV D·VI DEO. 2 Hold down "/ 1 , and en ter the manufac turer code ( see th e table below) for yo ur AV ampl ifier (re ceiver ) using the number buttons .
22 Step 7 : Easy Setup Follow the s teps bel ow to make the min imum numbe r of basic ad justm ents for using th e recorder. If you do no t complete Eas y Setup, it will appe ar each t ime yo u turn on y our record er. Settings a re made in the follo wing order.
23 Hookups and Settings If the current da te and time is n ot set, set the cloc k manua lly. Press M / m t o se t the day an d press , . S et the mont h, year, hour , minutes i n the same w ay. Set “Auto Adj ust” to “On” to activate the Auto Cl ock Set func tion.

27 Hookups and Settings Connecting to the LI NE 3/DECOD ER jack Connect another VCR or similar recording device to the LINE 3 /DECODER jack usin g a SCART cord (not su pplied ). When y ou turn o n th e co nnect ed eq uipment , the recorde r au tomat ica lly s ends the signal fr om the equipment t o the TV without turning itself o n.

DVD Re cordi ng 49 NICAM sys tem When a s tereo or biling ual NICA M based programme is received, “STEREO” and “NICA M” ap pear in the f ront pan el displa y. To record a NICAM programme, be sure to set “Man ual S et” – “Tu ner Audi o” to “NIC AM” (defau lt) in the “Tuner Pres et” set up (page 1 00).

DVD Re cordi ng 51 Recording using th e Quick Timer (One-touch Timer Recordi ng) You can set the recorder to record i n 30-mi nute incr ements. 1 Press DVD to opera te the DVD reco rder. 2 Press z REC re peated ly to set the duratio n. Each press i ncreases the time by 30 minutes, up to ei ght hours* .
52 DVD Time r Record ing (Stan dard/ VIDEO Plus +) You can set the timer fo r a total of 12 progra mme s together wi th DVD and VCR timer re cording, up to one mon th in adva nce. Note that the maximu m continuous reco rding time for a s ingle title is 12 hours.
DVD Re cordi ng 53 F “Mode”: S elects the recordi ng mode (page 48). To use th e Rec Mod e Adjust fun ction (page 53), select “AUTO.” G “PDC”: Sets the PDC fu nction. See “About the PDC function” (p age 53). • If y ou make a mistake, se lect the item and change the s etting.

66 Creat ing a Play list Playlist titles allow you t o edit without ch anging the orig inal re cordings ( see “Edit options for DVD-RWs (VR mode)/DVD-Rs (VR mo de)” on page 60) . You can cr eate a Play list title by combining up to 99 se ctions (sc enes) from origi n al titles.

DVD Ed itin g 71 Copying a scene ( Copy) You ca n copy and a dd a selecte d scene. 1 Follow s teps 1 to 7 of “Editing a P layli st” (page 67). The “E dit Scene” displa y appears. 2 Selec t the sce ne you want to copy, and pres s ENTE R. 3 Selec t “Copy ,” and pre ss ENTER.
72 C “Disc Format” (DVD+RWs/DVD- RWs/DVD-Rs only): Erases all conten ts of the di sc, inc luding pr otect ed titles, a nd makes a bl a nk disc (excep t DVD-Rs). For DVD-RWs, select a recording format (“VR Mode” or “Vide o Mode”) accordi ng to your needs.

74 Adjusting the pi cture (tracking) You can manually adjust tra cking if the recordin g quality is too poor to be remedied by the VCR’s automatic tracking (a tracking meter ap pears during the automatic tracking). Press TRACKING +/–. The trac king meter appears.
